During a press briefing on Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) was asked about what Democrats need to do to regain Congress in the 2026 midterms.
Transcript
00:00What do Democrats need to do to win back the majority?
00:03Is there an approval rating nationally right now?
00:05It's not that great.
00:06Well, having a unified message is tough when you don't have a candidate for president or a president.
00:12It's kind of a chorus instead of an individual that you focus on for that purpose.
00:17But we will be unified in our message, and the person who will unify us is Donald Trump.
00:21Let me tell you, that trade war that he has initiated in the United States is going to be devastating to the state of Illinois.
00:27Go to the Farm Bureau and ask to meet with them privately.
00:31They don't want to speak publicly about this.
00:33And ask them what it will mean if we go through with tariffs on their exports.
00:37Go to the CEOs of corporations who called me and told me they were desperate to make a decision on their future,
00:42but they couldn't make it because of the prospect of the tariffs.
00:46He's creating a devastating economy, and that is the starting point of our election campaign.
