00:01:00Eric Almirola will hit his pit box at the top of the screen.
00:01:03He said the car was fine, just felt like he can't do anything on his own, just kind of running at constant speed.
00:01:08So it was counting on some others' mistakes.
00:01:10Left side tires for Austin Hill and a chassis adjustment.
00:01:13Just wanted the rear of the race car in the track more, Kim.
00:01:15And you see his teammate, Jesse Love, there, checking from the bottom.
00:01:19He said really good car balance, but I don't know if he changed anything.
00:01:22They did put a little piece of tape on the left side.
00:01:24Left side tires only, snow coat fuel.
00:01:26You see Nick Sanchez, a little bit of a slow stop there.
00:01:29The call was to make left side tires only.
00:01:31He reported got a tick loose at the end, but still a better run than the first.
00:01:34Air pressure, Justin, to tighten him up.
00:01:35And now the race off progressive pit road.
00:01:38You see the numbers.
00:01:39Jesse Love able to reclaim the top spot.
00:01:42He and his teammate exchange positions.
00:01:45Almirola comes out third.

00:02:27And we're all set and ready to go for the final stage.
00:02:31First two stints of the race have been outstanding.
00:02:36And before we go green here for the final run of the race, let's get a pit report from Kim.
00:02:41Yeah, we talked about that pit stop of Nick Sanchez being just a little bit slow.
00:02:44Some of that was he did have to wait on fuel, but they were tied up in the choreography of that stop.
00:02:50Because they did left side tires only, I talked with the crew, and they said that the gas man,
00:02:54the tire got in between the gas man and the wall when he went to grab that second can, slowing up just a little bit.
00:03:00Then they had to wait on fuel to make sure it was full.
00:03:02But despite that kind of little bit of mishap, Nick Sanchez really the only rookie that's been able and willing to mix it up at the front of the field so far in the first two stages.
00:03:11And when I talked to Nick earlier today, he said he needed to show people they have a fast race car and get other drivers' trust before the end of the race.
00:03:18And he also said, we're going to race the whole race because that's what Scott wants to see.
00:03:21And I know Parker can talk to this.
00:03:23Scott Borchetta, the owner, wants no riding in the back for his team.
00:03:28A hundred percent, Kim.
00:03:29He made it clear to me one time we went to the back to try and protect the race car.
00:03:33He said, never again.
00:03:33I want to see that thing up front.
00:03:34And Nick has done exactly that.
00:03:36He scored the third most stage points today, 11 stage points on the day.
00:03:39Really impressive.
00:03:40I think he's proven to people he has a fast race car.
00:03:42Yeah, and we saw those left side pit stops, which you only see here.
00:03:45It kind of messes the choreograph up of, you know, what happens there.
00:03:49And you see right here with the 21 coming in, he gets in a little hot.
00:03:53You see that right front lock up.
00:03:54You see the tire changer on the left front have to reposition himself.
00:03:57Wasn't a big deal, but it hurts you about a second, second and a half.
00:04:00And that's what's allowed Jesse Love to get that lead again.
00:04:03Let's hear what Austin Hill had to say.
00:04:08I'm not trying to be a d***, but I mean, if they're going to run 30,
00:04:11can't they just hit a second time by?
00:04:13That would help us all out.
00:04:15Yeah, absolutely not.
00:04:17Well, and what Austin's referring to right there is when the pit stop was over,
00:04:21the car that's pitted in front of him had to come around.
00:04:23He had to sit there for just another second.
00:04:26It just compounded the issues that they had there on pit road.
00:04:29That's frustrating because so many cars stay on the lead lap here,
00:04:31these super speedways, right?
00:04:32And we haven't had any major wrecks that's taken anyone out.
00:04:35So you, as a lead car, that happens a lot of times
00:04:37when you have those cars that are further back in the field coming around you
00:04:41and you just have to time it correctly and hopefully avoid a collision.
00:04:44And it's so important for the spotter, crew chief, and driver to be aware of that
00:04:47because if you go to pull out that stall and you have contact,
00:04:49which we see almost every single weekend that happens,
00:04:52you know, tear your car up.
00:04:53They've done a really good job there.
00:04:55Hey, earlier this year, Austin Hill became the all-time leader
00:04:58when you talk about laps led at drafting tracks in the history of the Xfinity Series.
00:05:02But look down at the bottom of the screen in this graphic.
00:05:04Jesse Love, with what he's done here today,
00:05:06is in the top six in only nine races.
00:05:09He's led 348 laps, 35 of those coming today.
00:05:13And he's the control car restart, final stage at Talladega.
00:05:24No one better for Jesse Love to have behind him than his teammate Austin Hill.
00:05:28But I want to watch Eric Almarole, as you see his teammate William Swalich and Taylor Gray,
00:05:33all three JGR cars lined up on the outside.
00:05:36Can they work together to get in front of this RCR group?
00:05:40Can they put an assault on?
00:05:41That's exactly what I was thinking.
00:05:42Wow, the 48 Nick Sanchez goes to the top right there with a major move
00:05:46and gets a lot of helpers as well.
00:05:48That's pretty not typical to see where a bunch of people decide to go with you,
00:05:51shoving out Harrison Burton.
00:05:52It's like everyone decided they didn't want Harrison ahead of them,
00:05:55and it all went to the top.
00:05:56It didn't look intentional, but he had plenty of help once he darted out there.
00:06:00Here it is.

00:06:03It's almost like they had a big run.
00:06:04We got on that a little bit late, right?
00:06:06But they had a big run.

00:06:09Yeah, they're generating a little bit of run right here,
00:06:11and he shoots to the outside.
00:06:12That's an aggressive move.
00:06:14Gets to the outside of Harrison Burton as well.
00:06:16You have that momentum, and you want to use it while you have it.
00:06:20Kim said they want to be aggressive.
00:06:23That's a mandate from the boss,
00:06:25and that was about as aggressive as it gets, that dive to the outside.
00:06:28And the other thing that does being successful in the stage
00:06:31is it kind of takes some pressure off.
00:06:33Getting 11 points already now, no matter what happens today,
00:06:35they have those 11 points in their pocket,
00:06:37you can be more aggressive now when the pay window opens later in this race
00:06:41because you absolutely have gotten those points early on.
00:06:44It gives you that chance of a little more leeway.
00:06:45Parker went there.

00:07:13Parker, the one thing that I can't kind of listen
00:07:15as we listen to his spotter, Eddie DeHaan, talk
00:07:18is the pitch of the engine
00:07:20because that's kind of what you reference inside the card.
00:07:22Knowing where the draft is, you feel it, but you also hear it.
00:07:27Eddie, though, is so calm on the radio.
00:07:29You want them to be calm.
00:07:30But we do hear moments of intensity from him,
00:07:33and as you said, sometimes the tone from the spotter stand
00:07:37can send a major message.
00:07:39And as impressive as that run was that we saw Sanchez get,
00:07:42it crushed that outside lane.
00:07:44Because they pulled out, the outside lane then was cut in half.
00:07:47You see Eric Alvarola right there.
00:07:50It's moved that lane back.
00:07:51They're starting to get kind of regrouped together.
00:07:53It takes laps here.
00:07:55It doesn't happen in a straightaway.
00:07:56It takes multiple laps to get that going again.
00:07:58And especially in the Xfinity car,
00:07:59it just seems to generate runs.
00:08:01It can take momentum being built up,
00:08:04as you mentioned, over a couple laps.
00:08:05And that's why when you see someone who has a run,
00:08:07like we've seen out of Austin Hill earlier in the race,
00:08:10take it, Lee.
00:08:10You take it.
00:08:11And that's what Austin Hill has always said.
00:08:13When he gets a run, he takes it
00:08:14because you just don't know when that will materialize again.
00:08:16Look who's leading that outside lane.
00:08:1899, Matt DiBenedetto working his way to the top five.
00:08:21He's won a truck race here.
00:08:23And a couple of spots behind him drafting that outside lane.
00:08:26The rookie is William Swalich in the 18, Kim.
00:08:30Yeah, let's get a Toyota driver update.
00:08:32Doing a great job right now.
00:08:33And he's got very limited super speedway experience.
00:08:37He's got just one truck start on a super speedway.
00:08:40Remember, he just turned 18 last October,
00:08:43which limited his availability to run these bigger racetracks.
00:08:47But because of that, they put him in the ARCA car earlier today.
00:08:49He finished ninth in that race.
00:08:51And he's been doing this frequently just to get more seat time.
00:08:54With a limited amount of practice on the Xfinity Series side,
00:08:56he really needs that extra seat time.
00:08:58That's been an emphasis for the team.
00:09:00Jeff Lundering told me they are, at this point,
00:09:02not paying attention to points.
00:09:03They're trying to build his confidence
00:09:04and start running solid races and finishing solid races.
00:09:09It's hard to believe when you look at the numbers,
00:09:12the bad luck they've had.
00:09:13A lot of rookie moments for William Swalich.
00:09:16But very much in the game today.

00:11:56Talladega Super Speedway, NASCAR Xfinity Series racing at this historic track for the 38th time with Parker Kligerman, Jamie McMurray.
00:12:04I'm Adam Alexander, Dylan Welch, Kim Kuhn on the pit lane, Carla Metz, our host today.
00:12:09We know pit stops are going to come here, and they'll come under green if we don't get our first caution for incident of the day.
00:12:17So far, it's been a very clean afternoon, and it's been a clean afternoon on the stat sheet for Jesse Love, who's led 44 laps from the pole this afternoon.
00:12:27And right, it seemed almost a little calm right here because we are getting close to within a couple laps of the window being open to pit here on the green and have the fuel to go to the end.
00:12:35And one thing also to keep note of is some of the teams and drivers are trying to get aligned with each other to make those pit stops if it does become an opportunity.
00:12:42You have the 48 who wants to get back with the RCR cars who they're affiliated with.
00:12:46You have the 39, Ryan Sieg, who's trying to find another Ford.
00:12:49Some of the Toyotas trying to find themselves.
00:12:51So that's why we're seeing this be a little bit calmer.
00:12:54Some are happy where they're at.
00:12:55Others are trying desperately to get back to the front to be near the people they want to pit with.
00:12:59Yeah, and a couple of things.
00:13:00If we have green flag pit stops, I want my spotter to remind me, listen, don't speed on pit road.
00:13:05Don't lock up your tires getting on pit road.
00:13:07These guys didn't get to practice because of the way qualifying is.
00:13:10You don't get to practice getting on pit road.
00:13:11But it's a challenging one to get on the way the splitters can get on the ground, the bumps getting in.
00:13:17You can lock those tires up.
00:13:18But you cannot have that penalty this late in the race.
00:13:21You mentioned the spotters.
00:13:22Communication key up there as you start trying to get organized, what Parker referenced.
00:13:27I always love, though, being where Kim and Dylan are on pit road and the crew chief gets off the box and he runs over to his neighbor's pit box.
00:13:34And he says, hey, we're going to come now.
00:13:36Will you come with us?
00:13:37Because you can make all the plans you want during the week.
00:13:40You can have meetings in the garage race morning.
00:13:42But until you get into the race and see who you're running with, when you've got to make that green flag stop, you just don't know who your partners might be.
00:13:49Hey, Jamie, you know how I know how old Adam is?
00:13:52He mentioned getting off the box.
00:13:53They do that over text message.

00:14:05Yeah, and one thing to keep in mind as you watch this, if you think you're going to pit on the front side of this, you're going to get on the bottom where you see Jesse Love, Austin Hill,
00:14:11or if you're a little bit further back, Carson Quapel, Jeff Burton, because you want to make sure that you don't have to cut across traffic.
00:14:17If you're in that outside lane, you're maybe thinking we're going to go another lap, an extra lap, because it might make up some ground being on the outside,
00:14:24and those guys forming in that bottom line, pitting just a little bit earlier.
00:14:27Let's pay off some drivers here in the top ten.
00:14:30Haven't talked a lot about today.
00:14:31Brandon Jones leading that outside lane now.
00:14:34One at Darlington a few weeks ago.
00:14:36Sammy Smith inside of him.
00:14:37Last week's winner at Rockingham won here last fall.
00:14:40Right behind him, Connor Zilich.
00:14:42You know, he's raced three times in the draft, once in trucks, twice in Xfinity.
00:14:46He's never finished a race when you talk about competing in the draft, but here he is circling to the front.
00:14:52We mentioned Matt DiBenedetto, Jeffrey Earnhardt driving that 24 car for Sam Hunt.
00:14:57So some great names in the top ten, and they're starting to feel it out here as we work toward this pit stop under green.
00:15:04And, Parker, you mentioned it.
00:15:05Ooh, look at Sammy Smith giving Austin Hill just a little push.
00:15:08They're doing that because that outside row started making up ground.
00:15:11So when you're on the inside, you'll get a little more aggressive to push, try to get the two car back out front to get your row moving forward.
00:15:17What they don't want to happen is the 20 get out front and be able to move down in front of them because it moves your whole row back one line.
00:15:23But you said it.
00:15:24It's like calmed down just a little bit.
00:15:25Like for the first time in the race, the 21 almost seems content right now behind the two.
00:15:30That wasn't the case earlier.
00:15:31Sammy Smith led some laps earlier.
00:15:32These guys have all calmed down just a little bit, I think, trying to get to that last pit stop and then race for the win.
00:15:38And part of why he might be...
00:15:39Get the key in your brakes.
00:15:40You know the deal.
00:15:41We saw that right front lock up when he made his pit stop and we heard a report from Dylan about the right, maybe a vibration.
00:15:50Pit now, pit now, pit now.
00:15:52There's the key.
00:15:53And you see the hand out the window of the 21 Austin Hill.
00:15:55The RCR cars are pitting right now.
00:15:58Yeah, and that's dangerous if no one behind them is pitting.
00:16:00You see them frantically.
00:16:01They're waving their hands.
00:16:03It's one thing for Sammy Smith.
00:16:04He can see their hands out the window.
00:16:05When you get four or five rows back, you've got to depend on your spotter to tell you because you cannot see that.
00:16:10And this is right at the edge of the window.
00:16:11Lap 68 here.
00:16:13This is basically the max amount.
00:16:15The earliest you'd want to be on pit roads.
00:16:16You see a ton of Chevys.
00:16:17Some of the college Chevys and Jeff Burton joining them and the big machine 48.
00:16:21So this is a big group of Chevrolets.
00:16:23Strength in numbers.
00:16:23Chevys has won the last 11 races here at Talladega and a whole bunch of bow ties in the pit lane, Dylan.
00:16:30And Austin Hill asked that he would still be tightened up and battling that all day.
00:16:34They will have to change right-side tires here to report a vibration, we think, from that slide the last time down the pit road, Kim.
00:16:41And the call for his teammate, Jesse Love, by Crew Chief Danny's coming.
00:16:44Two right-side tires go on the jack.
00:16:46You see him kind of slide there.
00:16:48Done with the pit stop there for Jesse Love.
00:16:50So, Parker, when we leave pit road right now, it's not a race, right?
00:16:54We want to get in line.
00:16:55We want to get single file as quick as possible so we can make up or have the fastest lap times trying to make sure that when these guys pit, we can cycle back in front of them.
00:17:04I always liked pitting early.
00:17:05It puts them in an interesting fuel window of, you know, green-white checkers and how far we can make it.
00:17:10But I like being on the front side because you have the momentum when the other group pulls out.
00:17:14And the analytics will tell you being the first group on pit road is the most advantageous because it breaks up this pack.
00:17:20They run a couple laps that are slower.
00:17:21And if that other group of Chevys can get lined up like you mentioned, they can sort of counteract with the speed of that pack is going.
00:17:27And this isn't good, though, Adam.
00:17:28You see that there's three of them.
00:17:30And the other thing that can happen here is because that pack is coming, they're going to get a little bit of a sniff, a draft off those guys in front.
00:17:36And they might actually have quicker lap times.
00:17:38They've got to get together.
00:17:39It was interesting looking at the last car in that group that made the pit stop.
00:17:4342 Anthony Alfredo had a vibration early, unscheduled pit stop, got a free pass.
00:17:48And he pitted with that group of Chevys that came a couple of times ago.
00:17:52Now the Toyota's all lined up.
00:17:55Saw the hands out the window.
00:17:57And they will stay out.
00:17:59But some of the drivers behind them making pit stops here.
00:18:01More Chevys.
00:18:02Matt DiBenedetto leading the group.
00:18:03And behind them, a bunch from Junior Motorsports.
00:18:06The Fords and Toyotas stay on track, Dylan.
00:18:10Yeah, Sammy Smith and the rest of the Junior Motorsports cars are in.
00:18:13The aid of Smith has just been too tight all day.
00:18:15You saw the little chassis adjustment there in the back window.
00:18:18Waiting on the fuel.
00:18:19Want to get it full in case of a green-white checkered at the end of this one, too, Kim.
00:18:22Quiet day for Connor Zillich.
00:18:24Haven't talked too much about him.
00:18:25Earlier in the race, he said the balance felt okay.
00:18:27Then recently told the team it was a little draggy in the bubble.
00:18:30And overall, just he needs to make better decisions is what the rookie told his team.
00:18:34You know, it's interesting when you look at that group coming off.
00:18:38Carson Quapel was the first.
00:18:40And so he will have that group of drivers in tow.
00:18:44We'll see how it all merges together once everyone has made their scheduled stop here in the final stage.
00:18:50And these guys are grouped together pretty good.
00:18:52The pack that hasn't pitted yet.
00:18:55As you see right here, that first group that pitted, you see the momentum they're going to have.
00:18:59These guys are a little bit late off the pit road.
00:19:01The other advantage they're going to have is they're going to get that little bit of draft.
00:19:03But I think the second group is actually going to be in a little better position right here.
00:19:08It's just going to depend on that momentum that the first group has.
00:19:11A little bit of that was the main pack that they dropped away from was actually turning some faster lap times in this group here of Chevys that we first saw on pit road.
00:19:19They didn't get quite lined up quick enough and sort of generate some of the momentum and turn the lap times they needed to counteract the main pack and the laps they were doing.
00:19:2616 to Christian Eckes was a part of that group that made a pit stop first.
00:19:32They came down at lap 71.
00:19:35And at this point right now, that group that pitted first is running a little quicker lap time than what the Toyotas are right here.
00:19:45But it's going to depend.
00:19:46This will slow them all down right now.
00:19:47When they get side by side, you can't be selfish in this situation.
00:19:51You've got to get single file, maybe let a guy in.
00:19:54Even though you don't want to, this just slows your whole pack down.
00:19:58And though it might benefit you in this group of cars, it's going to hurt you overall.
00:20:02Well, correct myself, Eckes came with that group at lap 69.
00:20:0569 is when they've made their pit stop.
00:20:08The other Chevys came at lap 71.
00:20:10And when you look at the bumper, you can see how many laps it's been since drivers made a pit stop.

00:21:12So even though they might have run a little slower lap time, maybe the slightly shorter fill is going to benefit them.

00:21:18And they made their pit stops lap 69-71, and the Toyotas coming off pit road.
00:21:24The fact that they're too wide is going to hurt them when they catch this next group.
00:21:28If they were single file, you could get to the outside.
00:21:31But the fact that they're too wide I think is going to hinder them.
00:21:33It's just going to depend on how much momentum they have.

00:22:03That's going to shove Swalich to the back of this pack.
00:22:06But it probably benefited all his friends that he pitted with by slowing up those pack of Chevys.

00:22:14But it is, I think, going to slow down from getting all the way to the lead.
00:22:17As you see, Brandon Jones, Eric Almirola, Taylor Gray, the three Gibbs cars have put themselves in a great position.
00:22:23They're going to have to move up, though, and block this outside lane eventually.
00:22:26And this was a net gain by the Toyotas over the Chevys and some of the fours who stick together.
