02:01Since creating the looter-shooter genre nearly 16 years ago, we've continued to refine the formula, delivering better loot, greater freedom, and endless mayhem.
02:13And with Borderlands 4, we've pushed things even further.
02:16This is hands down our best Borderlands ever.
02:19All new movement, abilities, bigger and badder enemies, and a brand new planet.
02:24All in service of making you feel like a total badass.
02:26It's the perfect entry point for new players, with incredible new places and a great story.
02:31And for our long-time Borderlands fans, we're throwing back to our more grounded tone, while pushing gameplay ahead further than ever before.
02:39This is the culmination of years of hard work from my teammates across the Gearbox Studios.
02:47So enough talk, let's get it.
02:49This is Borderlands 4.
02:51Borderlands 4 is an unforgiving sci-fi universe where life is cheap and guns are plentiful.
03:14You play as a Vault Hunter, a badass mercenary with powerful abilities called Action Skills.
03:22Today I'm playing as Vex, our new Siren.
03:25She wields supernatural phase energy to devastating effect.
03:30She can use that energy to empower herself,
03:33or channel it to conjure deadly minions that fight alongside her.
03:38And because everything's better in co-op, I'm joining as Rafa,
03:42a former TDR soldier who wears an experimental exosuit.
03:47He can deconstruct an arsenal of weapons, like the razor-sharp arc knives.
03:52These are two of our four new Vault Hunters that you can play at launch.
03:57Borderlands 4 takes place on Kairos, an all-new planet steeped in conflict.
04:03For thousands of years, the Timekeeper kept the planet hidden,
04:07controlling its inhabitants with bolts, cybernetic implants fused to their spies.
04:12Anyone who stepped out of line was brutally crushed by his army of synthetic soldiers known as the Order.
04:21That is until six years ago when Albus showed up.
04:24This rogue moon was teleported away from Pandora at the end of Borderlands 3
04:28by the legendary Vault Hunter, Lilith.
04:30When it reappeared across the galaxy, it crashed into the protective veil around Kairos.
04:37The results were devastating.
04:39A planet-wide cataclysmic event that disrupted the Timekeeper's perfect order.
04:44Now people all across Kairos have started rising up, some even ripping out their bolts.
04:51And chunks of their brain along with it.
04:54Hear it talk!
04:55That's the situation our Vault Hunters have crash-landed into.
05:00A planet ready to explode, and you're the spark.
05:06As you explore, you'll meet a cast of incredible characters.
05:11Fan favorites return, like Zane and Moxie.
05:14You'll also meet new friends, like Rush.
05:20And as always, Claptrap is along for the ride.
05:24Blumber!
05:27Last but not least is Echo 4.
05:29This helpful drone follows you everywhere.
05:33Hacking order tech, scanning the environment, and helping guide you to objectives.
05:39But enough of all that.
05:40Let's get into the game.
05:41Thanks to our improved Lobby system, it's easier than ever to join up with your friends on the fly.
05:52And with full crossplay at launch, you can play with your friends on any platform.
05:58Today, we're venturing into Terminus Range, a frigid, mountainous region.
06:03This is just one of the four zones on Kairos that you can seamlessly explore.
06:07There's next to no loading time, just endless looting and shooting mayhem.
06:13For our current mission, we need to break into a secret black site located deep in the mountains.
06:19One of the Time Keepers Generals, Vile Lictor, has been conducting grotesque experiments on locals.
06:26It's up to us to stop him.
06:27All right, let's get moving.
06:33Here, I'm using Glide, one of our new movement abilities.
06:37Along with Dash, Double Jump, Climbing, and Point Grapple, these make getting around more fun and add a ton of utility to combat.
06:44As you traverse, you'll uncover a vast and beautiful world.
06:52And to bring Kairos to life, we've introduced dynamic weather and events, so you constantly have new things to discover.
07:00There's also plenty of local wildlife to contend with, like these Kratch, flying bees who attack the flocks.
07:05Here we've come across a silo, one of several new activities in Borderlands 4.
07:18You'll naturally discover short gameplay experiences like this all across Kairos.
07:23There's no need to pick up a mission first.
07:25These are auto-granted and tracked on your hut.
07:28Silos house old, decommissioned order tech that you can hijack for the Crimson Resistance.
07:33With the help of Echo 4, we'll hack into their network and release the communications balloon.
07:55Now that we're in charge, we can fast travel to the silo.
07:58And as a bonus, it's revealed the approximate location of a Vault Key Fragment.
08:03We can collect these Fragments to unlock a hidden Vault, a high-level dungeon with challenging combat and serious loot.
08:14Let's get after it.
08:15Another nice thing about silos is you can zipline up and take off.
08:31And if that's not fast enough for you, you can always pull out your personal vehicle, the DigiRunner.
08:46Just hop on, hit boost, and get rolling.
08:49You can customize the body, paint job, and even how it handles.
08:52And because this is Borderlands, you best believe it has guns.
09:01As you traverse, you'll encounter a host of dynamic events.
09:05From order patrols to world bosses, there's always something to shoot and loot.
09:09All right, we're coming up on an order outpost.
09:23Let's see the new movement abilities in action.
09:25Chaining our new traversal abilities together makes combat more dynamic than ever.
09:44You can dash in and out of melee attacks, dodge projectiles, or quickly reposition to gain an advantage.
09:50Let's go, let's go, let's go.
10:20Ah, now I know that there's a vault fragment around here somewhere, but we've got a mission to get back to.
10:32Let's pull out Echo 4 to show us where to go.
10:39We're meeting up with none other than the Tigra Partali herself, Amara.
10:44She's a former vault hunter and exotic pet sitter from Borderlands 3.
10:47She came to Kairos in search of Lilith, and is now helping us take down the timekeeper.
10:58Don't you whine at me, Hermes. We'll play in a moment, huh?
11:02Oh, you agree to pet sit for a few weeks, and the next thing you know you're having full conversations with animals.
11:10You don't use security like that unless you've got something to hide.
11:14This must be the path to the Blacksite.
11:17Agreed. But if Lilith is on the other side, I don't mind some property destruction.
11:22Ooh, your specialty. Please, be my guest.
11:25Come. Let's throw some light on this Blacksite of his.
11:39This place is crawling with creeps.
11:42Clear them up.
11:44Co-op has always been at the heart of Borderlands, and we've put a ton of work into making it better than ever.
11:49Our improved lobby was just the start.
11:52You can also set your own campaign difficulty independently of the rest of the party.
11:56This way, everyone can tune the experience to their liking.
12:00And you don't have to worry about looting and just stealing your drops,
12:03as loot is always instanced for each player.
12:05Plus, if you ever get split up, you can easily fast travel to your friends.
12:09And two-player split screen returns so you can enjoy couch co-op.
12:13Regardless of how you play, we just want you to be able to hang with your buddies and have a great time.
12:18What the hell is that?
12:42Uh, everyone else heard the talking creep, right?
12:46Tim feels like the product of Lictor's twisted mind.
12:50Another of his experiments.
12:53If he's doing this to creeps, I shudder to think what he's doing to Lilith.
12:57We need to get inside.
13:00That air vent. Let's check it out.
13:10Hermes is really creeped out in here.
13:13Now that we're in the black side, let's take a moment to talk about Lue.
13:23In Borderlands 4, each piece of gear comes from one of eight manufacturers
13:27with their own characteristics and trademarks.
13:31There's Jacobs, with crit-friendly black powder weapons.
13:34The Elemental Expertise of Maliwan.
13:38Ladov, who solve lower accuracy with more bullets.
13:42The Toss to Reload Titor.
13:46Or Torg with explosions!
13:49We also have three new ones.
13:51The Order, with powerful charge and release blast.
13:55Fully Auto Rippers.
13:56And the reliable, easy-to-use Daedalus, which can use multiple ammo types.
14:02But that's just the start.
14:04We've introduced an all-new licensed parts system.
14:07This allows for behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers to spawn in a single weapon.
14:11For instance, this flat-off assault rifle features a Torg Mag, Hyperion Shield, and a Maliwan Elemental Switch.
14:19Meaning it shoots fast and explodes things.
14:22The higher the rarity, the more parts that can randomly spawn, creating wilder and wilder loot.
14:28And that's before even getting into alt-fire modes, under-barrels, and elemental damage.
14:35The possibilities are truly endless.
14:37To support playing with your favorite manufacturer, we've added enhancements.
14:44This new type of gear replaces artifacts and provides bonuses to specific manufacturers.
14:51Take my current enhancement.
14:53It adds a kill bonus to all guns with Daedalus parts, along with more reload speed and critical damage.
14:59This lets you min-max your build around your favorite manufacturer, immediately turning just-okay guns into amazing weapons.
15:10Finally, we've heard your feedback, and we've overhauled our drop rates and loot across the game.
15:15We've worked hard to make sure all our gear feels better than ever, while also making rarity matter again.
15:20This makes for our most satisfying loot chase ever.
15:22And at the top of everything are legendaries.
15:25These have always had unique effects that you won't find on any other piece of gear.
15:30But in Borderlands 3, they drop too often.
15:33This not only devalued legendaries, it made everything feel less valuable.
15:37In our new system, not only do all guns feel great, but now legendaries will truly be special events.
15:43We've added the magic back to our loot chase, and we know you'll love grinding all that great gear on Kairos.
15:50But let's get back to combat, so I can show you my favorite thing, Ordnance.
15:55This is the new gear slot for grenades and heavy weapons, like rocket launchers.
16:04Instead of taking up a gun slot and ammo, Ordnance now has cooldown timers.
16:09No more saving the big guns for boss fights.
16:12Now you can blow stuff up as often as you want.
16:25Before we go further, let's talk a little bit about action skills.
16:30Every Vault Hunter has a set of three unique action skills.
16:33These are class-defining abilities with devastating effects.
16:36Up until now, I'd been using Incarnate to deliver powerful Phase Blasts.
16:41But let's switch it up to Phase Familiar and pull out Trouble.
16:45As you can see, each action skill has its own branching skill tree, giving you more build freedom than ever before.
16:51On top of passive skills, you can further customize action skills with augments and capstones.
16:56These are socketed enhancements that add new behaviors and functions to your action skill.
17:00Different builds completely change how combat plays out, resulting in near-endless freedom to experiment.
17:08You can swap unlock augments or capstones on the fly, or completely respec your skill trees at hubs around Kairos.
17:14This gives us a chance to talk about traits.
17:17Each Vault Hunter has a unique passive ability called a trait.
17:20For Vex, her action skill is attuned to the element of her equipped weapon.
17:25So by swapping guns, I can change Trouble's damage from kinetic to shock, fire, or any other elemental type.
17:32And also, you can pet the cat.
17:36Dead end.
17:37Or is it?
17:39Let's see where this vent takes us.
17:43Gods.
17:45Are those... test tubes?
17:47You can fast.
18:03You can not be able to go.
18:09I can't get you.
18:10I can't get you.
18:13Let's see where it is.
18:14You can't have a bit of magic wand.
18:15I'm down, but thankfully our fight for your life mechanic makes a return.
18:38Of course, I could have avoided it in the first place if I had just used my ref kit.
18:42This new piece of gear provides health and other buffs, like temporarily boosting my elemental
18:47damage, rate of fire, or movement speed.
18:54I'm almost afraid to ask what's in the tube.
18:57Ugh, look at these guys.
19:00Are those crystals growing out of them?
19:05By the way, if you're looking to experience the story again or just grind for loot, we've
19:10added full mission and boss replay.
19:13That's right.
19:13No more save loading to run bosses.
19:16Now you can return to the arena and use Moxie's big encore machine to spawn another run.
19:22But we'll talk more about Endgame later.
19:24For now, let's jump ahead and show you something truly badass.
19:31In Borderlands 4, our bosses are bigger and better than ever, putting all your new skills,
19:36gear, and abilities to the ultimate task.
19:52Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, spoilers.
19:56That's enough of that for now.
19:58But we look forward to showing you much more this June at our first hands-on gameplay event.
20:03and from everyone at Gearbox, thank you for joining us.
20:11WOOOOO!
