00:00Hi, baby.
00:15Daddy look good?
00:17Yeah?
00:19No?
00:20I think I look great.
00:21Hi, yi, yi, yi.
00:25Love you.
00:26Tell me.
00:30Good afternoon, Ian.
00:34How are you doing?
00:34I'm good.
00:35How are you?
00:35It's fight week.
00:36Yeah, so, you know, obviously you're coming off of, you know, that huge fight against
00:40Shavkat.
00:41Now you're facing Carlos Protes.
00:43You had a fight booked against Buckley.
00:45That obviously didn't work out.
00:47But, you know, you've taken these fights against, like, the four biggest killers, like,
00:51consecutively over the past four or five months now.
00:55First off, just what do you think that says about you?
00:58And secondly, how does Carlos stack up against the rest of them?
01:02That just speaks to the character and the person I am.
01:05I'm born and bred in Dublin, Ireland.
01:07We're called the Fighting Irish for a reason.
01:10And I'm just out here putting that on display for the world to see.
01:13When you call me and you say, hey, Ian, do you want to fight?
01:17There's only one answer.
01:18It's only yes.
01:20It doesn't matter to me if it's two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, eight weeks.
01:23It's yes.
01:25And I'll do everything I can to make it possible and make that happen.
01:28And I love to fight.
01:29There's nothing more I love in this world than fighting.
01:31And I'm living my dream right now, fighting the best guys in the world.
01:35I have taken, on short notice, the toughest opponents in the world and the biggest killers
01:40in the division.
01:41And when I become the champion, I will still maintain that because that is the champion
01:45mentality.
01:45It doesn't matter who.
01:46It doesn't matter when.
01:48I want to prove I'm the best against everyone.
01:50And I think Carlos is up there.
01:52I don't think, when you look at my previous opponents, I don't think he's as awkward as
01:58MVP.
01:59I don't think he's as fast as MVP.
02:01I don't think he's as well-rounded as Shavkat.
02:05And I think he's obviously just the awkwardness of it because I'm long and tall.
02:09He doesn't have the stylistic irritation that Jeff Neal does.
02:13So, for me, this is a guy who I can go out there and put on full display that I am just
02:18levels and levels above him.
02:20And I'm excited to do it.
02:22And, you know, I know that you guys had a little bit of back and forth on social media.
02:28You put out a video essentially calling him a quitter because of a previous fight.
02:33And then he responded with a video of his own.
02:36Do you feel like, is this fight personal to you at all?
02:38Or is this just pre-fight hype?
02:40No, I like to do my job and watch my opponents and watch their fights.
02:46And I analyze.
02:47I start to read.
02:47Look, his team is called The Fightiners.
02:49They do the same thing.
02:50But they've never seen a fight where I quit mid-fight.
02:53So, when I seen that, right, he put his hand in the air.
02:56He waved at the ref and said, I'm done.
03:00I have never seen that in MMA.
03:02Now, we're talking about this guy being one of the baddest men in the division.
03:04You know, 10-fight knockouts.
03:05Well, let's show the true Carlos Pratchett's as well.
03:07So, when the going gets tough, he quits.
03:09And on Saturday night, I'm going to put him in that position where he has to make a choice.
03:12And I want him to quit.
03:14He made some comments about, you know, because you both have fought Neil Magny.
03:18How he's on a four-fight knockout streak where a lot of your fights have gone to decision lately.
03:23What do you attribute that to?
03:25Neil Magny's soul is in my back pocket as we speak right now.
03:29He has never been the same since I fought him.
03:30So, good job.
03:32You did a good job against a guy you're better than.
03:34Congratulations.
03:35I'm not Neil Magny.
03:36And if you watch the fight against Neil Magny, you know I can do just the same things you did, if not better.
03:41I'm faster.
03:42I'm more talented.
03:43I'm more technical than this guy.
03:45This guy's a one-trick pony.
03:46He's got a left hand.
03:47He's got a left knee.
03:48And he's got a left leg.
03:49They're all on one side.
03:50I've got everything I need.
03:52I can beat him everywhere for every second of this fight.
03:54And that's my plan on Saturday night.
03:57Curious what your thoughts are.
03:58You know, he's known for, Carlos is known for smoking cigarettes and taking shots.
04:02I know that you're really into your health and your diet and things like that.
04:05What are your thoughts on Carlos smoking cigarettes?
04:09Do you think it affects his cardio?
04:11Look, the dude smokes American cigarettes, drinks Irish whiskey.
04:15Meanwhile, I'm in Brazil having GuaranĂ¡, Acai, and Paso Quinta.
04:19I'm more Brazilian than this guy is.
04:21Do you know what I mean?
04:21So I'm not only this.
04:23I've got his whole country wanting me to win.
04:25And I think that's just, look, that's his life choices.
04:28I'm not going to, that's nothing for me to get involved in.
04:30Do you know what I mean?
04:31He can do whatever he wants with his life and we can all sit here and talk about it.
04:34At the end of the day, Saturday night, he's going to step into that octagon with someone
04:37who's a complete professional.
04:38I'm going to manhandle him any way, shape, and form I want.
04:42I will manipulate him and there's nothing he can do to stop me.
04:45I remember after your fight against Daniel Rodriguez, you guys ended up hanging out a little
04:50bit in Miami, I think.
04:51I forget where it was, but you guys became very good friends.
04:54I know that he was helping you a little bit in this camp.
04:56You reached out to him to help sort of emulate a southpaw, if I'm not mistaken, right?
04:59Dude, he helped me for Jeff Neal.
05:02He came and was in my corner.
05:04There's one thing that I think about fighting.
05:07When you share the octagon with another man and you go out there and you prepare yourself
05:12to go out there and become victorious, regardless of what happened, when that cage door opens
05:18after the fight, there's nothing but respect.
05:22Carlos is someone that, like, I love Brazil.
05:25Brazil has a very special part in my heart.
05:27You know what I mean?
05:28I'm here representing Shoot the Box and everything that that team means to me, I love.
05:33But I also want to see all the Brazilians do well.
05:36I love Brazil.
05:38It has a very special part in my soul, in my heart.
05:40I'm very proud to carry them a shadow name, carry my wife's family name.
05:43So for me, I would love to see all the Brazilians do well.
05:47So after this fight, if he ever needs my help, then I'm in.
05:50Because I want to see them all win, but I just don't want to see them do better than me.
05:55I mentioned you hanging out with D-Rod after the fight.
05:58Would you see yourself maybe potentially having an after-fight cigarette with Carlos Protes?
06:04I don't smoke.
06:05Okay.
06:06I don't smoke, so I won't.
06:07But I tell you what, we can sit down and chat about how I knocked him out and I can teach
06:10him how to get a little bit better.
06:11Last one from me, just curious about your thoughts on the fight nerds and just sort
06:17of how they've sort of taken over MMA or become very popular over the past five, six months.
06:21I love them.
06:23I absolutely love them.
06:24I think what they're doing is phenomenal.
06:27The confidence, the attitude in the way they fight, I think it's amazing.
06:31And it takes a special type of attention or personality, like Joan in the last fight, to be able to point
06:41at someone mid-fight, talk to the mid-fight, and then go out there and just completely annihilate
06:45them.
06:46I think they're amazing.
06:47I think they're a team that are doing very well.
06:49And I'm excited to see them unfold.
06:51And I'm excited to see how they go.
06:52My favorite is Huffy.
06:53That guy's style is absolutely beautiful.
06:56Well, I've said it once.
06:57I'll say it again.
06:57It reminds me of an OG, Conor McGregor, the old school.
07:01And you've just, I think they're a team that's doing very well.
07:04But Saturday night, I'm going to end their undefeated streak.
07:06Sorry, one more.
07:07What do you think a win does for you just in terms of like the eyes of the fans?
07:11Because it does seem like fans have sort of started to like warm up to you over the
07:15past year, just from all the fights you've taken.
07:17With a win, do you feel like you're, what do you think that does for you?
07:20When I'm winning Saturday night and I put on the show I'm going to put on against Carlos
07:23Pratchett and I finish him, there is no other option.
07:26I am next.
07:27You take these fights on short notice, you show up, you save the card.
07:32That means I'm next.
07:34And if anyone has a problem, guess what?
07:36I love to fight.
07:37When I win that belt, you can come see me in that octagon.
07:41Just a great question.
07:42What would you like to say to all the fans that they are coming on Saturday night to
07:47watch the fight?
07:48On Saturday night, everyone who's paid money to sit in that arena and everyone who
07:53tunes in at home and watches live is going to see one of the greatest athletes the UFC
07:57has seen in a long, long time.
07:59I'm going to go out there and show why I'm the future of this organization and I'm going
08:03to do it against one of their favorite fighters.
08:05I'm going to dismantle them.
08:07I'm going to show that I'm just better in every single way, shape and form and I'm going
08:10to make it look easy.
08:12Ian, a couple of questions.
08:18First one, you've talked about Carlos quitting mid-fight before.
08:22So it got me curious on Saturdays, your game plan in an ideal world, would you love to go
08:27out and get like a quick knockout or would you really want to drag them into deeper waters
08:31and, you know, potentially simultaneously finish them, but then also prove that point
08:36as well?
08:36Sorry, I hear my coach just say yes in the background.
08:40For me, there's two ways I like it, right?
08:42If I go out and I knock him out in 20 seconds, he has mental excuses.
08:47Oh, it was just, he landed that one shot.
08:50I love fights.
08:51You ever watch GSP, Josh Koscheck?
08:54And everyone's like, Josh Koscheck is the best wrestler we've ever seen.
08:57And what happened?
08:58GSP went out and dominated him.
09:01Josh Koscheck has no excuses in that fight.
09:03But I love a fight where I go out, start to finish, and I dominate.
09:08And there's no way Carlos Pratchett can sit at home and go to bed and go and say anything
09:13else.
09:14But Ian Machado, Gary, is just better in every single way, shape, and form.
09:18Another question.
09:19You know, you talk about wanting to be active.
09:21I mean, you accept pretty much any fight that comes to you.
09:23So hypothetically, if you get through Saturday night with a win, would you be at all interested
09:28if something were to pop up last minute to take the call in a couple of weeks and fight
09:33for the belt?
09:33Or would you need a little bit more time to turn around and potentially get that opportunity?
09:37What if I told you my flights were already booked?
09:42I'm ready.
09:44I'm always ready.
09:45I'm born to fight.
09:46It's what I do, mate.
09:48And last one for me.
09:50You know, as somebody who studies the game like you do, I'm just curious to get your thoughts
09:53on Sean Brady's performance, you know, with his fight with Leon Edwards.
09:55I know that, you know, the Leon Edwards fight was the one that you wanted for a while.
09:59So would Sean Brady be somebody you'd be interested in fighting in the future?
10:02And overall, just what do you think of his performance?
10:04I think he looked great.
10:06I think he did exactly what he needed to do.
10:08I think he's seen what Bilal did against Leon and went, that's the perfect way to beat
10:13him.
10:13He went out and he dominated him from start to finish and he made Leon look like a child.
10:18I think that's a performance you should be very proud of.
10:21But if he ever steps into the octagon with me, I'll knee him in the face and I'll reconstruct
10:24his nose.
10:25Good luck on Saturday.
10:27Appreciate you.
10:27Hello, sir.
10:30First of all, nice to meet you again.
10:31And it will be nice to hear Eric Clapton once again on Saturday night.
10:35I hope it will be.
10:37It will be.
10:37Don't you worry.
10:38That song is never changing.
10:40There's too much love for that one in my life.
10:42And when I hear that Lena song, it makes me think of that.
10:44So I'll always say it.
10:45One of my favorite.
10:46So speaking of the UFC, your only bonus for the performance of the night was at your
10:53the only fight night.
10:55Carlos Pratis has four fights in the UFC and four performances of the night bonuses.
10:59So should we expect the best fight of 2025 so far?
11:04To find the best.
11:09If you want to talk about a one-sided mauling, then yes.
11:13But I don't think he's going to have much to offer for me.
11:15He'll be up here.
11:16He'll sit here confidently and he'll say whatever he wants to say.
11:19And he should say it.
11:20Because he is riding a 10-fight knockout streak.
11:23Shavkat was 18-0 with 18 finishes.
11:24How did that fight go?
11:26I think he left that octagon feeling a lot less of a man than he was beforehand.
11:30I'm telling you now, on Saturday night against Carlos Pratis, look, this guy might have four
11:34bonuses against four nobodies.
11:36I've got more wins in the top 15 than he does in the fights in the UFC.
11:40I'm a different animal.
11:41I fight.
11:42It's what I do.
11:43I love this.
11:44And on Saturday night, I'm going to prove to Carlos and everyone watching that I am
11:47simply better.
11:49And one more for me.
11:50There are now lots of rumors that Islam Makhachev wants to go up to.
11:55He's so good.
11:57He's so good.
11:58I'm looking forward to face him.
12:00I've said this, right?
12:01So I believe Bilal is going to win in Canada against Jack De La Madeline if they fight.
12:06And I believe Jack is just going to get swallowed.
12:09I think Bilal has everything to beat him.
12:11And then I know there's team complications or Bilal doesn't want to fight Islam because
12:16of the training and stuff like that.
12:18So then I fight Bilal.
12:19I beat Bilal.
12:20And then there's a choice.
12:21Do I defend against the pound for pound number one and Islam Makhachev and welcome him up
12:25to the welterweight division?
12:26Or do I fight Shavkat Rakhmanov after he comes off the injury that I prevented him from
12:31fighting for the belt right now?
12:33I have nothing but love and respect as a fighter and a fight fan for Islam Makhachev.
12:39I think he's phenomenal.
12:40And there is a reason why that man is number one in the world.
12:43If he wants to come up and I have that belt, it would be an absolute honor to share the
12:49octagon with him and prove to myself and the world the talents that I have.
12:55I think he's phenomenal.
12:56I think he's amazing.
12:56I think it would be an incredibly tough fight because he's amazing everywhere.
13:01But I believe both me and Islam show the new evolution of MMA fighters.
13:06You can't be good in one area.
13:09You have to be great in every area.
13:11And that's what I believe me and Islam are.
13:13So, if that fight's ever on the cards, then out of respect for that man and everything
13:19that he's done, it would be an honor.
13:21It would be an honor to share the octagon with him.
13:23And the very last one from me.
13:25You said that if you win, you want to be next for the title.
13:30But if Della Maddalena win, it's obviously that Islam Makhachev will be next for the title.
13:36So, does it mean that you will cheer Bilal in Montreal?
13:41Well, it's not that I'm going to cheer for Bilal.
13:43I just think he's going to win.
13:44I think he has...
13:45I've seen Jack Della Maddalena being ragdolled by people that aren't as good as that game
13:49as Bilal.
13:50So, I think it's a perfect stylistic fight for Bilal.
13:53But to your point, if Jack wins and Islam Makhachev comes up, then every single person
14:00in the welterweight division is going to sit the fuck down and give that man the respect
14:03he deserves.
14:03Does that make sense?
14:04He's the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.
14:06What you do is you sit down, you shut your mouth and you say, okay, you're next.
14:09So, you're good with that?
14:11100%.
14:11I give that man respect and I'll just tell him that I'm next.
14:15Does that make sense?
14:16When he fights, I'll fight him afterwards.
14:18But I'll give him the respect he deserves and I believe everybody else in the top 15
14:22should do the same.
14:23Thank you, sir.
14:23Good luck.
14:24Appreciate it.
14:25Have a great day.
14:25Enjoy the show.
14:28Go ahead.
14:28Sorry, this just popped up yesterday, actually.
14:32Conor McGregor put out a tweet to Michael Chandler about, you know, that basically implying,
14:37you know, that we have unfinished business and Michael Chandler responded.
14:40Just curious, as a fellow Irishman, do you think that he is trolling Michael Chandler at
14:45this point or do you think that he actually does want to come back and fight?
14:48What are your thoughts?
14:49I think he's the best in the world at getting people to talk about him.
14:52And no matter what he does, we're always going to talk about him.
14:56Just like my company did.
14:57Yeah, thank you.
14:59Appreciate you guys.
14:59Have a great day.
