00:00Good morning, everyone. My name is Lauren Speck. I'm a candidate for the Tengah constituency of CCK, Chow Chukang, GRC for the PSP Party.
00:16One of the most important subject matter that I'm championing right now for this election actually is the implementation, the feasibility study, at least I would like the government to do, of the universal minimum wage in Singapore.
00:29I think that the socio-economic situation in Singapore now requires that feasibility to be done.
00:37Number one is that it is not true that the residents are demanding a universal minimum wage. They don't know about it. They're not aware about it. Singapore never had it.
00:46However, people feedback to me is that it's not that they don't have a job offer. They do. It's that it is too low.
00:52Who would want to go into a full-time employment for 1,004, 1,006, 1,008 even?
00:57At this salary level, it is impossible to be able to keep up with the high rate of inflation, rising costs of living, which is why it is time that the government be able to be courageous, to have the audacity, to look at the feasibility, if necessary, to implement a universal minimum wage.
01:19Even though I'm in my mid-50s right now, I will bring with me a new perspective, a dare-to-speak attitude, as perpetuated by our two NCMP, Hazel Pua and Leong Manwai.
01:34I am not cut from the same kind of cloth, which the candidates from the ruling party, I do not speak their language, I am not from them.
01:42People come up to me, they know who I am, they know my background, and they encourage me by saying, do your best, do your best, I will vote for you.
01:50So these are the kind of feedback that really invigorates me.
01:54I can't prove it to you, or I can do show it to you, but I can hold my breath, close up to three minutes.
02:03Okay.
02:04Yes.
02:04Yes.
