00:00Kochi is making headlines as it prepares to launch South India's first hydrogen fuel station,
00:09a pioneering step towards clean and sustainable transportation.
00:13But what does this mean for Kerala, for India and the future of green mobility?
00:18Here is everything you need to know about this landmark initiative and how it's set to transform the region.
00:30Kochi is on the verge of a major green milestone with the upcoming launch of South India's first hydrogen fuel station,
00:48located at Cochin International Airport.
00:51This ambitious project is the result of a strategic partnership between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited
00:57and Cochin International Airport Limited, known globally as the world's first fully solar-powered airport.
01:04The heart of this initiative is a state-of-the-art green hydrogen plant,
01:09which is being constructed near the airport in Nedumbasari.
01:12With nearly 70% of the work already completed, this facility is expected to be operational within the next one or two months.
01:20Built at an estimated cost of Rs. 25 crore, the plant will use renewable energy to produce green hydrogen from water,
01:30making it a zero-carbon fuel source.
01:33The first major application of this green hydrogen will be in transportation.
01:38The prototype hydrogen-fueled bus, developed with advanced fuel cell technology by Pune-based KPIT Technologies,
01:45has already been showcased at the Global Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi.
01:50Once the plant is commissioned, this bus will be deployed for airport operations or for short-distance connectivity,
01:58marking a new era for public transport in Kerala.
02:01BPCL is responsible for establishing and operating the integrated hydrogen production and fueling station,
02:08bringing its technological expertise to the table.
02:11Meanwhile, CIAL is providing the land, water and green energy resources needed for the project.
02:18The initial output from the plant will power vehicles within the airport, but the long-term vision is much broader.
02:25Set a benchmark for hydrogen-powered public transport and encourage further investment in green hydrogen infrastructure across Kerala and India.
02:34This initiative not only supports India's net-zero goals and energy independence,
02:39but also positions Kochi as a leader in sustainable mobility.
02:43By leveraging green hydrogen, a fuel produced from renewable sources,
02:48the project aims to drastically reduce emissions and set a new standard for eco-friendly transportation.
02:55With the world's first green hydrogen plant and fueling station at an airport,
02:59Kochi is paving the way for a cleaner, greener future,
03:03inspiring other cities to follow suit and invest in the fuels of tomorrow.
