00:00Scott, thank you for joining us. In many senses we've done exactly what we can but there was
00:09obviously a tiny bit of heartbreak at the end there as Burton stole the lead away. Can
00:14I get your thoughts on that first? Yeah, just kind of highs and lows of emotions when the
00:21crowd cheered for Cambridge's goal. It was kind of like happiness and then we
00:32go in the dressing room and say yeah it's 1-all, there's only a couple of
00:34minutes left and then we come back out to applaud the crowd as it's our last home
00:41game and I see one of the supporters behind the goal going like that to me
00:46and I thought wow they've gone and scored and I turned around to you actually
00:53and said have they scored and you said yeah so yeah just eyes and lows
00:56emotionally it was like a hell of a skeller you know up and down with it so yeah
01:01just disappointed really you know after we've done so well in the game played so
01:07so well really proud of how the players have been however as negative as this
01:13feels now we're mathematically still in it with a game to go and the fact that I
01:21come in with nine games to go with 12 points behind the fact that we've done
01:25this is amazing in itself and I'm really proud of the players you know we've just
01:32got a hope that you know the results go our way Tuesday night and the results go
01:37our way Saturday and we have to put a lot of goals in next Saturday so it's still
01:42possible and I've just told the players that we're not down in tools until until
01:48the final balls kicked and then you can go on your holidays and let's see where we
01:51are but I'm really proud of certainly how we've been you know since I've come in I
01:57think players have put a real shift in and you look at them you look at the form
02:03since I've been here four wins out of out of eight it's 50% win ratio that's like
02:09top top of the table kind of form the goals we've scored I think we scored like on
02:15ratio more goals and probably the team at the top of the division four clean
02:21sheets so I'm really proud of what we've done we've just done it too late but we
02:28still like to say we're still in it yeah it must be an immense sense of pride in
02:32many respects as you say the deficit that we were facing when you came in was
02:36obviously so big and also an immense sense of pride for the players because
02:39they've handled themselves you know the last game and today as well you know
02:42really really well a very very professional performance and you know
02:45under different circumstances we'd be sitting here saying what a victory
02:48wouldn't we but it's hard to to fight that negative feeling but the players
02:51handled themselves well yeah they did oh I said kind of on Thursday in my press
02:55that all we can do is look after our games and whatever happens away from here
02:59we can't we can't do anything about you know we can't affect that all we can do
03:03is affect our two games that we've got in front of us and we've won one we've
03:08just got to go and win the next war obviously we've got to find out what
03:11happens Tuesday night with Burton and yeah listen ultimately we're still there
03:20we're still in it I know it's a lot of things have got to happen in our favour but
03:24we are mathematically still still in it with the game to go so I'm not down in
03:28tools neither are my players but yeah I'm really proud of the players I think
03:32they've they've given everything they've looked tired at times I think the
03:37Stevenage game I thought we we looked tired in that game which is why we
03:41probably dropped points the people again we were we went for it and kind of they
03:45end up costing us you know and I think the players couldn't give me any more than
03:52they've given me they've been brilliant in training they've been really
03:55professional around the place you wouldn't think and I've been in the game
03:58all my life you wouldn't think that this is a relegation team you won't think that
04:02the way we train the way we behave you won't think that you know that the
04:08atmosphere around the place is always really bubbly and bright which I make that
04:12I make sure that it is and yeah I'm just disappointed but ultimately if we do go
04:19down it's because we haven't been good enough over the course of a season so
04:22usually where where you finish is where you should finish you know yeah
04:26regardless of what happens next week there must be plenty of players out
04:29there that you've been impressed with especially since you've come in and you
04:32know there's players that before you came in weren't even necessarily in the
04:36picture that have now made up you know a great case to yourself to regardless of
04:40what division we end up in you know be playing next year yeah for sure
04:43definitely I think you look at Gav Ula and he's a prime example of what you've
04:47just said I think he was just immense today I mean I ain't got a clue what
04:51distance he covered but he covered every blade of grass today he was brilliant you
04:56know and I'm so pleased for Gav because he's been a brilliant pro since I've been in
05:00really conducted himself well and he was amazing I thought Max Anderson as well
05:04was very good today you know I could name all the team they were all brilliant you
05:08know what I mean so I don't want to single players out they were all really good
05:12today but like in terms of what you've just asked me he is an example of that
05:16you know he's found himself in the team and I think he's done great in the games
05:21I really do so yeah we we just have to dust ourselves down prepare again and go
05:30again and just see see what happens yeah on that note how pleased are you that
05:35obviously you touched on it a bit at the start of the interview but how pleased are
05:38you that we've taken it to the final day not obviously just for yourself for the
05:41players but for the fans as well because you know at least we weren't down and out
05:45like we you know many thought we were you know when you came in yeah I'm really
05:49pleased for the fans because it gives them a little bit of hope and I want to see a
05:54big number of them up at Shrewsbury next week I really do I think that well let's
06:01see what happens Tuesday night with Burton first but it'd be great if if we could go to
06:06Shrewsbury knowing that we've got a number that we've got to score and we're still in
06:11it that'd be great and I want the fans to come and enjoy that you know and let's go
06:14for it if we if we have to if that is the position we find ourselves in but now the fans
06:19it's pleasing for the fans that we've we've made it we've made it exciting it's not just
06:25petered out to nothing we've actually made it exciting which is what as a football manager
06:30you want your fans to feel like that anyway you know so yeah pleased for that but we're still
06:35in there we're still fighting
06:36just on the uh Tuesday night game I know we sort of talked about it off camera the other day
06:44but is it a bit frustrating that Burton have got that game in hand now yeah it's crazy I didn't
06:49think you were allowed yeah the FA seemed to make rules up as we go along because I remember
06:54over the course of me being a manager I've kind of requested games to be in that final week and
07:00it's always been a no um and yeah I don't understand it no it should have been weeks ago
07:08um I don't know when the game was called off I think it was February I think how is it how is it
07:14the last week then yeah it's just it's just not right yeah in my opinion it seems unfair doesn't
07:19it it's just yeah of course yeah it's just no one else has been allowed to do it so why why are they
07:26yeah but there you go and it's quite an emotional day today obviously we had the news of Ken Blackmore
07:32this week passing away um are you proud that you were able to put in a put your players around for
07:38a performance like that for people like Ken who help out with it yeah it was emotional wasn't it
07:43before the game the minutes applause you know are especially looking at his um pictures on the far
07:49side on the scoreboard Ken was a great guy you know a brilliant person I loved seeing him kind of
07:55shuffling around the the corridors or you know in the stadium here and great great guy and it was
08:01pleasing for me as the manager to to take the football club to Wembley uh last season because
08:06obviously it's the first time they've gone there and for Ken to to be involved in that was brilliant
08:10from from my point of view um and yeah it was a a fitting performance like you say um um for Ken so
08:19yeah um quite emotional but before the game for sure yeah and with a little bit of regret you couldn't
08:25have scored a few more goals today because you had so many chances didn't they yeah big big regret
08:29you know we were we're pushing the players forward we had a lot of big chances didn't we you know
08:34Ruchan went through on a number of occasions where you know on another day he probably scores and
08:40I think Jeremy Kelly at the bar then tried to dive on the seconds of it and you know there's more
08:45chances as well weren't there there's a couple that flashed across the face of goal and yeah we it was
08:51disappointed we didn't score more um but I'm proud of the performance there I thought we played really
08:56well thought we deserved to win I thought we were the better side I thought almost like a perfect
09:00performance in many ways because when you look at the amount of chances you create certainly in the
09:05second half not so much in the first half um possession was good um xg against was was good
09:11um and you go and score goals so you know I can't ask more um yeah it was good performance just kind
09:20of like the emotions of of what went on kind of in the last moments just crazy and yeah it's just
09:28football in it you know it's got a real nasty habit of kicking you in the teeth it really has but we we
09:33we fight on we fight on excellent thanks Scott thank you cool
09:36it's never easy relegation Scott you may well look back and think well you came in with nine games
09:48just another one or two you could have made all the with this four could have made all the difference
09:54yeah but you can't you can't say just another one or two I've got 50% win ratio like what you can't
10:02it's like that's top end of the table form do you know what I mean I can't do any more the players
10:07can't do any more like it's already saying one or two more we've done great you know like it should
10:14have been one or two more early on in the season not in the last nine games to a 50% win ratio with
10:18you know in the in the last nine games we've still got one more to play by the way
10:23is amazing but it should have been one or two more early on in the season not now
10:28yeah and it's not played in the last few weeks as you say no it's just the whole season
10:31the whole season and you end up where you should end up and that's it you know I think I've
10:37by next week I'd have been in charge of 15 games this season
10:41and I've won six of them already do you know what I mean so if we win next week that'd be seven so
10:47I'll be not far short of 50% again which is good form from a manager's point of view in terms of win
10:53ratio so I've done my bit I think do you know I mean whatever went on before me went on I can't
11:00comment on that's nothing to do with me and the trick is to carry it on into next season that's
11:04why I want to go to Shrewsbury and win next week because wherever we end up whatever division we
11:09end up in we have to become winners so next week is important we win and we win well and we play well
11:15because that's what I want from my team thank you Scott obviously I know you mentioned the win
11:24ratio and there's been a lot of positivity about not just today but other performances recently
11:28is there a frustration amongst the group given the upturner form that they are in this position
11:32and obviously that they've shown that they can more than compete
11:35so
