00:00I remember when I started doing this many years ago that if you asked a person who lived in the
00:18city or who lived in the suburb, where do you see people who are homeless? They would tell
00:23me, I see them on the edge of the freeway, that now the same people who tell you they
00:27only saw them near freeways are telling you they're a block away from my house.
00:34So in the last two years, this problem has gotten a lot worse.
00:38There are families who are doubled up with friends and relatives.
00:41They live in their cars for a period of time.
00:44When I see a young teen in the street, it's like, wow, I know something happened to them.
00:49That's why they're out here.
00:51I felt like I had to do something.
00:52There are so many people sleeping in tents and shanties and cars.
00:58I mean, the number of people who are living in those makeshift arrangements just in the
01:03last three or four years has tripled and quadrupled.
01:06You don't know how many times in the span of my day, people have come up to me and say,
01:11can I have your card?
01:12And I'll say, are you homeless?
01:14And they say, not yet, but in about three months, I will.
01:17One night, I was coming from a party.
01:25I made a wrong turn.
01:29I was in shock.
01:31How could this city that has so much wealth have an area that's hidden that has so many
01:37homeless people?
01:39I felt like I had to do something.
01:40What we do is we identify individuals who are the most vulnerable living on the streets
01:47and we get them off the streets and into housing.
01:50So once we house them, we become their advocates.
01:52We become a part of their life.
01:53It's clear to voters.
