00:00We gotta shut it down, shut it down, shut it down.
00:03It's your parents' worst fear come to life.
00:05TikTok is influencing users to join cults.
00:07And the most recent one seems to have been headed by this known charismatic leader.
00:11Hiccup, this guy, from How to Train Your Dragon.
00:13TikTok has already had a few big cults.
00:15And your parents can rest easy because that just means a bunch of TikTokers
00:18change their profile pictures to the same image, or at least the same person or character.
00:22The idea emerged in 2020, and we've seen waves of them throughout the last few years,
00:26ranging in scale.
00:27We had Ice Spice Cult and A-Train Cult, Hamster Cult, Vegeta Cult, and many others.
00:32So how did Hiccup become the face of the latest one?
00:35It all comes back to TikToker and Stinky Sock, now called Queen of the Hiccuplings,
00:39who posted a video on April 18th where she's really enthusiastic about the idea of
00:43changing her profile picture to Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon.
00:46She's giggling while explaining how hilarious it is when she leaves comments like this.
00:49So I just changed my profile picture from Rough Nut to Hiccup.
00:54The video gained over 2.8 million views in six days, and that infectious enthusiasm inspired
01:11numerous viewers to change their profile pictures to images of Hiccup and other characters from
01:16How to Train Your Dragon to drop into the comments.
01:18Naturally, beginning the cult that would grow so big, even the Duolingo L would succumb to it.
01:22Anne leaned into the cult and started posting videos addressing her Hiccup PNG army,
01:26including an April 19th TikTok where she prints out the Hiccup PNG to carry around with her in
01:31her pocket.
01:32The cult became increasingly popular over the next several days, largely due to videos and
01:36memes referencing it.
01:37For example, Aurora Light posted a video with a caption applauding her hilarious generation for
01:41the trend, which garnered over 1.4 million views in a day.
01:44Several notable accounts joined in on the joke,
01:46like rapper Baby No Money, who promised to join the cult if his video reached 200,000 likes,
01:51and then followed through on the promise, with follow-up videos, recruiting for, and
01:55trying to escape the cult.
01:56Users got really creative with this one, with members photoshopping Hiccup in all kinds of
02:00ways, putting his face on celebrities or other characters, or sprucing him up a bit with new
02:05hair.
02:05But like all good things, it seems the era of the Hiccup cult has recently come to an end,
02:09as the queen of the Hiccuplings has abdicated her throne.
02:12That's right, mother quit, and posted a video on April 26th, where she explains how things
02:16got a little out of hand.
02:18Some of y'all are a bit cuckoo.
02:20Number one, so people don't respect my boundaries.
02:22Though I absolutely love this whole family and like how much fun it's been, it's just,
02:25it's just been overwhelming as well.
02:27What TikTok cult do you think will be next?
02:29If it's a Kool-Aid man cult, then maybe we should start to worry.
02:42We'll see you next time.
02:43Bye.
02:44Bye.
02:45Bye.
02:46Bye.
02:47Bye.
02:48Bye.
02:49Bye.
02:50Bye.
02:51Bye.
