London could see the hottest day of the year: Met Office Weather 20
Transcript
00:00Now into Friday, high pressure builds from the west this time, but notice the air mass is cooler across the northern half of the UK.
00:08We hang on to some higher temperatures further south and into the weekend.
00:12Yes, fairly settled weather, but there will always be the chance of some showers, particularly on Saturday.
00:18More about that in a moment. For the time being, if you're stepping out across England and Wales after a muggy night,
00:22it's a very warm start to the day with strong sunshine.
00:25Here's that weather front delivering clouds and some showery bursts for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:30Towards the north, though, there is a back edge to it.
00:33So fresher air here, brighter skies, a few showers and a bit of a keen breeze coming in from the west.
00:39So we watch as this weather front very slowly moves down towards southern counties of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
00:46One or two moderate bursts can't be rolled out through the morning.
00:49However, this weather front will weaken as we head through the morning into the afternoon.
00:53So a drier scenario, the cloud will break at times and you'll see some fine conditions, although it will feel cooler.
01:00Then yesterday, notice a few showers developing across England and Wales.
01:04Now, there's a risk. These could turn thundery through the day with the risk also of some lightning associated with them.
01:11Here are your temperatures then through the afternoon.
01:14For Scotland, 14 or 15 Celsius, but 18 still for the central belt.
01:18Northern Ireland, 15 or 16, 23 for Cumbria as well as Northumberland.
01:23Further south, those temperatures much higher.
01:25So we're talking really 28 for the Midlands.
01:27East Wales down towards the southeast are 29 degrees Celsius.
01:31And it's worth noting that UV levels will be moderate to high and there'll be some very high levels of tree pollen out there as well.
01:39So that's the picture this afternoon regards temperatures.
01:42And they've pretty much been the talk of the town over the last few days.
01:46The temperatures will wane through the next few days into the weekend.
01:49And that weather front doing the same thing, really a little bit of cloud as we head through this evening and overnight.
01:55We hang on to some higher temperatures and some muggy air towards the south, but much fresher across northern England as well as Northern Ireland.
02:02And that wind picks up some strength across the north as well as the west of Scotland into Friday, again with a scattering of showers.
02:07Despite clouds across Scotland and Northern Ireland, it should break at times, allowing for some brighter weather.
02:14Further south, you can see we're still hanging on to some warmth here.
02:17So 21 for the Midlands, 26 for the southeast of England, 22 for southern parts of Wales.
02:23But for Scotland, 13 or 14 degrees Celsius, 14 or 15 for Northern Ireland.
02:28But notice some breaks allowing for some brighter skies, but still a few showers filtering in across the far north and northwest with that brisk breeze.
02:36Brighter skies to end the day further south.
02:40Now on Saturday, chance of some showers across more southern areas.
02:44That wind then turns towards a northerly across more northern parts, again delivering some showers, particularly towards the east.
02:50A cold wind here, but there will be some sunshine in between.
02:53So some fine conditions coming through.
02:56And temperature 16, 17 across the central belt of Scotland, 19 to 22 wherever you are further south.
03:01Now for more details of the 10 day trend, check out our YouTube channel and it's Alex Deacon today.
03:09Watch out for that heat today across more southern areas.
03:12Enjoy some sunshine.
03:14And yes, it is cooling down from the northwest.
03:16I'll see you later.
