Scorpions Glow Under UV Lights
Transcript
00:00If you place your baby octopus under a UV black light, nothing happens.
00:07But if you place your scorpion under a UV black light, something very unusual happens.
00:16Ultraviolet light hits the scorpion's exoskeleton, is absorbed, and then released back into the world
00:25at a different wavelength that we can see.
00:30It's kind of like how squirrel skulls, compared to other animals, glow pink under a UV black light.
00:39But there's one big difference.
00:43Notice how the light released by the scorpion has an even longer wavelength than the light released by the squirrel.
00:51That means, instead of glowing pink, like a squirrel skull, it will glow a different color.
01:01Green.
01:03Again, for reference, here's what an octopus looks like, and here's what a scorpion looks like.
01:12It's green.
01:13Green.
