During remarks on the House floor, Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI) demanded funding be restored for emergency food aid.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Speaker, I rise for the second time to call for funding for global emergency food aid to be
00:10restored. Plumpy Nut is a nutrient-dense paste used to save the lives of millions of children
00:17around the world. On every box manufactured at the Adesia factory in North Kingstown, Rhode Island
00:23has printed the words, quote, from the American people. And it's not just a slogan. This product
00:30is made with peanuts from Georgia, milk from Wisconsin, soy from Iowa, ingredients from a
00:37total of 27 states. It's 100% manufactured in the United States, and then it travels on American
00:44trucks to American ships to children around the world who are caught in the middle of humanitarian
00:51crises. Plumpy Nut is a life-saving necessity for millions of children around the world
00:58struggling with malnutrition, and it is from the American people. At Adesia, the organization
01:05in my district that manufactures Plumpy Nut, more than 25 million children have been treated
01:11by their product. That is American patriotism that we can all take pride in. But this work
01:18is at risk. The Trump administration has halted all new orders, stranding shipments and slowing
01:24production. That hurts farmers, it hurts American workers, and it hurts children most of all.
01:31This funding must be restored. And to be clear, Secretary Rubio, Elon Musk, and others in the
01:37administration have said that they intend to restore this funding. We need them to do it.
01:42We're not asking the administration to change their policy. We're asking them to execute
01:46on their stated policy, to save lives while also supporting American farmers and workers.
01:53This food is from the American people. It is a promise, and we urge the administration
01:58to ensure that this promise is kept. I yield back.
02:01The gentleman yields. The chair now recognizes the gentleman from Arizona, Mr. Siscomani, for
02:05voting.
