As the analogue landline switch off approaches (January 2027), we asked the UK public about the old technology they would like to see return.
Transcript
00:00No, we don't have a landline. I haven't had a landline probably for the last 10
00:04years to be honest. Obviously do at work. But no, we don't have a landline.
00:10Tech from my youth. Well, my parents seem to hoard everything so I've still got
00:15my old boombox that my mum and dad's house. They've still got one of them
00:19phones? They've still got a proper old phone that you put your finger in and you're in.
00:24I don't own any but my parents certainly own a lot of old technology.
00:29Don't use the house phone anymore. It is there. You just get nuisance
00:34calls on it and that's it. Don't use it at all. Bring back writing letters and meeting
00:42up to have like a little fun time where conversations can be held instead of
00:47having conversations over the phone. I think mobile technology now has taken
00:51over so much of face-to-face conversation, meet and greet, fun times on the park and
00:56stuff like that. So bring back those times.
01:00Haven't had a landline probably for five or six years.
01:02Just never got used. Do want to reintroduce one. It's probably pretty
01:05good for emergency purposes.
01:07I don't personally use it. But people, businesses, NHS and people like that call us on our landline.
01:14The only people who rang it for about three years were telemarketers and no one else.
01:20So we got rid of it. We no longer have it.
01:23Still got one, but probably when the next contract comes up, we'll get rid of it.
01:28In terms of technology that I'd like to see make a comeback, I'm a bit partial to VHS to be honest with you.
01:35It's just, it's one of those things. Everything is streamed now and I've never had a VHS have to buffer before or DVDs.
01:44But it's just, it's just streaming. When the internet's down, I think a lot of us would be stuck for entertainment.
01:50And the only thing I think that I'd like to see return, I'm still a fan of CDs and so I miss having CD slots on the computer.
