00:20In Oriental Mindoro, persons deprived of liberty or PDLs from Nahan District Jail made waves at the Saranggulahan-Sanauhan Kite Festival after winning Best Design in the Synchronized Kite Category, besting 16 other competitors.
00:36The festival was held on Easter Sunday, April 20, at the Town Sports Complex.
00:42According to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Memaropa, the event was part of their community-based rehabilitation program
00:48aimed at promoting social reintegration through creativity and community participation.
00:54PDLs showcased their craftsmanship by making handcrafted kites which were flown by BJMP personnel alongside other participants.
01:03Among the standout entries was a kite designed to resemble a BJMP transport vehicle, clinching the top prize for Best Design.
01:10BJMP Memaropa Regional Information Officer Geoffrey Anglo said the festival reflects the agency's commitment to holistic rehabilitation
01:18by integrating arts, culture, and community engagement into its programs.
01:23Meanwhile, Nahan Municipal Tourism Officer Disoy Giliado lauded the PDL's participation saying it promotes a social inclusion and builds a more compassionate community.
