00:0095.7 The Game, Breaking News.
00:06The 2024-2025 NBA Defensive Player of the Year is...
00:16Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
00:25It is not Draymond Green.
00:27Stand on it!
00:30Or sit down.
00:32Either one is fine.
00:33But there it is.
00:35The Defensive Player of the Year.
00:37And all of the work, quite frankly, that Draymond and, to a degree, the Warriors did
00:42in somewhat campaigning for this down the stretch over the last month and a half or so.
00:47He was a finalist.
00:48He was in the top three.
00:50I haven't seen the final vote.
00:51He probably came in second.
00:53Dyson Daniels second, according to Mark Grandy.
00:55Dyson Daniels second.
00:56Okay, so Draymond comes in third.
00:58Yep.
00:58And Evan Mobley is the winner of the 2024-25 NBA DPOY.
01:06I'm not shocked.
01:07I know you're not.
01:08You told me a week ago you didn't think he was going to win.
01:10And it's because of the reality of not only the voters, because I mentioned last week that
01:16not every voter sees what we see, which is Draymond Green guarding one through five.
01:21And you look at, I think, a lot of voters who don't watch every dribble of every game of every team.
01:28When you're going to vote on something like this, you look to the top of the standings first.
01:33And you look at a team that did really well.
01:35Good point.
01:35And you think, how were they on defense?
01:38Cleveland pretty good on defense.
01:39And then you find a player on that team who's a good defender.
01:43And you think, okay, that player probably deserves it.
01:47Nikola Jokic should win the MVP.
01:49He's not going to.
01:50It's going to go to Shea Gilgis-Alexander because Shea Gilgis-Alexander was on a 68-win team.
01:56He had a great year.
01:58But if you want to look at, like, the year versus the year and take the records out of it,
02:02I think that you can give it to Jokic.
02:04I get where you're coming from.
02:06There is a debate on this.
02:08I personally believe the Nuggets are going to be a first round out.
02:11So, at a certain point, when you look at value, you're like, value toward what?
02:15You know what I mean?
02:16Especially when you're Jokic and you've set a bar that is as high as the championship.
02:20He's done it before.
02:21So, I understand where we're coming from here.
02:24That's a true debate.
02:26Shea Gilgis-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, that'll be days from now.
02:29But there it is.
02:31Evan Mobley is the defensive player of the year.
02:35I think your point is a good one as far as why this comes down the way it does.
02:40Because if you do want to stick it into a vacuum and just think about it, and let's be real,
02:45we're all watching Draymond on a nightly basis and we're not watching Evan Mobley.
02:49Like, you're not that much of a league pass, Larry.
02:52Like, you don't watch all of the Cavaliers games.
02:55Maybe some of you do, but most of you don't.
02:58I've certainly not seen nearly as many Cavaliers games this year as I've watched Warriors.
03:02So, I'm able to experience right in front of us the brilliance that Draymond Green often brings to the table.
03:11But the other two people who were finalists were also in the play-in tournament.
03:16And Cleveland is over here as the one seed.
03:18Yep.
03:18I'm with you.
03:20That matters.
03:21If somebody is even kind of even on those two things, that can be a tiebreaker for sure.
03:28And it also comes down to human beings making the decision on who they want to vote for.
03:34And if you're a human being and you don't watch every defensive shuffle or every defensive stop of every player and it comes down to a popularity contest of some sort and you think about Draymond Green, maybe you as a human voter, you don't care for Draymond Green.
03:52And that may factor into it.
03:55I look forward to hearing from Anthony Slater when he joins the morning roast for his next appearance because I know that he was a voter for Defensive Player of the Year.
04:04And I'm sure he'll be transparent about who he voted for and exactly why he made the decision that he made.
04:10Okay.
04:11So, there are – am I accurate here?
04:13There's 100 voters.
04:14Is that right?
04:15I think it's exactly 100.
04:16I'm doing a quick tally.
04:1835 and 15 is 50, 25, 75 plus 20.
04:22Yes, there's 100 voters.
04:24You've seen the vote breakdown?
04:25I've got the vote now right here in front of me.
04:26Oh, already.
04:26Okay.
04:26I've got the vote in front of me.
04:28How many of the 100 voters would you guess voted Draymond Green first place?
04:34Of the 100?
04:35100 voters.
04:36I would say 17.
04:38Really good guess.
04:39Oh.
04:40I didn't give him a plus minus.
04:41Just give me the buzzer.
04:43It's become my happy place.
04:44No, give him a ding.
04:44Give him a ding.
04:45Just buzz that man.
04:46Except for he did over a bit, so give him a buzzer.
04:48I give it to him.
04:49Price is right for him.
04:49There you go.
04:50Okay.
04:50Oh, yeah.
04:5115.
04:5215 first place votes for Draymond Green.
04:5525 first place votes for Dyson Daniels.
04:5835 first place votes go to Evan Mobley.
05:0335, 25, 15.
05:0615.
05:07Yeah.
05:07Wow.
05:07That's 75 of the 100.
05:0975 of the 100 votes went to those three players.
05:12Lou Dort got 11.
05:14Amen Thompson got nine.
05:18He was fifth.
05:21Zubats.
05:21Oh, yeah.
05:22With the Clippers got four.
05:23And then Giannis got a vote from some wackadoodle who lives in Milwaukee, I'm sure.
05:28But anyway, total points when you add up the second place and the third place votes.
05:32Evan Mobley, 285.
05:34Dyson Daniels, 197.
05:36Draymond Green, 154.
05:38So, he did not win and quite frankly was really not that close to winning.
05:42Didn't even get second.
05:44Not in, but the record לא.
05:44Didn't even get one?
05:45Believe it.
05:45No.
05:46Listen.
05:46Cheers.
05:46Listen.
05:46Hi.
05:47How are you going?
05:47Going to end?
05:48I'm going to end this discussion.
05:49I'm so glad you're doing.
05:50Doing that so.
05:50You've got another channel that's connected.
05:52Subsequence.
05:52It's just a good day when Charlie predicted the padro may begin, but when the camera would
05:53theיפ.
05:54This will be heavily on it.
05:55There's so much button to the table and a moment to the Sono.
