00:00The 2025 NFL Draft is officially behind us.
00:03Six Notre Dame players hear their name called.
00:05Everyone wants to hyper-focus on Benjamin Morrison, Xavier Watts.
00:08But there's a Day 3 Fighting Irish fit that I love the most
00:12and I think could surprise some folks on the NFL level.
00:15Let's talk about it next.
00:19Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports bringing down everything Notre Dame football.
00:22The 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the book.
00:24Six Notre Dame players came off the board in the three-day event.
00:28Benjamin Morrison first and foremost in the second round.
00:32Going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:33We had Xavier Watts going to the Atlanta Falcons in the third round.
00:36In the fourth round, Jack Kaiser goes to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
00:40Fifth round, saw Riley Mills drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.
00:44We also saw Mitchell Evans drafted by the Carolina Panthers.
00:47And in the sixth round, Riley Leonard, quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.
00:51So folks, I don't want to bore you with Benjamin Morrison, Xavier Watts.
00:55They're both top 100 football players, top 100 picks in this draft.
00:59Obviously, they are well thought of by their respective new organization.
01:04Excuse me.
01:05But I want to talk to you about a player and a fit that I find fascinating.
01:10And that's fascinating in the sense of walks into a pretty advantageous situation
01:15despite being a Day 3 football player that some people might ultimately overlook.
01:19But I really like the fit for Mitchell Evans with the Carolina Panthers.
01:23Now, first and foremost, if Mitchell Evans was fully healthy and didn't have the durability concerns
01:29during the course of his career, he's probably higher than a fifth round pick.
01:32If we remember him in 2023 when he was fully healthy for that eight-game stretch,
01:36he looked like arguably one of the best tight ends in all of college football that season.
01:42Now, expectations, hopefully, able to stay healthy.
01:45It's going to be very dependent on what that long-term outlook from just the staying available
01:50will look like for Mitchell Evans.
01:52But I really like the short-term possibility of him cracking the rotation for the Carolina Panthers
01:57because right now I look at that depth chart.
01:59You have former Notre Dame player Tommy Trimble on there.
02:02You also have Jadavion Sanders, the second-year pro out of the University of Texas.
02:06Jadavion showed some good stuff as a rookie over 30 receptions, over 300 yards.
02:10But nothing that says this job or this role, this rotation is set and this is untouchable.
02:17You also have Tommy Trimble who has been very average since he's been drafted to Notre Dame.
02:22I know there was upside of him when he came out.
02:24He was used more of a blocking role at Notre Dame.
02:27And you were hoping that maybe that pass-catching upside can get there.
02:30But only 20-something receptions, a little over 200 yards last year.
02:34So you're looking at a tight end room that is pretty wide open.
02:37And I think the most unique part, though, is that Mitchell Evans is a completely different type of tight end
02:42that is currently in that room.
02:44Jadavion Sanders is much more of that movement H-back type.
02:47Tommy Trimble, a little bit of the same.
02:49He could play in line because he's a pretty good blocker for his size especially.
02:52But Mitchell Evans is a completely different animal at 6'5", 255-plus pounds.
02:57This is a big, physical, catch-point type of tight end that could play a lot more in line.
03:02Not saying that he'll be tight end one during the 2025 season for the Carolina Panthers.
03:07But don't be shocked if you're watching the NFL next year, watching Carolina Panthers football,
03:12and Mitchell Evans is making a massive impact.
03:15Folks, put it in the chat right now.
03:17What Notre Dame player do you like the fit that they walk into?
