02:36selamat menikmati
03:06The Frenchman's rally stuttered to a halt before it had even begun
03:10An electrical fault resulted in failure to start stage 2 and a 10-minute penalty
03:15Hyundai's goal to transform their poor reliability record in Kenya
03:24was dealt a further blow when world champion Thierry Nerville
03:28suffered electrical problems in Thursday's final sector
03:36At least teammate Oik Tanak was the overnight leader
03:39Takakatsuta on a charge rode his luck into second overnight
03:48The 2025 edition of Safari Rally Kenya proved beyond doubt that rallying in East Africa is unique
04:05There was drama before the crews had even left the Naivasha service park
04:11Hyundai engineers leapt into action to replace Nerville's faltering gearbox
04:15They took just six minutes longer than the 15 allowed
04:19A job well done and the Belgian's one-minute penalty was nothing in the context of this event
04:24He was however 1 minute 40 off the lead in fourth after Friday's first loop
04:30Success in Kenya is forged on the evaluation of risk versus reward
04:42Elvin Evans' experience here led him to dial back on the risk factor
04:46And by the midday service he was second
04:49In Kenya though, sometimes experience counts for nothing
04:59Two-time winner Kalirov Mpera caught out here
05:02A costly spin left him 47 seconds off the lead in third
05:07It was Oik Tanak who turned up the heat on Friday
05:12Setting four fastest stage times and leaving his rivals in the dust
05:16The Estonian had looked unstoppable
05:22But then driveshaft failure left him with rear-wheel drive only
05:27He affected roadside repairs
05:29But by the end of the day had dropped to fourth
05:31Opening the door for Evans
05:33Friday was exceptionally rough actually
05:40The second pass especially at this Camp Moran stage
05:43Which was new for this year
05:44Very challenging, very hot inside the car
05:47For me it was a case of trying to get through there
05:49Without a puncture, without damaging the car
05:51Which thankfully we've managed to do
05:52Others were less fortunate
05:58Adrian Formos, striving to claw his way back
06:02Retired on Camp Moran
06:03His front right steering arm destroyed
06:06After he drove almost 10km on the rim
06:09When electing not to stop to change a wheel
06:11Oh look the suspension's gone
06:15Yeah I think it's broken a steering arm
06:16Disaster for Adrian Formos
06:21So overnight Friday to Saturday we got quite a bit of rain
06:31And there were sections of the stages very localised
06:34With very heavy mud and water
06:35So that was quite challenging
06:37And then you had a breather
06:38Where there was a bit more grip again
06:39And then into another bad set
06:41So yeah it was still a very difficult Saturday morning
06:44Evan's steady approach saw him navigate the hazards
06:48Extend his lead and put pressure on 2nd place Robben Perra
06:53The Finns response unravelled swiftly
06:57Consecutive punctures and over a minute and a half dropped by midday
07:02He was still second after more carnage for the rest of the field
07:06Further danger was looming
07:08Saturday afternoon we left service with two hard tyres on the car
07:12And we got close to the stage
07:14And we started to see the messages pinging
07:16That it's raining quite heavily in the stage
07:20And I'm arguing a little bit with the engineer
07:22Saying come on I need to fit these socks
07:24And he said no please wait please wait so I can be sure
07:26And of course he waited until the moment
07:28It was absolutely lashing it down
07:29Before making us get out to change them
07:31So he wasn't very popular in that moment
07:33It was exceptionally difficult
07:41Again not all of the stage
07:43But there was bits of it that was absolutely flooded
07:46I spun 360 on an absolutely dead straight piece of road
07:49So that's a career first at least
07:51Fortune had favoured the Welshman
07:59Rob and Perret then set out to awaken the sleeping warrior
08:03And clawed back over 11 seconds on Evans
08:06But arrived at the stop line with a damaged rear suspension arm
08:10Ratchet straps to the rescue
08:12But the fin had to back off for the final two stages of the day
08:16Dropping from second to fifth
08:18Nerville had an eventful Saturday
08:23Two punctures, a misfiring engine and a misted up windscreen
08:27Third place by the end of the day
08:29Testament to the Belgian's fighting spirit
08:32As he dug in to overcome illness too
08:35By Sunday
08:42Just 65 competitive kilometres stood between Evans
08:46And his maiden safari victory
08:48He led by just under two minutes
08:51But he was served an early warning
08:53We did the first stage on Sunday
08:56No problem
08:57We had a warning on the car
09:01It looks like the alternator belt failed
09:03So we had to change that basically
09:05Bit of a fiddly job
09:08But thankfully got it done just in time
09:10Definitely was a bit of a cruise after that
09:12Just trying to look after the car
09:14And not pick up any trouble
09:16Takakatsuta started Sunday just over 30 seconds
09:25Adrift of Thierry Nerville in third
09:27Two consecutive spins didn't deter him
09:30And he hit back to set up an all or nothing power stage battle
09:35Adrian Formo, who had withdrawn from Saturday's leg
09:41Returned in a bid to claim all the Super Sunday bonus points
09:45Up for grabs
09:46The Frenchman achieved his aim
09:48To seize a ten point haul from the final day
09:52Instead of leaving Kenya empty handed
09:58Katsuta charged into the power stage
10:01But disaster struck early
10:11With spectator help he reached the end of the stage
10:14But still had to check in at the final time control at service to claim fourth
10:21Taka, I'm so sorry that happened
10:23Are you okay, first of all?
10:25Just sorry for the team, nothing else
10:32Thierry Nerville's famed resolve helped him overcome two minutes of penalties
10:39Exhaustion and illness
10:40Multiple punctures
10:42And a fogged up windscreen to claim third
10:52Oyt Tanak had rebounded from losing his Friday lead to finish second
10:56Securing Hyundai's double podium and best ever finish here in Kenya
11:01Elvin Evans, expertly navigated by co-driver Scott Martin, deservedly won their first safari rally
11:10Kenya
11:112025 had been an East African classic and the relief was clear to see on the face of the winner
11:17I want to say thank you to everyone in Kenya for a very warm welcome
11:24An amazing rally, I have to say a huge well done to the team
11:26They did an amazing job
11:28And I'm proud to be a very small part of the history of Toyota and the special rally
11:33Evans becomes the third British driver to win in Kenya
11:37Joining world champions Colin McRae and Richard Burns
11:41Heartbreak for Katsuta, who retired on the final road section
11:45As a result, Sammy Pyre claimed fourth
11:48But Toyota's safari stranglehold had been weakened
11:52M-Sports Munster was fifth
12:01Evans opens up a 36-point deficit on Thierry Nerville
12:05That lead sets a record for the highest ever margin after three rounds in WRC history
12:11Oyt Tanak is just three points behind Nerville in third
12:16Hyundai's 56 points reduces Toyota's advantage in the manufacturer's race
12:21Ahead of the first true tarmac challenge of the season at Rally Islas Canarias
12:27Well Safari Rally Kenya, a distant past
12:30And now all of that drama, all of that adventure led to Elvin Evans having that 36-point lead
12:36Coming into our first tarmac round of the season
12:40Now that lead is impressive, we do have more points up for grabs this season
12:44But the crucial thing is that Elvin will open the road
12:47But perhaps that's not going to be so challenging for him here
12:51Other than the warmer weather, it's pretty much equal playing field out there
12:55Yeah, I think if anything, excuse me, I think if anything Elvin's possibly a bit of a disadvantage Kiri
13:01Because certainly in the mornings, because the temperature's lower
13:05We're using for the first time ever the hard compound hand-cooked tyres
13:09So everybody's learning, but we saw in Monte Carlo that drawing temperature into the tyre takes a little bit of time
13:14That was the soft compound
13:16When the temperature's lower and there's no rubber gone down
13:19Elvin's actually perhaps at a bit of a disadvantage
13:21And normally, look, on a tarmac rally you want to take big, big cuts, don't you?
13:26And drag all that mud out
13:27There's not many big cuts at this rally
13:30You know, you've got arm code barriers and you've got cliff face, that's it, or big drops
13:33So there's not a huge amount of cutting to be done
13:35So I think Elvin's just got to get his head down
13:37Once he can get the first stage out of the way in the morning
13:39That's when he can press on
13:40The beauty though, after such a good weekend
13:42Is even if he gets a no score
13:44He's got a rally in hand
13:45He's still going to be leading the championship
13:47Now we hope that doesn't happen, but that takes the pressure off for sure
13:49Now some things you just mentioned there
13:51You'll see some epic scenery this weekend
13:53This island is just surrounded by mountainous sort of volcano scenery
13:58It really is just absolutely epic
14:01The stages are fast, they're furious
14:03And they're so, so challenging as well
14:06Things to look out for are those microclimates
14:08The temperature running out there
14:09We might see some rain
14:10And of course the tyres that Cheney's already mentioned
14:13But how did they all fare in Shakedown?
14:15It happened earlier on today
14:16Let's take a look
14:19Round four of the World Rally Championship
14:21Played out against the stunning backdrop of Gran Canaria
14:25The Spanish island making its debut in the Sports Elite Series
14:29Championship leader Elvin Evans among crews
14:32Taking to the water for a spot of pre-event sailing
14:35Before looking to continue his impressive start to the campaign
14:39Rally Islas Carreras, the first asphalt test of the season
14:43The scene set for three days of compelling high-speed action
14:47On twisty mountain roads
14:49Elvin Evans in pursuit of a first World Drivers title
14:52First away in his Toyota Yaris
14:54Road-hugging low profile set up for these smooth roads
15:01New stages, new pace notes
15:03All adding to the challenge
15:05World Champion Thierry Neville looking to make up ground in the title race
15:0936 points adrift of Evans going into round four
15:17Toyota setting the early pace here on Gran Canaria
15:20Double World Champion Kalerofenpera leading the way in his Yaris R1
15:25By some two and a half seconds
15:31M Sport rookie Josh McElaine familiar with asphalt terrain from his native island
15:37Another learning curve for the youngster here
15:39Huge contrast to recent outings on Sweden's snow and ice
15:43And Safari's dusty terrain
15:48So Kalerofenpera topping shakedown ahead of Toyota teammate Takamoto Katsuta
15:52White Tanak and Thierry Neville matching times in the sister Hyundai i20s
15:57Championship leader Evans fifth
16:01Well there's a cluster of drivers currently sitting on 31 points in that championship standing
16:10And one of those drivers is Kalerofenpera
16:11It's not been the best start to the season
16:13He needs to do something here
16:15If he's either remotely in contention for this championship
16:18Yeah for sure look he hasn't had by his own admission
16:21Hasn't had the best start to the year at all has he Kiri
16:23But in shakedown he was unbelievable
16:24The first run through he was a full second a kilometer
16:27Quicker than anybody else
16:28I suspect I suspect there must have been
16:31Soft compound tires on that car
16:33Because everyone else running hard
16:34There must have been soft on it somewhere
16:36I don't know that
16:37But to go a second a K quicker than anybody else
16:39And then go on to win shakedown by two and a half seconds over Takamoto Katsuta
16:42You know it shows that the pace is in him and in the Toyota
16:45Taka seconds through shakedown as well
16:47I know not fully representative of what we'll see out there on the rally
16:50But important to note how fast Taka can be on tarmac as well
16:54Alright Sebastian Ogier joining us back this weekend
16:57He's not done the rally here
16:59There's plenty of drivers out there that haven't been here
17:01There's a few that have
17:02But an excitement for the flans to see Sebastian Ogier back in business
17:06And for the manufacturers points collection
17:08Yeah look it's brilliant
17:10It's always good to have Sebastian Ogier
17:12And Sebastian Loeb when he was making the odd appearance as well
17:15And Ogier's got that same heritage about his name hasn't he
17:19So it's brilliant to have him back
17:20Of course he's going to be vital to Toyota this weekend
17:25It's a new rally for everybody
17:27Regardless of your experience
17:28Because the stages are completely different
17:30So how is Seb going to fare? I don't know
17:33He's never prospered on a brand new rally
17:36He's always done well on rallies he's got experience with
17:38It's going to be interesting to see how he gets on
17:40Regardless Toyota have got a hell of a driver line up this weekend
17:43Yeah indeed
17:44Alright well what do the drivers think about Rally Islas Canarias?
17:47Let's find out
17:48Rally Islas Canarias steps up from the European Rally Championship to the WRC
17:56New rallies present new challenges
17:59What you see in recce is more or less what you will see in the rally
18:06The weather can play its part also
18:08But I think the consistent side of it will help us build speed on tarmac with the rallying car
18:15The rally is typical Spanish roads
18:18It's smooth tarmac, Armco one side rock face to the other
18:21The stages are proper like twisty mounted roads
18:27Not a lot of junctions and stuff like in many other tarmac rollies
18:31You can have a really nice flow
18:33And I think the biggest thing is definitely the part that it's not a lot of cutting
18:37So even second pass the stage should be pretty clean
18:41Rally Grand Canaria in 2010 and I discovered the car and the roads
18:50It was very tough but I know and I remember that the atmosphere was great
18:57The Spanish fans are just crazy about rallying and it was full of people
19:03Super crowded and that's what we want to see
19:06Massive challenge for Hancock as a new manufacturer to come in
19:14Of course, there's also the challenge of the weather with it being an island
19:17You can have, you know, very hot and sun shining on one side of the mountain
19:22And it raining on the other
19:23So, you know, if you need to start mixing tyres for example
19:27That could be very difficult to make them last
19:29It's a tricky one as well because you think there is so much grip that you could get away with like a soft compound
19:42And not need the wet compound
19:44But I've done the experience I think in 2020
19:49It was pouring rain and I went without wet tyre and it was a disaster
19:54I went into a barrier, I managed to continue but I think I lost something like 4 minutes on the complete loop
20:04And so, yeah, for sure when it starts to rain, it's very dry
20:08I'm happy to be back in Canaries
20:18It's a great island, it's great roads
20:20I won it but it's, you know, when I went there, the Canaries people told me
20:25He never went in Canaries
20:27It's only rain three days per year
20:29Okay, I spent one week there, it was raining four days
20:32So, you know, it's a beautiful island but the weather is changeable all the time
20:40The weather indeed can be changeable
20:42We are expecting perhaps rain on Friday as well
20:45So we will see, we've talked about those microclimates
20:48Now it is the first time from what you've just seen that we will be on tarmac for this 2025 season
20:53That means the cars will look very different
20:56They look incredible in this spec
20:58Talk to us about the changes that we'll see on the cars
21:01Yeah, I mean, it's the polar opposite from what we saw in Kenya, wasn't it?
21:04The first thing is in Kenya, obviously the cars are jacked up as high as they can
21:07You're running the ride as high as you possibly can to try and protect them
21:10Here it's the polar opposite, we've gone down as low as you can say
21:13Dropped around 100 mil or so
21:15They're running the stiffest springs they've got
21:17They've basically tried to turn the rally car into a race car
21:21So stiffer springs, stiffer roll bars
21:23Trying to take any flex, any movement out of the car
21:26Of course, if it rains, you then start to soften stuff up
21:29But it's the beauty of the World Rally Championship
21:32That you can change a car from full gravel spec
21:35That was able to deal with everything that we just saw in Kenya a few weeks ago
21:38To this, which is super smooth tarmac
21:41The base setup is as stiff as you can possibly make it
21:44And then work your way back from there
21:46If it rains, as we just heard from Elvin
21:48It will make tyre choice and setup very, very difficult
21:51And I hope it doesn't rain, to be honest
21:53I want to see a bone dry because the roads are so good
21:55But then if it does, when do you opt to put the soft tyre on?
21:58It's going to be difficult
21:59It's going to be difficult, it's going to be exciting
22:01And this rally is anyone's to win at the moment
22:04But what is the perfect setup? Do the drivers know?
22:07The WRC teams will have used the break after Safari Rally Kenya
22:14To prepare thoroughly for Rally Islas Canarias
22:17Back at the team bases, engineers will have microscopically analysed test data
22:22And all eyes will be on new control tyre provider Hankook
22:26And how they'll perform on tarmac
22:28Hyundai and Toyota sent Nerville and Evans to compete at the national level
22:34In the recent ERC opening round in Spain
22:37The fast and technical Andalusian roads offered both drivers
22:41The prime opportunity to fine tune their setups
22:44And familiarise themselves with Hankook's asphalt tyre range
22:48Ahead of the WRC fourth round in the Canaries
22:52Rally Islas Canarias is expected to be a traditional tarmac rally
22:57Run on tight, grippy roads in hot weather conditions
23:00And the ERC rally Sierra Morena presented the first chance
23:04To get an understanding of the tyres
23:06And the balance of the car on tarmac
23:08Providing invaluable data on setup
23:12What exactly is the perfect car setup for the all-new next round?
23:18You need to find a bit of a compromise between the smooth and wider stages
23:23And the narrow and more bumpy sections
23:26Where you can have a lot of quests and very technical sections
23:30So it will be again a bit of a compromise
23:32But overall I think that you can have a bit of more of a stiff car
23:36A bit more racing type car
23:38Because a lot of direction changes
23:40You don't want too much roll and too much delay from the car
23:43But still you want the maximum of grip
23:45It's not a lot of bumps and cuts
23:48So you can go really low with the car
23:50I think you need pretty much like a circuit racing car there
23:54As much as you can do
23:55Really stable, turning really well
23:57You have long corners
23:58And I would say a pretty aggressive car to drive
24:02But yeah, if it works well, it's pretty nice
24:05It's probably the grip
24:08Obviously the weather is usually good at that time of year
24:10It's smooth, it's like a racetrack
24:12There's a lot of racing lines
24:14And once you get that right
24:16The sensation of speed obviously will be a lot higher in a rally one car
24:19But whenever all that comes together
24:21It's like more towards a racing circuit than rally
24:26It's like the ultimate performance of the car
24:28Pushing it to the limit on such a grippy road
24:32But for sure there is still a very nice feeling when you get it right
24:37On such a condition
24:39With a very high grip, large road
24:41Perfect line and so on
24:42Perfect pace note
24:44So yeah, it's not something that we do often
24:46So it's good to have it on the calendar
24:50Well, will they find the perfect set-up this weekend?
24:53All will be discovered over the next four days
24:56Right, just to give you an idea of what's going on
24:58Very shortly we should have Meet the Cruise
24:59And then a start round
25:01But we'll be seeing the drivers
25:02You'll be hearing a lot from the drivers
25:04There is so much about this weekend
25:06And it's all so different compared to Safari Rally, can you?
25:10It's just a complete opposite in every single way
25:13Yeah, I mean like I said
25:14We've gone from the roughest rally of the year
25:17To what is ultimately the smoothest rally of the year
25:20And trust me, tarmac rallying is my favourite
25:22I know some people will say gravel rally
25:24I absolutely love tarmac rallying
25:25The cars look amazing
25:26And when you're
25:27We just heard the drivers saying it
25:29When you're threading the needle
25:30Through roads like this
25:31And you've got so much grip
25:32And everything comes together
25:34There's no better feeling
25:35But what I will say is
25:37Because the grip levels are so high
25:39And it's the same as being in a race car
25:41When it lets go
25:42It lets go like that
25:43And there's no margin for error
25:45You're going to hit something
25:46And we will see people come a cropper this weekend
25:49They'll have loads and loads and loads of grip
25:50And then bang
25:51And then bang
25:52It just drops off a cliff edge
25:53And you have an accident
25:55And Friday morning is going to be interesting as well
25:57Because we're heading out first tarmac
25:59It's the longest stage of the weekend
26:01They're sealing out those tyres as well
26:03Tomorrow morning is the place to really get an idea of what's in store for the weekend
26:08Well, we are keeping on our eyes at the back here
26:11Because we are waiting for Meet the Cruise
26:13But it's a full weekend of rallying
26:15And it's a classic set-up as well
26:16It's three and three
26:17We've got a few super specials in the evenings
26:19And then it's a Sunday all-out run to the Wolf Power stage
26:23Yeah, and look, I think there's a bit of pressure on those drivers
26:27There's pressure on everybody with the exception of Elvin Evans
26:29You know, Elvin can go out
26:30And if he finishes in the top three and bags points
26:33That's a brilliant result for him
26:34Everybody else has to get a good result here really
26:37And it is 100% of a sprint
26:40Because on tarmac rallying
26:42If you're not at 100%
26:44And you're dropping time
26:45It's very, very difficult to get that time back
26:48Particularly in a place like here
26:49And like I said
26:51There's very little margin for error
26:53You can't get it wrong
26:54It's going to be really interesting to see how that Hankirk hard tyre holds up
26:57I'm looking forward to it
26:58And as I saw in Kenya
27:00As we saw in Kenya
27:01I'm a massive fan of having a long stage to kick off the rally
27:05Because it tests the drivers straight away from the off
27:08Yeah, indeed
27:09And we need some of those drivers to break up that 31 point cluster as well
27:13We need some breakaways here
27:15This is really going to be a big event
27:17In terms of Thierry needs to catch Elvin
27:19Kala needs to come out of that pack
27:21Taka really wants to get his first win
27:23Especially after what happened in Kenya
27:25He sort of wants to save him
27:26You know, maybe make up a bit for what he lost there
27:29So there is all out war this weekend
27:32In terms of the battle for the crews
27:34And it's going to be one spectacular weekend
27:36With us now though, Jenny
27:37The fans are filling up
27:38The sun is fully down
27:39Now darkness is around us
27:41As the atmosphere keeps on building
27:43It's such a...
27:44Do you know what this reminds me?
27:45I haven't actually been to an opening ceremony for ages
27:47I'm normally stuck in the commentary box
27:48That's nothing against Bex and PK by the way
27:50Who are going to be commentating shortly
27:52But it's brilliant
27:54And honestly, just behind us there
27:56There's thousands and thousands of fans
27:58And this reminds me a little bit
28:00Of the opening ceremonies in Mexico
28:02They were in Guanajuato
28:04It's incredible
28:05And like I said
28:06It is going to be like this
28:07On the stages
28:08Throughout the weekend
28:09So yeah, I think it's going to be
28:11I honestly think it's going to be one of the best rallies of the year
28:12Really
28:13Yeah, indeed
28:14Now obviously we've been coming here for ERC
28:16But it will be the first time for the WRC to be here as well
28:19So it's really exciting for the locals
28:21Because this really is rallying country as well
28:23Of course, Carlos Sainz
28:24So famous here
28:25And it's really nice for them to be able to see the WRC cars
28:28Alright, let's have a look at those overall championship standings for you
28:33And the schedule for you
28:34Which is coming up over the next few days
28:37So Friday
28:38We've got three and three in terms of the stages
28:42It's a very early start
28:44We'll be in the studio at 7.45
28:46It's six stages for you
28:478.03, 9.49 and 11.25
28:4911.25 are the first of the three there
28:51They are then repeated in the afternoon
28:53It's long old days
28:54Now Friday is not even the longest day in terms of kilometers
28:57Yes, we've got the longest stage
28:58It's that opening stage
28:59But Saturday is the longest day in terms of our kilometers out there
29:03And you also see the super special creeping in as well
29:07So 7, 8 and 9 in the morning
29:08And it's repeated in the afternoon
29:10But then you see stage 13 as the Las Palmas super special
29:14You'll see some really incredible scenery throughout those stages on Saturday as well
29:18And we'll scoot over to Sunday as well
29:20Just to give you an idea
29:21There is no service
29:23It is all our battle from the morning from 8.10 right the way through until 1 o'clock for the Wolf of Power Stage
29:30Those stages are run in succession 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18
29:36And then myself and Shelley will be with you to wrap up what will be an absolutely epic rally
29:41But we can't think about Sunday
29:42It's only Thursday
29:43It's all still to play for
29:45Yeah, like we said
29:46It's going a long, long weekend ahead for the drivers
29:49And it's as well the temperatures as well
29:51It gets to over 60 degrees inside the car
29:53It's hard on the cars
29:54It's hard on the co-drivers
29:55It's a very, very busy rally
29:57And as I said, the temperatures get up
29:59So it's very physical on the drivers
30:00The other thing I want to say before we throw to the meet the crews
30:03The WRC2 category is going to be on fire this weekend
30:07We've got a massive field of WRC2 drivers
30:09So that is going to be something that's going to be absolutely electric over the next few days as well
30:12And some really interesting drivers joining us
30:14They can select their rallies
30:15And it's interesting who's selected here
30:17Alright, well while that noise behind us
30:19You'll know that meet the crews is about to start
30:21So let's hand over and start listening to our drivers
30:24Who are going to be competing this weekend
30:32Grab a seat, any seat boys
30:34You haven't got a microphone, that's okay?
30:37Luis, are you there? Yes? Perfect
30:40Perfect
30:42We've got another colleague here
30:44Digo Rulova is coming with us as well
30:46Yes, okay
30:53We always do this just before we start off a ceremony
30:56We want to know what's happening everywhere
30:59Now we're all here
31:01Now we're all here
31:02Emil, we're going to start with you actually
31:04So if one of you could hand the microphone down to Emil
31:06We're going to start with him
31:08Emil Lindholm, WRC2 Champion 2022
31:12How are you feeling ahead of your first rally of the season?
31:16I'm feeling good
31:18I can tell you we've been waiting for this rally for quite some time
31:22It's ummm
31:24More than half a year since we lasted the rally with Reto
31:26So it's been a long wait
31:28But finally the wait is over
31:39There's obviously a lot of competition in WRC2
31:42Especially with some of the locals even sitting beside you
31:45Know this like the back of their hand
31:48How will you navigate through the weekend?
31:51Well, to be honest I've seen some on boards from the locals
31:55And they go fast, I've seen
31:57So let's say we've tried to learn as much as we can from them
32:01And then yeah, I mean focus on our own race
32:04It's a three day proper rally
32:07But one thing is for sure
32:09The Canarian roads are really really nice
32:11So we will enjoy them for sure
32:13Thank you very much Emil
32:27A big applause for Emil
32:33Efren, welcome to Gran Canaria
33:272022 ERC champion, ASOS on this rally, three podiums finished, WRC debuts.
33:34How difficult will it be to be a team manager and a driver this weekend?
33:42En espanol or?
33:43En ingles, venga.
33:44Yeah, it will be for sure very challenging.
33:47I mean, I had no time, even I had no time to prepare the rally, but yeah, let's focus on the pace notes.
33:52Let's see, for sure it's quite a challenge, but we will enjoy it at least.
34:07How important is it to have a federation support to get to WRC?
34:11Esa escalera natural, cuanto es importante?
34:14Yeah, for sure.
34:15Rally Team Spain is supporting us since a lot of years.
34:18It's for sure one of the best support that they have.
34:24I mean, it's really important for when ASN that they support drivers, especially if they are young.
34:32For sure we have Alejandro Cachón, Ruy Lova, we have Asin here.
34:37So let's try to enjoy that.
34:40And also I think in Spain we have a lot of really good drivers, so we'll be challenged.
35:00Luis Monzón is ready.
35:03Luis, this is a dream come true for you.
35:06You've worked a lot to make this rally in international.
35:11And for this weekend, you're going to have great fun with the WRC event.
35:15How proud are you to be in this moment?
35:57He's very proud. He's like a child now.
35:59But he's been a long work, a long way to get here.
36:01But he would like to have a good result for the team
36:04and for all the fans that are waiting to have a good time with us.
36:18What's good memories do you have of this rally?
36:2134 times having you.
36:45So he's guessing at me also, he sometimes doesn't remember
36:48but he's had very good memories, bad memories
36:51but the resume is, he's very proud for being here.
36:54And hopefully this weekend will be a good weekend for you.
37:02Gracias, Luis.
37:06Diego Rilova, welcome.
37:08¿Cómo estás, amigo mío? Bienvenido a Gran Canaria.
37:17Bueno, Diego, it's our Spanish drive of the Supercell last year.
37:23He did a very good championship.
37:24he's had the opportunity with Citroën Spain to be in the WRC.
37:37I suppose it's been very long before you've been waiting
37:40to start up the first round of WRC.
37:43What do you expect?
38:01It's been very long to get to this rally.
38:03It's been waiting all these months.
38:05It's got a good opportunity.
38:07It's going to be in WRC.
38:08It's going to really go for it.
38:10but he's very proud as well of his team and for the team of Citroën.
38:14Diego, would you like to say anything in English?
38:16Algo en inglés?
38:17So, so.
38:18So, so.
38:18Yeah, bueno.
38:19Un poquitito sobre el rutómetro que has encontrado.
38:21These roads are incredible.
38:26The atmosphere of this rally is another level
38:30and I'm living my dream
38:32and tomorrow we'll start the Real Rally.
38:36And how to finish on the podium on Sunday.
38:39¿Te faltó de eso?
38:40Que ojalá termine en el podio el domingo.
38:42¿Te faltó de eso?
38:43Un aplauso muy fuerte para Diego Ruilova.
38:46A big applause for Diego.
38:47Mr. Rogelio Peñazzi.
38:53We're moving on to you.
38:55Obviously, co-driver to Dominguez.
38:58You're a local to the island.
38:59An ambassador for rally.
39:01Monte Carlo was your 500th rally start.
39:05What an impressive number that is.
39:09Obviously, what does it mean to you
39:10to be an ambassador for the rally?
39:14Hello.
39:15Well, so the rally will be difficult for us
39:19because the first time of the Diego
39:22in the tournament with the rally too.
39:25But I know the shortcuts
39:26and it's possible that he can go fast.
39:30Obviously, with 500 rally starts,
39:39you know the calendars pretty well.
39:39How does this rally compare to any others
39:41on the WRC calendar?
39:43He's asking how could we compare this rally
39:48with the rest of the rally in the world?
39:52Canarias with the rest of the rally in the world?
39:56He's asking how could we compare this rally
39:59with the rest of the rally in the world?
40:00Bagaimana kita bisa compare Rally dengan Rally World Rally?
40:06Untuk saya, saya benar-benar.
40:22Before this rally we had Kenya, and now it's totally different, and after it's Portugal, it's the WRC.
40:31And obviously we know that there'll be a lot of fans out there this weekend standing on the stages, ready to watch you go by.
40:38What would you like to say to those fans in terms of a safety aspect?
40:42In Spanish.
40:51In Spanish, yeah.
40:53Well, the fans will tell you that they'll be placed as best as possible, that we take care of our rally, that it has costed a lot to get here.
41:01And that we'll be placed in safe places, high, in the corners of the curves, never in the red buttons.
41:09And that if we see someone badly placed, we'll be able to relocate him, and that we'll have the best rally in the world and show that we're the best aficion in the world.
41:20That's applause for them.
41:22For that, we've got to be, we've got to use our heads, and be in good places, respect everything, and have a good rally.
41:30Absolutely agree.
41:32Thank you very much.
41:33A big round of applause for Mr. Peñate.
41:36And Arthur, we're moving on to you, lastly but not least, from WRC3. Obviously, you won WRC3 in Monte, your second equal in WRC3 standings at the moment. So, you know, having done the recce in the last few days, does this rally suit you?
41:58Hello, everybody. Our first time, like you say, in WRC was at Monte Carlo. It was a perfect week. In French, we say the first was the best. I hope the second was too. So, we work hard on this race, on this race.
42:20I hope we will be ready, but other crew are here to go fast, of course, but we will see.
42:32And are you feeling much pressure after, you know, the great success in Monte?
42:50Yes, pressure, but before pressure, I think we have to do pleasure.
42:56And our final question. What do you think about the evolution of the car on the WRC3s?
43:02I think it's gonna... we're gonna have more place in the championship, so it's a good evolution, of course.
43:12Well, we've asked for the evolution, evidently, of the WRC3s as a car. The evolution is very good. It has its place and its capacity, especially, to fight in this beautiful championship.
43:23Arthur Bonchance, best of luck this weekend. Guys, a big round of applause to all of our Meet the Cruise drivers and the best of luck for this weekend's rally.
43:32We wish you all the luck of the world. We greet you with a very strong applause. Thank you guys.
43:38If you don't mind leaving your microphones on your chairs.
43:41Very good. We leave the microphones on the table. We're about to put this in place.
43:46We're at 3 minutes to start. Three minutes to start our ceremony.
43:52Thank you.
