00:00Now, Mohamed Kudus arrived at West Ham with big expectations after an impressive previous season.
00:10But this campaign has been a different story.
00:13His dip in form has raised questions about his long-term future with the Hammers.
00:18I spoke to James Jones of London World to discuss the situation,
00:21and it's clear Kudus' drop in performance this season has been a concern.
00:26After a strong start, he struggled to make a consistent impact,
00:30falling to replicate the flair and influence that made him such an exciting prospect last year.
00:37While his versatility remains an asset,
00:39the Ghanaian international struggles in front of goal and consistency
00:44have led to doubts about his role in the team moving forward.
00:48As Graham Potter and West Ham plan for the big summer rebuild,
00:51could he play a part in his future at the club,
00:55with some questioning if he still fits into the club's long-term vision?
00:59As the season winds down, Kudus faces a crucial period to prove he deserves to stay at West Ham
01:05or risk becoming part of a summer exodus.
01:08Yeah, another player, another superstar in West Ham's team who's shown he's got those levels.
01:17Mohamed Kudus, he's obviously fallen a bit short this season.
01:20Yes, it's obviously, you know, you've got to give these players a bit of leeway.
01:24When you have a managerial switch, it is quite tough to carry on that form
01:27if there's completely different tactics and stuff like that going off the pitch as well.
01:32In terms of his impact at West Ham, before we get on to his future,
01:36you know, how special can he be on his day?
01:38How much has he captured the love of the fans, especially in his debut season?
01:42He was pretty untouchable in terms of his output.
01:48Oh, yeah, I mean, last season he was fantastic.
01:51You know, we couldn't believe that we've only managed to sign him for less than £40 million.
01:55It was almost, you know, how on earth have we managed to get a player like this for so cheap?
02:01You know, 20 goal involvements in, I think it was 50 games or something like that
02:05for a player in his maiden season in England.
02:08His goal against Freiburg in the Europa League was nominated for the Pruskas Award,
02:13the solo goal.
02:15He had a fantastic season.
02:16It kind of set up for a lot of expectation going into this season.
02:20You know, a new manager, a great first season.
02:24You know, he's going to be the player.
02:25He's going to be the player that's going to really drive us forward.
02:28And it just hasn't worked for him this season.
02:30You know, he's gone from having 20 goal involvements to just six this season,
02:35three goals and three assists.
02:37And he just hasn't really been consistent enough, hasn't really got going.
02:42He has had a few distractions and a few frustrations in international duty.
02:46Obviously, Ghana are failing to qualify for AFCON.
02:49He got a lot of flack for that in his home country.
02:53Got a lot of blame for that.
02:54And, you know, after that happened, he came back and saw that red card against Tottenham last year.
03:01So he's had a lot of frustrations away from West Ham this season,
03:04which perhaps has kind of led to him not being at his very best.
03:09But there have been moments this season where he has been unplayable.
03:12Again, a little bit like Paqueta against Liverpool.
03:14He had a really, really good game against Liverpool.
03:18And that's, as a result, that's led to a lot of links with him moving away.
03:21So on his day, very much like Paqueta, he's a wonderful player and a great talent to have in the squad.
03:30It's just his lack of consistency, especially this season.
03:35So hopefully, if we can get him back to his very best between now and the end of the season, at least,
03:40then, you know, that's incredibly important for the final six games.
03:44But no doubt, regardless of his form this year, regardless of his lack of output, his lack of numbers,
03:51there will be no doubt a lot of interest in him this summer.
03:55I wouldn't be surprised if the club are considering selling him because of just the sheer amount of money that we could get for his services.
04:04It's a little bit different with Paqueta and his valuation.
04:07So they're probably looking at those two players with big valuations and going,
04:12Kouris is probably the one that we can guarantee a nice fee for.
04:16And it's been revealed over the last week that he's got his release clause is actually tiers.
04:20I think it's £85 million for Premier League and European clubs.
04:23But if a Saudi club wants him, they need to pay £120 million.
04:26So, yeah, it'd be disappointing to see him go because we know how good he can be on his day.
04:34But, you know, those sort of fees flying around for a player that hasn't had the best season,
04:39it's difficult to really turn your nose up at it.
