The Sheffield Ski Village was set on fire this week - again. The Star asked members of the public what should be done with the derelict attraction and if they have any memories of it in its heyday.
Transcript
00:00Thank you, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star. We're no more than asking people what they'd like to see done with the Ski Village.
00:05It caught fire again yesterday for perhaps the hundredth time in the past 15 years.
00:10Do you have any memories of the Ski Village?
00:13Well, we never went ourselves, did we? My daughter went on a school trip and she had a bit of an accident getting off.
00:21But she's okay now. But yeah, it'd be nice if we could make some sort of sports facility with it.
00:28Sports facility, yeah.
00:30Yeah, I knew that it obviously was a great facility for people who went.
00:33But then it's supposed to think those days I had problems and they tried to get some of the plans going on.
00:37It's never quite taken off.
00:39We used to run around there when we were running across country races around there and that was good.
00:43So maybe we wanted some sport facilities because the terrain's ideal out there.
00:48Yeah, it's bring it back to life.
00:50I never went to the Ski Village. Me and my friend were literally talking about this actually a month ago.
00:56We were just very fun about it and then saying that he used to go up.
00:59He was also saying it's a great view in sport, but never been. Partly because it's always been on fire.
01:04Yeah, that's a bit of a joke for that one. I don't know if you've got any thoughts about what you see it renovated as.
01:09It's probably skiing in general, but I don't know how much is of much use to many people in Sheffield going skiing.
01:15I don't have a whole lot of knowledge on skiing, never been, but saying that it would also be quite cool to see if we had like a ski ranger going down.
01:22I watched an exploring video of someone going there like two weeks ago and like going around there.
01:28It's a shame to see it's a fire, but I don't know what can you do with it.
01:32It's a part of Sheffield history. I think that's what we want to be, like Sheffield history.
01:38Yeah, we do.
01:39Do you want me to ask how old you are, sorry?
01:40I'm just playing it now.
01:41Does it mean very much at all to your age group? Does it come up at all or is it just this thing that's lost to time?
01:46Lost in time because, like I said, I've never been to it, so I have nothing to put the memory back to.
01:52I have no recollection of it. Like I said, it would be a cool thing for Sheffield to have. It's completely different.
01:59But again, how many times are you going to go skiing? I guess it's kind of a one-off thing.
02:05But I have no comment to say because, like I said, I've never been to it, so I wouldn't know until I tried it.
