00:00As part of this year's Balikatan exercises, the decommissioned World War II-era corvette,
00:05once considered the most decorated warship in the Philippine Navy,
00:09the old BRP Miguel Malvar is set to be used as a target and sunk during the joint military drills.
00:16The vessel, originally a United States Navy ship from the 1940s,
00:20also served under Republic of Vietnam Navy before it was turned over to the Philippine Navy in the 1970s.
00:27The Philippine Navy admitted that it is saddened by the decision to make the old BRP Miguel Malvar a target in the exercise,
00:34given the vessel's rich and storied history.
00:37However, the Navy also considers the move symbolic,
00:41representing the modernization and evolving capabilities of the country's naval forces.
