00:00No, Poland isn't importing fake asylum seekers.
00:08Claims have emerged that fake asylum seekers are being shipped into Polish cities
00:13as part of a wider anti-migrant disinformation campaign.
00:17Posts like these onX have been circulating widely,
00:20showing videos of a group of people dragging suitcases along a street in Krakow at night.
00:24The captions published with the video read,
00:27fake asylum seekers are dumped in Krakow, Poland at night when Poles are sleeping.
00:32They accuse some unnamed authorities of being sneaky and wanting to destroy Poland
00:37as well as the rest of Europe.
00:39To find out the truth, we put a still from the video through a reverse image search,
00:43which led us to a Facebook post published on 19 April 2025
00:47by a public lobbying movement for the residents of Old Krakow.
00:50It campaigns to reduce noise and the opening times of catering businesses in the city,
00:55among other issues, to keep it peaceful for the people who live there, according to its website.
01:00The Facebook post says that the video shows a so-called hotel crawl
01:03of about 100 people in the city at about 1.15 a.m.
01:08It suggests that the tourists were making too much noise for that time of morning
01:11and that Krakow authorities should consider installing soundproof windows for residents,
01:16like a similar initiative in Vienna.
01:18The head of the lobbying group told Euroverify in a message that one of its members shot the video
01:22as an example of disruption in the city.
01:25He said that they don't know the nationality, gender or religion of the people in the video
01:29and that while they weren't particularly loud, their suitcases rolling along the street were.
01:35This is a disturbance of nighttime quiet, he added.
01:38We also reached out to the city of Krakow, which didn't respond to our requests for comment
01:42at the time of recording this report.
01:44So there's no evidence that the city is bringing in fake asylum seekers
01:48and the video is being shared online with a false caption
01:51that is presumably designed to whip up hatred and fear of migrants.
