00:00:00I can't see anything bad.
00:00:26Well, yeah, that's kind of the point of the blindfold in a birthday girl.
00:00:30All right.
00:00:31Here, right up there.
00:00:32Oops.
00:00:38This is all mine?
00:00:39That's right, little ladybug.
00:00:40Your very own garden.
00:00:42And you can grow whatever you want.
00:00:47This is the best birthday ever.
00:00:49Oh, how could I forget?
00:00:50You're going to need this if you plan on planting any seeds.
00:00:54My very own trowel?
00:00:57Amanda, remember this when you use that trowel.
00:00:59The key to any garden success is the love that you put into it.
00:01:04I have plenty of love to give.
00:01:06Yeah, you sure do.
00:01:09Oh, thanks.
00:01:10Honey, come on.
00:01:16All right.
00:01:17That's all.
00:01:32Mom.
00:01:33Smells like snickerdoodle?
00:01:40Cinnamon, give it away.
00:01:42We've sold out every week since the new pastor let me sell them after Sunday service.
00:01:46Good, because every cookie sale counts when the flowers aren't blooming.
00:01:49So much for frost being over.
00:01:54The bloom is so far behind this year, the only thing we'll be harvesting for Easter is dirt.
00:01:59The harvest calendar is just an estimate.
00:02:01It's been off in the past.
00:02:03Can't control the weather, but we can control other things.
00:02:06I should hear back soon about our business loan application.
00:02:09Can't we just refinance?
00:02:12Not with the mortgage and arrears.
00:02:15Your dad would be proud of how hard we're trying.
00:02:18I know that.
00:02:20We have enough to make it through Easter, though, right?
00:02:24Let's see what the bank says about our emergency loan.
00:02:26I don't know what we'd do without the farm.
00:02:32Well, we won't give up.
00:02:35We can still hope for an Easter miracle.
00:02:40Can I take a few of these for the road?
00:02:43Yeah.
00:02:46Maybe the tips at the cafe will be extra big on this extra cold morning.
00:02:53Okay, you're gonna go.
00:02:55I love you.
00:02:55I love you, too.
00:02:56I love you.
00:03:00Yeah.
00:03:02Okay.
00:03:03Right behind you.
00:03:04Here's cool, awesome muffin.
00:03:07I have a regular latte and a double espresso milk.
00:03:13Have a good day.
00:03:14Thanks for regular.
00:03:17Hey.
00:03:18Hey.
00:03:19What can I get you?
00:03:20Good morning.
00:03:21I'll have a large lavender latte with a dash of cinnamon,
00:03:26some agave, and, uh, almond milk.
00:03:28Only if you have it.
00:03:29Yeah.
00:03:29Sure.
00:03:30Give me two minutes.
00:03:33Effie, I'm pretty sure I need another two sets of hands to make it through the morning rush.
00:03:37How do you do it?
00:03:40When in doubt, more caffeine.
00:03:42Oh, cheers.
00:03:43Cheers.
00:03:46Wow.
00:03:47Uh-huh.
00:03:48Thank you, again, for letting me pick up some extra shifts at the cafe.
00:03:53Things are pretty tight at the farm, at least until the spring bloom comes in.
00:03:57Well, I know you'd do anything to save the farm.
00:04:00Well, for example, I used to love our play dates.
00:04:04You know, the ones where you just basically got me to help you weed?
00:04:09My dad always said that pulling weeds built character.
00:04:13Uh-huh.
00:04:15Almond milk, lavender latte, two pump agave, dash of cinnamon.
00:04:18Thanks, Amanda.
00:04:20Have we met before?
00:04:21No.
00:04:22You just have a nice, beautiful, labeled name tag.
00:04:27Oh, I forget that's there.
00:04:33Mmm.
00:04:35This might be the best latte I've ever had.
00:04:38Nope, that's all yours.
00:04:40Um, that's a $14 tip.
00:04:42And I'd give you a $15 if I had it.
00:04:45You see, some people drink coffee to, you know, drink coffee.
00:04:49I drink coffee because it's an experience.
00:04:52And yours just has just the right amount of lavender and agave.
00:04:57Mmm.
00:04:58Not too sweet, not too floral.
00:05:00And just the right temperature for a cold day like today.
00:05:03Well, um, well, thank you.
00:05:05No, thank you.
00:05:06I've never heard anybody talk about coffee like that.
00:05:09No.
00:05:09That's because we just met.
00:05:12Right.
00:05:13I appreciate your artistry, your effort.
00:05:16Most of all, that's mine.
00:05:18Have a good one.
00:05:19Have a good day.
00:05:20Um, okay, that was adorable.
00:05:25What?
00:05:25He appreciated my artistry.
00:05:27That was a $14 tip.
00:05:29Think he was appreciating more than just your artistry, Sam?
00:05:33Hi, Gladys.
00:05:34Oh, hi, Gladys.
00:05:35Amanda Raymond.
00:05:36You're in the coffee business now.
00:05:38Uh, just temporarily, until the spring bloom comes in.
00:05:42Fingers crossed that spring is hiding around the corner.
00:05:44I'll just take a black.
00:05:45Oh, yeah.
00:05:46You know, I really do miss seeing those dedication arrangements from your farm in the church lobby every Sunday.
00:05:52That was really more my dad's thing.
00:05:54I know you two were close.
00:05:56Just know how much those arrangements lifted my spirits.
00:05:59I sure hope we get to see them again.
00:06:02And we hope to see you again, too.
00:06:03Um, I'm sure you'll see my mom in service on Sunday.
00:06:07Okay.
00:06:11Have a good day.
00:06:12Bye.
00:06:16Everything good?
00:06:18Uh, yeah.
00:06:20Just, it's hard sometimes when people talk about my dad.
00:06:23It brings up a lot.
00:06:26Everyone has nothing but love for him.
00:06:29I do, too.
00:06:32Except some of those gardening puns were way too cheesy.
00:06:35Um, that was a good one.
00:06:38Oh.
00:06:39You grow girl.
00:06:40Uh, what incarnation?
00:06:46Oh, here she comes again.
00:06:48Who?
00:06:48Someone who seems to lack a little sunshine in her life.
00:06:51Hi.
00:06:54I'll take the usual.
00:06:56Yes.
00:06:59Muffin, muffin.
00:07:01Nice day we've been having.
00:07:03Muffin.
00:07:05Muffin.
00:07:06Here you go.
00:07:08Keep the change.
00:07:10Have a good day.
00:07:13Not one for a conversation much, is she?
00:07:16Yeah.
00:07:17She's a real tough cookie.
00:07:19Speaking of cookies.
00:07:20Huh?
00:07:21I think we deserve a little cookie celebration after having survived that morning rush.
00:07:26My mom made a fresh batch of snickerdoodles this morning.
00:07:29Oh my gosh.
00:07:30Oh my gosh.
00:07:30Oh my gosh.
00:07:31No words.
00:07:35I have no words.
00:07:36Yum?
00:07:37Yes.
00:07:38That.
00:07:38Mm.
00:07:39Wait.
00:07:41Idea.
00:07:42How many of these can your mom make?
00:07:44Because we could sell them in the cafe.
00:07:47I was hoping you would say that.
00:07:48You set me up?
00:07:50Oh, and whatever profits we make can go right back to the farm.
00:07:54Okay, you don't have to go that far.
00:07:55Uh-huh.
00:07:56Amanda.
00:07:56Um, I just died and went to cookie heaven, so, yeah, we should do that.
00:08:04Hi.
00:08:04How can I help you?
00:08:09Come on.
00:08:10How come I haven't come out yet?
00:08:25Because they still need time, ladybug.
00:08:28But what if something is wrong?
00:08:30I'm getting worried.
00:08:32You know what I do when I'm worrying?
00:08:34I say a little prayer.
00:08:36Why do you do that?
00:08:37Because it lets me get my worries away instead of letting them weigh me down.
00:08:44And I know God will take them from me.
00:08:47You really think so?
00:08:48Yeah.
00:08:49I guess I'll try.
00:08:53Hi, God.
00:08:54It's me, Amanda Raymond.
00:08:56I'm really nervous about my garden.
00:08:59Please help them grow to be big, beautiful, and healthy.
00:09:03Amen.
00:09:03I know that you'd probably be praying right now.
00:09:24Prayers can't melt ice.
00:09:27They can't bring you back.
00:09:28Hey, are you okay?
00:09:36Oh, I think so.
00:09:38Yeah, no bumps, no bruises.
00:09:39Oh, thank goodness.
00:09:40Do you live nearby?
00:09:41I'm closer to town.
00:09:43My husband and I just moved here.
00:09:45Yeah, I'm going to call him.
00:09:46He's going to come and get me.
00:09:47Okay, okay.
00:09:49Um, I can also get your car out with our tractor.
00:09:53But, um, should we go inside?
00:09:54It's freezing out here.
00:09:57You're a godsend.
00:09:59Amanda.
00:10:00Oh, Lori.
00:10:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:02Just watch your step there.
00:10:03Just a little shooken.
00:10:04I'll put the kettle on.
00:10:06Nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa on a frigid day.
00:10:11Cheers to that.
00:10:13Um, oh, you have a lovely home.
00:10:16Do you live here with your husband?
00:10:18No, I am single.
00:10:20It's my parents' house.
00:10:22Well, um, it's actually, it's my mom's house.
00:10:25My, uh, my dad died last year.
00:10:27Sorry to hear that.
00:10:29I, I did see the sign on your farm out front.
00:10:34The Raymond Pick Your Own Bouquet flower farm?
00:10:36Yeah, that's our, um, our family business.
00:10:39I, I know it doesn't look like much right now.
00:10:41But hopefully, in a few weeks, it'll be a cornucopia of color out there.
00:10:47Oh, yeah, the weather.
00:10:49So either they're a gardener's greatest ally or a worst enemy.
00:10:53Let me guess.
00:10:55Pink peonies and maybe a row of purple hyacinths to complement them.
00:10:59And, oh, I can imagine a wide array of tulips.
00:11:03Perfect Easter flower.
00:11:04And, well, maybe a hybrid or two when they cross-pollinate.
00:11:07Okay, Lori, most people don't know the difference between a daisy and a daffodil.
00:11:14What's your secret?
00:11:15My whole life has been the business of flowers, dear.
00:11:18So you're a florist.
00:11:20Was for 40 years.
00:11:21I'm officially retired now.
00:11:23It's, it's just a hobby.
00:11:25I don't even compete in the annual Easter flower arranging competition anymore.
00:11:29But you have.
00:11:30Have you, have you ever won?
00:11:32Oh, I haven't.
00:11:33But I placed second last year in my highest finish.
00:11:35So, um, I'm sitting with floral royalty, is what you're saying?
00:11:39Certainly not the queen, but perhaps in her royal court.
00:11:45Um, I can go get my tractor and we can get you back on the road.
00:11:48Oh, I certainly appreciate that.
00:11:52God, thank you so much.
00:11:55Uh, Amanda?
00:11:57Huh?
00:11:57Is there anything that I can do to repay you for your help with my car?
00:12:02Um, well, can you pull a miracle and melt the ice out there?
00:12:06You really need a bloom, huh?
00:12:08You know the flower business.
00:12:09We make most of our money during certain seasons.
00:12:11And with the Easter bloom being so far behind...
00:12:14Well, sadly, my alter ego isn't Mother Nature.
00:12:17But what about that Easter flower arranging competition?
00:12:23I mean, the prize is $20,000.
00:12:26Wow.
00:12:27I mean, that would be enough to get us through the season.
00:12:33Except there's just one tiny, huge problem.
00:12:37I'm a farmer, not a florist.
00:12:40I mean, that's why we have our customers pick their own bouquets.
00:12:42Well, that's where I come in.
00:12:43I mean, I know six weeks is not a lot of time, but...
00:12:47I can teach you what you need to compete if you're willing to learn.
00:12:51The cost of flowers alone.
00:12:53Oh, no, no, no.
00:12:53I can handle it.
00:12:54And we can always practice with silk flowers.
00:12:58I mean, think about it.
00:12:59We might even dethrone Queen Constance Hughes.
00:13:05Constance?
00:13:06Yeah, she's won ten years in a row.
00:13:08Oh, Amanda.
00:13:10Come on.
00:13:12Just take my number.
00:13:13Here.
00:13:18Here you go.
00:13:22This is a very generous offer, and I'm sure it'd be fun to learn.
00:13:29But I couldn't compete.
00:13:32I'd be going against people with years of experience.
00:13:36Thank you, but I'll just have to find some other way to keep us afloat.
00:13:40I'll just have to find some other way to keep us afloat.
00:13:41Okay.
00:13:44Call me if you change your mind.
00:13:46I will.
00:13:47Come on.
00:13:48Let's go get your car.
00:13:49Yes, please.
00:13:49No, I understand.
00:13:56You're just doing your job.
00:14:01Hey, is everything okay?
00:14:03That was the bank, Amanda.
00:14:05Our last two years of sales just aren't enough to give them confidence to approve the loan.
00:14:12That was our Hail Mary to get caught up.
00:14:23I have to do it.
00:14:25Do what?
00:14:26The statewide Easter flower arranging competition.
00:14:30The first prize is $20,000.
00:14:32It's at least enough to keep us afloat until the balloon comes.
00:14:36Flower arranging.
00:14:37Is this a skill that you've been hiding from me?
00:14:39Hiding from everyone?
00:14:43Including myself.
00:14:44But I met a florist yesterday, and she's retired, but she's competed before, and she said she'd teach me.
00:14:53Your dad would love to hear that.
00:14:55I have to at least try.
00:14:58Maybe our last hope.
00:15:00Well, a little bit of hope is all we need.
00:15:07Amanda, I have to ask.
00:15:09What made you change your mind about the competition?
00:15:14Our business loan application got denied, so winning the competition prize money, it feels like maybe the farm's last hope.
00:15:26Well, then let's not waste any time.
00:15:29Take a look at your blank canvas.
00:15:34Oh, I know that look.
00:15:36The, I have no idea where to begin, look.
00:15:39Yeah, that one.
00:15:40Let's just have fun to start, and we'll see what we're working with.
00:15:48So, heonese.
00:15:50And ranunculus.
00:15:53Iris.
00:15:55And go to a classic, got some roses.
00:15:58Yeah, you do know all the names of the flowers and how they grow, but I want to see you actually create something.
00:16:05I think that my creative side is still hibernating for winter.
00:16:09It's a good thing there's no pressure.
00:16:11Come on, just have fun.
00:16:13Okay.
00:16:14You asked for it.
00:16:19Some.
00:16:19And, um, roses.
00:16:29Roses?
00:16:37I call it a thorn amidst roses.
00:16:42Mm-hmm.
00:16:43It's, it's rough.
00:16:44I, I, I, I, I know, but I am ready and willing to do whatever it takes.
00:16:50That's the spirit.
00:16:51Don't be so hard on yourself, you've got a lot to learn.
00:16:54There are five principles to floral design.
00:16:56You master those, you've got a chance to win.
00:16:58They are harmony, contrast, purpose, balance, and...
00:17:02Oh.
00:17:03Um, I, I'm gonna keep the last one a secret.
00:17:05A, a secret?
00:17:07Well, I mean, don't I need all five to win the competition?
00:17:10A, a secret for now, at least.
00:17:12I mean, it, it's something that you can only learn after you've succeeded at the first four,
00:17:16but let's get on with it.
00:17:19Now, the first principle is harmony.
00:17:23Harmony?
00:17:24Yeah.
00:17:24We're going on a field trip for this one.
00:17:27Come on, let's take a walk.
00:17:29Okay.
00:17:35Your lesson awaits.
00:17:38Inside?
00:17:39Is everything okay?
00:17:42I, I haven't been back inside since my dad's funeral, and that was over a year ago.
00:17:50So it brings back a lot.
00:17:54A lot.
00:17:55Hey, Mom.
00:17:56Oh, Derek.
00:17:57Hey.
00:17:58Perfect timing.
00:17:59Meet Amanda Raymond.
00:18:01She's the flower protege I was telling you about.
00:18:04We've met, uh, Mr. Lavender Latte.
00:18:08Mm-hmm.
00:18:09It's good to see you.
00:18:10Minus the name tag.
00:18:13I'm Derek, the new pastor.
00:18:16It's a pleasure.
00:18:17Well, I don't want to get in the way of flower training.
00:18:20Yeah.
00:18:21Like, require practice myself, so.
00:18:22La, la, la.
00:18:24Oh.
00:18:25As you can hear, I need all the help I can get.
00:18:28Well, we're on our way there as well.
00:18:30All right, I'll see you inside.
00:18:33Um, only, of course, you're ready.
00:18:40Yeah.
00:18:40I just need a moment.
00:18:56Take your time.
00:19:16Just thank you.
00:19:17Pink was Sonia's favorite color.
00:19:19Yeah.
00:19:31Lori, I, I'm, I, I just can't.
00:19:34I know, I'm, I'm ruining the lesson.
00:19:46I, no, no, don't feel bad for one sec.
00:19:50You know, it's not one of the five principles, but the key to any successful arranger is the ability to adapt.
00:19:55It's not, not every arrangement's gonna go exactly as you want it to.
00:19:59Amanda, everything okay?
00:20:04Yeah, I, I'm just not ready to go back in there, Pastor.
00:20:09Please, it's only Pastor on Sundays.
00:20:11Steric, don't be so hard on yourself.
00:20:15If you're not ready, it's on your time.
00:20:17Okay?
00:20:18And I'd be happy to open the door for you if and when that time comes.
00:20:21I appreciate it.
00:20:24It's, um, it's very chivalrous.
00:20:28Well, I was raised well.
00:20:30I'll let you two get to it.
00:20:32Hope to see you again.
00:20:40This is like an antique.
00:20:42Well, it's very retro.
00:20:44Now for your lesson,
00:20:45I want you to pay special attention to each person's solo.
00:20:51As I went down to the river to...
00:20:54Soprato.
00:20:55Studying about that...
00:20:57Alto.
00:20:58And who shall...
00:20:59Tenor.
00:21:00The starry crown.
00:21:02The bass.
00:21:03Show me the way...
00:21:05All right, okay, I'm following.
00:21:06Oh, here's the best part.
00:21:09Let's go down, come on down.
00:21:13The harmony.
00:21:15Yes.
00:21:16So,
00:21:17I think
00:21:19we can agree
00:21:21that individually
00:21:24these flowers are lovely, right?
00:21:27Right.
00:21:28Now I want you to close your eyes.
00:21:31Close your eyes.
00:21:32And I want you to imagine
00:21:33that the quartet is singing.
00:21:35Let's go down, let's go down, come on down.
00:21:39Oh, sisters, let's go down, down in the river to...
00:21:45Voila!
00:21:48How did you...
00:21:50Your first lesson, grasshopper?
00:21:53I'm more of a ladybug person.
00:21:56Noted.
00:21:57See, the key
00:21:58is to look for ways for the flowers
00:22:01to compliment one another.
00:22:05Now,
00:22:06you give it a try,
00:22:08ladybug.
00:22:11Okay.
00:22:14So, as you can see,
00:22:15we've substantially upped our offer,
00:22:17really taking into consideration
00:22:18the value and acreage of the land.
00:22:21Tom!
00:22:23We've told you before,
00:22:24and we will tell you again.
00:22:25It's not for sale.
00:22:27Hi, Amanda.
00:22:27Your father was a good friend of mine,
00:22:29and I'm trying to help you and your mom
00:22:31by providing another alternative.
00:22:35That a letter from the mortgage company?
00:22:38We're getting more and more behind.
00:22:41And without the business loan,
00:22:43it's a notice of foreclosure.
00:22:45Again, I don't want to be in this position,
00:22:47but I'd like to give you the option
00:22:49to earn something substantial and fair
00:22:51based on what you've built,
00:22:52as opposed to other options.
00:22:56We still have time, Tom.
00:22:58And you're right.
00:22:59You and Craig were close,
00:23:01so you'd know that he would...
00:23:03Decline my offer.
00:23:05Respectfully.
00:23:07I'm rooting for you.
00:23:09Reach out to me
00:23:10before you hear from the bank again.
00:23:14You know where to find me.
00:23:22Foreclosure?
00:23:23How did this happen?
00:23:26No reserves.
00:23:27And bad weather.
00:23:29And your dad was the flower whisperer.
00:23:31I should have put back here
00:23:32when Dad asked me to.
00:23:34Maybe then I would know more
00:23:36about the business and...
00:23:37Listen to me.
00:23:38This is not your fault.
00:23:41Have faith that things will turn around.
00:23:43Why would God do this to us?
00:23:45After everything we went through
00:23:46with Dad and Frost
00:23:47and now foreclosure?
00:23:50God, it doesn't work like that, Amanda.
00:23:54I'll tell you what.
00:23:56I'll get more hours at the accounting firm
00:23:58and I'll keep baking.
00:24:00And I'll give you time to practice
00:24:02so you can win that competition.
00:24:05How'd it go today?
00:24:06Okay.
00:24:08Yeah, um...
00:24:10Sorry, but, um...
00:24:12I wouldn't count on winning the competition.
00:24:20God wants us
00:24:22to be joyful.
00:24:24But that doesn't mean
00:24:25we have to be happy all the time.
00:24:28There will be times
00:24:29in our lives
00:24:30of struggle.
00:24:32Of loss.
00:24:34But even when there are tears
00:24:35rolling down your cheeks,
00:24:37there can still be joy in your heart.
00:24:38Ultimately,
00:24:41I want you all to remember that
00:24:42during the Easter season.
00:24:44Joy
00:24:44can be steadfast in sorrow
00:24:47and triumphant
00:24:49in tribulation.
00:24:52Amen?
00:24:53Amen.
00:24:54Amen.
00:24:55Amen.
00:24:55Amen.
00:24:57Ah, James.
00:24:58Pleasure.
00:25:00Thanks, Amie.
00:25:00Good to see you.
00:25:01Sweetheart.
00:25:02Oh, sweetheart.
00:25:04Great.
00:25:04Ah, thank you.
00:25:06Papa, thank you.
00:25:08Wonderful.
00:25:08Sermon today, Dee.
00:25:11Or should I say Pastor, Dee?
00:25:13Samuel Stevens, in the flesh.
00:25:15It's good to see you, my friend.
00:25:16Don't tell me you came all this way
00:25:17just to hear me preach.
00:25:18I know you're busy now,
00:25:19but hear me out.
00:25:21I'm starting a new venture
00:25:22that could be a really
00:25:23exciting opportunity for you.
00:25:25A way to connect
00:25:25your two passions.
00:25:27Okay.
00:25:28All right, well,
00:25:29we should find time to chat.
00:25:30Catch up.
00:25:31We'll talk soon.
00:25:32Good to see you.
00:25:32You too.
00:25:33Good to see you.
00:25:33Good to see you.
00:25:33Good to see you.
00:25:34Good to see you.
00:25:34Good to see you.
00:25:34Good to see you.
00:25:35Good to see you.
00:25:35Good to see you.
00:25:36Pastor?
00:25:37Uh, excellent Sunday.
00:25:40Okay, you get a hall pass.
00:25:42Uh, lavender latte,
00:25:43just the way you like it.
00:25:44And what did I do
00:25:45to deserve this?
00:25:47You know, token of my, um,
00:25:49appreciation
00:25:49for your very generous tip
00:25:51the other day.
00:25:52But, uh, I don't want to keep you
00:25:53from the congregation.
00:25:54Please, my congregation's
00:25:55too busy gobbling up
00:25:56your mama's banana bread.
00:25:57So, um, I've got an hour
00:26:01into my next service.
00:26:02Do you care for a walk?
00:26:05Uh, sure.
00:26:11So how are you like
00:26:12in town so far?
00:26:13I love it.
00:26:14Although for me,
00:26:15it's, uh, spit cold.
00:26:17You know, my parents
00:26:18grew up in Vermont,
00:26:19so they're used to it.
00:26:20But, uh, I was raised
00:26:22mostly in the South.
00:26:23You know, come to think of it,
00:26:24the people here
00:26:25are like the weather
00:26:26they're warm.
00:26:29Your mom said that you are
00:26:30a bit of an outdoorsy type.
00:26:33That's my mom.
00:26:35Loves talking about her son.
00:26:37But she's right.
00:26:38I do love being outside.
00:26:40It's my happy place.
00:26:43She also, uh,
00:26:44mentioned four-wheeling?
00:26:46Did she?
00:26:48And axe-throwing.
00:26:51Of course she did.
00:26:52Mountain biking.
00:26:53What else?
00:26:54Uh, skydiving.
00:26:55Well, that's actually
00:26:55a lot of fun.
00:26:58If I met you today,
00:26:59I never would have,
00:27:00would have guessed.
00:27:02Is it the, uh,
00:27:03clean-shaven,
00:27:05tailored suit jacket,
00:27:06polished dress shoe thing?
00:27:08It's not your typical
00:27:09mudding outfit.
00:27:11Can't say I've met
00:27:12too many pastors
00:27:13who like axe-throwing
00:27:15and skydiving.
00:27:16Well, if you can't tell,
00:27:17that means I'm doing
00:27:18a good job.
00:27:19What does that mean?
00:27:21I'm into this town,
00:27:22so I'm going to
00:27:24I don't want people,
00:27:25you know,
00:27:26knowing about my
00:27:27extreme adventure side
00:27:29just yet.
00:27:30You think that they'd
00:27:31really care what you do
00:27:33for fun when you're not working?
00:27:34They have a lot of trust in me.
00:27:36And being a pastor
00:27:37is a big responsibility.
00:27:38I don't want people thinking
00:27:39that I'm reckless
00:27:40and irresponsible
00:27:41during my downtime.
00:27:42I hope you understand.
00:27:45Can we just
00:27:45keep this between us?
00:27:47Seriously?
00:27:50Seriously.
00:27:51I...
00:27:52Sure.
00:27:55Only if you tell me more
00:27:57about skydiving.
00:27:59I never prayed so hard
00:28:00in my life.
00:28:10Amanda,
00:28:11it's six in the morning.
00:28:13What are you doing?
00:28:14I couldn't sleep
00:28:15and wanted to start
00:28:15prepping things
00:28:16before heading to Lori's
00:28:17later today.
00:28:19Well, let me help.
00:28:24Saw you got to meet her son.
00:28:27Mom, it's not like that.
00:28:28He's the...
00:28:29the pastor,
00:28:30and...
00:28:31I don't know.
00:28:31We're just in...
00:28:33two different places.
00:28:34You know,
00:28:37when I met your father
00:28:38at the farmer's market,
00:28:39we were both searching
00:28:40for the perfect bouquet.
00:28:42I both found it
00:28:42exactly the same time.
00:28:44And he insisted
00:28:46on buying it.
00:28:47And I let him.
00:28:49Only to have him
00:28:50purchase it
00:28:50and give it to me.
00:28:53But while your father
00:28:54was a man
00:28:54who was incredibly firm
00:28:56in his faith,
00:28:57he was also a man
00:28:58who was always willing
00:28:59to meet me
00:29:00wherever I was
00:29:01on my faith journey.
00:29:03And...
00:29:04I just met Derek.
00:29:05I don't know
00:29:06that much about him.
00:29:07Well, and I'm sure
00:29:08he has a lot
00:29:08to learn about you, too.
00:29:11Just do yourself a favor.
00:29:13Don't let your own fears
00:29:13get in the way.
00:29:21You were always
00:29:22Dad's ladybug.
00:29:25The ladybugs are returning.
00:29:27There's a slight bit of hope
00:29:29that the ground
00:29:29will soften soon.
00:29:34Well?
00:29:35A slight bit of hope
00:29:37is all we need.
00:29:47Amanda,
00:29:48are all of these
00:29:50table arrangements yours?
00:29:51Yeah, I'm practicing
00:29:53for a flower arranging competition.
00:29:55Why are you using
00:29:56fake flowers?
00:29:58Well, the frost
00:29:59and I don't have
00:30:01the budget
00:30:01for a fresh one,
00:30:02so I've just been
00:30:03using fake ones
00:30:03to practice.
00:30:04Practicing with fake flowers?
00:30:05That just won't do.
00:30:07Please, let me donate
00:30:07to your flower fund
00:30:08and I'll take
00:30:10all of your mom's cookies, too.
00:30:11No, no, you can't.
00:30:13It's too generous.
00:30:15Of course I can.
00:30:17Consider it an investment
00:30:18in you and your talent.
00:30:20My reward comes
00:30:21in the beautiful arrangements
00:30:22I get to see from you
00:30:23here and at church.
00:30:27Thank you, guys.
00:30:39Okay.
00:30:40As much as I would love
00:30:41to take a break
00:30:42and go shopping,
00:30:43shouldn't we be
00:30:43focusing on flowers?
00:30:45Oh, ladybug,
00:30:46you have much to learn.
00:30:47Lori, right on time.
00:30:50Yeah.
00:30:51Amanda, so good to see you.
00:30:53I am so excited
00:30:54that you came in today.
00:30:55Our spring line
00:30:56just came out
00:30:56and let me tell you,
00:30:57it is amazing.
00:30:59Feels like you should
00:30:59be focusing more
00:31:00on pushing scarves
00:31:01and jackets
00:31:02with the current weather.
00:31:03Well, you know what?
00:31:04If you think spring,
00:31:06then it will come.
00:31:07But what do you say
00:31:09we try on some outfits?
00:31:10Yes.
00:31:10Amanda, I want you
00:31:11to pick out an outfit.
00:31:13Any outfit?
00:31:15Whatever moves you.
00:31:17Very cute.
00:31:32Bright.
00:31:33Oh, it's bright.
00:31:35No, no, no.
00:31:35What do you think?
00:31:37It's lovely, but...
00:31:40No, follow me.
00:31:40Follow me.
00:31:41Follow me.
00:31:42Follow where the journey goes.
00:31:45There you go.
00:31:53Oh, yes.
00:31:55Very cute.
00:31:57Oh, angelic.
00:31:59Yeah.
00:32:01Oh, angelic.
00:32:04That's it.
00:32:05That's it.
00:32:05Okay.
00:32:07Oh, no.
00:32:08No, I'm not.
00:32:09Oh, no.
00:32:11Try something else.
00:32:12Oh, my.
00:32:13Oh, my goodness.
00:32:14Oh, my goodness.
00:32:15That's very nice.
00:32:17Wow.
00:32:18Please, put all the pearls.
00:32:21Oh, yeah.
00:32:26Baby blue.
00:32:30It seems like a fun fashion show.
00:32:33It's actually a valuable lesson
00:32:34in floral design,
00:32:35and you're going to learn that
00:32:36very soon.
00:32:36Come on.
00:32:50So, is there a reason
00:32:52you're avoiding the Constance?
00:32:57Constance and I...
00:32:59Well, we used to be best friends.
00:33:01We used to be?
00:33:02Yeah.
00:33:02We worked in the same
00:33:04florist shop for years.
00:33:06Why, she had such an eye
00:33:08for design.
00:33:09There was so much laughter.
00:33:11We worked so many hours
00:33:12in that shop,
00:33:14creating arrangements
00:33:15for every occasion.
00:33:17It's missing something.
00:33:19Something bright.
00:33:21And yellow.
00:33:24A sunflower.
00:33:25There was a signature
00:33:27to all our designs.
00:33:29It was a single sunflower.
00:33:32I like to think
00:33:32that it represented
00:33:33the brightness
00:33:34of our friendship
00:33:34until, um,
00:33:37circumstances
00:33:38changed that forever.
00:33:41You see,
00:33:42we had a plan.
00:33:45We were going to open
00:33:46our own floral shop.
00:33:49And then I...
00:33:50Then I met Dawn,
00:33:52fell in love,
00:33:53got engaged.
00:33:54He relocated for work
00:33:57and I had to make a choice.
00:34:01Follow my fiancé
00:34:02or
00:34:04keep my promise
00:34:05to my best friend.
00:34:09Broke Constance's heart.
00:34:11She stopped talking to me
00:34:13and I did the same.
00:34:14There was no coming back
00:34:15from it.
00:34:16I'm sorry to hear that.
00:34:18You can imagine
00:34:18how tense it is
00:34:19when we see each other
00:34:21every year at competition
00:34:22and now I...
00:34:23Thanks to my son,
00:34:24we're practically neighbours.
00:34:26Why haven't you ever
00:34:27tried to reconcile?
00:34:29I think we're both
00:34:30just too proud
00:34:31to forgive.
00:34:40So,
00:34:41take a look
00:34:42at this first outfit.
00:34:43You see how
00:34:44the black skirt
00:34:45really makes
00:34:45the red top
00:34:46stand out even more?
00:34:47Yeah,
00:34:48it pops.
00:34:49Yeah.
00:34:50It doesn't have to be
00:34:50just colour.
00:34:51I mean,
00:34:51look at this one
00:34:52with the free-flowing skirt
00:34:53and the fitted top.
00:34:55So,
00:34:55shapes.
00:34:57And the stripes here
00:34:59with the solid colour?
00:35:01Of patterns.
00:35:02Yeah,
00:35:02that's right.
00:35:03You're learning.
00:35:03the second principle
00:35:05is contrast.
00:35:06How contrasting colours,
00:35:08patterns,
00:35:08shapes,
00:35:09textures
00:35:09can all make
00:35:10things stand out
00:35:11even more.
00:35:12Now,
00:35:13look,
00:35:13I made this one
00:35:14earlier.
00:35:16It's not terribly
00:35:17exciting,
00:35:18is it?
00:35:18It could use a boost.
00:35:20Yeah,
00:35:21I think so.
00:35:23Okay.
00:35:27Move.
00:35:28Move.
00:35:32So,
00:35:33what you're saying
00:35:34is
00:35:35that contrasting
00:35:37things
00:35:37can come together
00:35:39to create
00:35:40something
00:35:40that is
00:35:41beautiful.
00:35:42Exactly.
00:35:44Kind of like
00:35:45you and Constance.
00:35:48you.
00:35:52You caught me
00:35:52in my own lesson.
00:35:55Maybe
00:35:55you have something
00:35:57to learn, too.
00:36:01I think it's
00:36:02too late for that.
00:36:06But you know what?
00:36:06I am gonna go
00:36:07make us some lunch,
00:36:09you're gonna practice
00:36:10contrasting arrangements,
00:36:11and then I'm gonna see
00:36:12what you have
00:36:12when I get back.
00:36:16Okay.
00:36:18Hey.
00:36:26Oh, hi.
00:36:27Are you in the
00:36:27floral zone,
00:36:28or can I say
00:36:29a quick hello?
00:36:30I think I would
00:36:31have to be skilled
00:36:32to be in the zone,
00:36:34so come on in.
00:36:37So,
00:36:38I have to ask,
00:36:39which one
00:36:40of these flowers
00:36:41is your favorite?
00:36:42favorite flower.
00:36:46That's like
00:36:47picking a favorite
00:36:48child.
00:36:49I mean,
00:36:50I guess I would
00:36:50have to say
00:36:51the hydrangeas.
00:36:53Oh.
00:36:54Or maybe
00:36:55on second thought
00:36:55carnations,
00:36:56or...
00:36:57No,
00:36:57maybe roses.
00:36:59I don't know.
00:36:59It's too,
00:37:00too difficult to do.
00:37:01I love seeing
00:37:02how passionate
00:37:03you are about them.
00:37:04Well,
00:37:08flower protege,
00:37:09I'll leave you
00:37:10to your craft,
00:37:11but I do have
00:37:11one
00:37:13very important
00:37:14question.
00:37:17Will you
00:37:21accept this,
00:37:25Rose?
00:37:25Rose?
00:37:28Um,
00:37:29well,
00:37:31after careful
00:37:32consideration,
00:37:34I will gladly
00:37:37accept this,
00:37:38Rose.
00:37:39You had my heart
00:37:39pounded for a second
00:37:40there.
00:37:44I have another
00:37:45question for you.
00:37:55Is this because
00:38:05of you, Rose?
00:38:07Ask your daughter.
00:38:15All right,
00:38:16everyone,
00:38:17right this way.
00:38:18Don't be shy.
00:38:22Sorry.
00:38:25So what's up?
00:38:31Well,
00:38:32like I said Sunday,
00:38:33I'm starting
00:38:34a new venture.
00:38:35It's a new
00:38:35mountain retreats
00:38:36program.
00:38:37We're doing
00:38:37week-long
00:38:37spiritual retreats
00:38:39for young men
00:38:40up in the
00:38:40Shenandoah Valley.
00:38:42It's a great
00:38:42experience for
00:38:43our retreatants
00:38:44to be in nature
00:38:45and pray.
00:38:46I've actively
00:38:47been looking
00:38:48for a spiritual
00:38:49leader to guide
00:38:50them,
00:38:52but then it
00:38:52hit me.
00:38:54You're the
00:38:54perfect guy
00:38:55for the job.
00:38:56God,
00:38:56the mountains,
00:38:57it has Derek
00:38:58Matthews written
00:38:59all over it.
00:39:01I mean,
00:39:02Sammy,
00:39:02you know I
00:39:03would do
00:39:03just about
00:39:03anything for
00:39:04you.
00:39:05I mean,
00:39:05I wouldn't be
00:39:06here right now
00:39:07if it wasn't
00:39:07for you.
00:39:09It's just,
00:39:10I know relocation
00:39:11is inconvenient,
00:39:12given you just
00:39:13moved here,
00:39:14but this is a
00:39:14once-in-a-lifetime
00:39:15opportunity.
00:39:16Come on,
00:39:17don't you miss
00:39:17the mountains?
00:39:18More than
00:39:19anything.
00:39:21But I,
00:39:21uh,
00:39:22I don't
00:39:24rock climb
00:39:25anymore.
00:39:27That's not
00:39:27the only thing
00:39:28this is about.
00:39:29Your story
00:39:30is powerful.
00:39:32The agony,
00:39:33the tears.
00:39:34I want to be
00:39:35able to use
00:39:36your story
00:39:36to draw others
00:39:37closer to God.
00:39:44Please really
00:39:44think on it.
00:39:45Our first retreat
00:39:46starts shortly
00:39:47after Easter,
00:39:47so.
00:39:49So,
00:39:50you need an
00:39:50answer soon.
00:39:55A new
00:40:00concoction?
00:40:01Why not?
00:40:01I want to see
00:40:02what your creative
00:40:02side's been
00:40:03brewing up.
00:40:04Vanilla.
00:40:06Solid.
00:40:07Oh,
00:40:08cardamom.
00:40:09Um,
00:40:09okay,
00:40:10I,
00:40:10I know that
00:40:11you,
00:40:12Amanda,
00:40:12are still
00:40:13kind of a
00:40:13coffee novice,
00:40:14but,
00:40:15um,
00:40:15I,
00:40:16I just,
00:40:16uh,
00:40:17I just,
00:40:17let me let you
00:40:18in on a little
00:40:18industry secret.
00:40:20You never combine
00:40:21vanilla with
00:40:21cardamom.
00:40:22They're totally
00:40:22different,
00:40:23opposite,
00:40:24uh,
00:40:24flavor profiles.
00:40:25They don't
00:40:25work together.
00:40:27Uh,
00:40:27yeah.
00:40:28Okay.
00:40:28Don't think.
00:40:29Just experience it.
00:40:32Yes.
00:40:33It's just that
00:40:33the sweetness
00:40:34of the vanilla
00:40:34contrasts perfectly
00:40:40with the spice
00:40:40and complexity
00:40:41of the cardamom.
00:40:42You're a genius.
00:40:42What?
00:40:43No,
00:40:44just, uh,
00:40:44just a good student.
00:40:45We have to put
00:40:46this on the
00:40:46regular menu,
00:40:47like,
00:40:47right now.
00:40:48What do you
00:40:48want to call it?
00:40:49Maybe have a
00:40:51ladybug latte.
00:40:54Ooh,
00:40:55two pumps,
00:40:56extra handsome,
00:40:57incoming.
00:40:57Ooh,
00:40:58Mr.
00:40:59Lavender Latte.
00:41:00Ooh.
00:41:01Hello.
00:41:02Hi.
00:41:03Good morning,
00:41:04Amanda,
00:41:04Heffy.
00:41:05Hi.
00:41:05I'll do my,
00:41:06uh,
00:41:06usual please and
00:41:07thank you.
00:41:08Oh,
00:41:08you know what?
00:41:08Actually,
00:41:09you should try
00:41:10Amanda's new
00:41:10creation,
00:41:11the ladybug latte,
00:41:12Mr.
00:41:13Lavender Pastor.
00:41:14Right.
00:41:16Sure,
00:41:17ladybug latte.
00:41:18That sounds
00:41:19very unique.
00:41:20It's Amanda's
00:41:21creation,
00:41:21I'll try it.
00:41:24Mmm.
00:41:25Mmm,
00:41:25that is,
00:41:26that is divine.
00:41:28Well,
00:41:28thank you.
00:41:29It's delicious.
00:41:29Oh,
00:41:30um,
00:41:30Amanda,
00:41:31great chef today.
00:41:32Uh,
00:41:32you should,
00:41:32uh,
00:41:33go home.
00:41:34Uh,
00:41:34but don't I...
00:41:35No,
00:41:35no,
00:41:36no,
00:41:36no,
00:41:36no.
00:41:36Actually,
00:41:37um,
00:41:37we're out
00:41:37of your mom's
00:41:38cookies,
00:41:38so,
00:41:39uh,
00:41:39I'm gonna need
00:41:39you to make
00:41:40another batch
00:41:40of those.
00:41:42Uh,
00:41:43yes,
00:41:44uh,
00:41:45cookies.
00:41:46Mm-hmm.
00:41:46And it would be
00:41:47so much easier,
00:41:48um,
00:41:48if there were
00:41:49two pairs
00:41:50of hands,
00:41:50um,
00:41:51helping you do
00:41:51that.
00:41:52I have to stay
00:41:52here,
00:41:53though,
00:41:53so I just,
00:41:54I wonder if
00:41:54there's anyone
00:41:55else who could
00:41:55help you.
00:41:57Mm-hmm.
00:41:57Mm-hmm.
00:41:57Oh,
00:42:00um,
00:42:01yeah,
00:42:02I mean,
00:42:02the whole reason
00:42:02I came in today
00:42:03was to get a little
00:42:04break from my
00:42:05Sunday preparations.
00:42:06Mm-hmm.
00:42:06Might be happy
00:42:07to land a stirring
00:42:07hand.
00:42:08Mm-hmm.
00:42:08Of course,
00:42:09if you don't mind.
00:42:10No,
00:42:10she doesn't mind.
00:42:11I,
00:42:11I don't wait.
00:42:18Have you done
00:42:19this before?
00:42:20What?
00:42:21Have you done
00:42:22this before?
00:42:22Oh,
00:42:23uh.
00:42:24Have you
00:42:25done this before?
00:42:27Is it that
00:42:29easy to tell?
00:42:30It's just a little.
00:42:31My mom normally
00:42:33takes charge in the
00:42:34kitchen.
00:42:34I just kind of
00:42:35follow her lead.
00:42:36Yeah,
00:42:36I never would've
00:42:36guessed that.
00:42:39Uh,
00:42:40so,
00:42:41uh,
00:42:41how did you get
00:42:42into the business
00:42:43of God?
00:42:44I see you're
00:42:44changing the subject
00:42:45now, huh?
00:42:46Oh,
00:42:46just,
00:42:46you know,
00:42:47redirecting away
00:42:48from this flowery
00:42:49fiasco.
00:42:50I'm just,
00:42:51um,
00:42:51also just kind
00:42:52of curious.
00:42:53You know,
00:42:53to tell you the truth,
00:42:54I never thought
00:42:54I'd be a preacher
00:42:55or a pastor.
00:42:57I,
00:42:57um,
00:42:58I went to
00:42:59business school
00:42:59of all places.
00:43:01Quickly found out
00:43:02the corporate world
00:43:03was not for me.
00:43:04So I decided to
00:43:05follow my passion
00:43:06for the great outdoors
00:43:07and teach rock climbing.
00:43:09I loved it
00:43:09for years.
00:43:11But,
00:43:11um,
00:43:13and
00:43:14one event
00:43:15that
00:43:16changed my life.
00:43:19I fell
00:43:2060 feet.
00:43:23Yeah,
00:43:24cracked my vertebrae
00:43:25in multiple places.
00:43:26I had five surgeries.
00:43:28The doctor said
00:43:29I'd never walk again.
00:43:31Derek,
00:43:32I'm so sorry
00:43:34to hear that.
00:43:35Yeah.
00:43:37Yeah,
00:43:38that time
00:43:38in the hospital.
00:43:41It was like my desert.
00:43:43I didn't have much
00:43:44to turn to.
00:43:46But then I met
00:43:47Samuel Stevens.
00:43:48He was,
00:43:49um,
00:43:49my occupational therapist.
00:43:51He not only taught me
00:43:52how to walk again,
00:43:53but he taught me
00:43:54about God.
00:43:56He saved my life.
00:43:57I'd do just about
00:44:00anything for him.
00:44:01He, uh,
00:44:01he gave me
00:44:02his granddaddy's Bible.
00:44:03I started reading it
00:44:04and haven't put it down
00:44:05since.
00:44:06That book,
00:44:07it gave me hope.
00:44:10Hope turned into healing
00:44:11and
00:44:11before I know it,
00:44:13I was walking again.
00:44:16Wow.
00:44:16I mean,
00:44:17that's,
00:44:17that's an amazing story.
00:44:21Yeah.
00:44:21But do you ever
00:44:23wonder
00:44:24how you would
00:44:26feel
00:44:27if you were never healed?
00:44:30Of course I did.
00:44:33But I'm a firm believer
00:44:34in faith.
00:44:37You see,
00:44:37things
00:44:38happen
00:44:39for a reason.
00:44:42Even if you can't
00:44:43see it in the moment.
00:44:44Faith.
00:44:45Yeah,
00:44:46that's a,
00:44:46that's a hard one.
00:44:50Yeah,
00:44:50it is.
00:44:52Especially when things
00:44:53aren't going your way.
00:44:55Kind of like now?
00:44:57Yeah.
00:45:01Care to share?
00:45:03It's just, uh,
00:45:04me and a big
00:45:05pile of dough.
00:45:11So,
00:45:12I've been struggling
00:45:14a lot with that
00:45:15because
00:45:15every year
00:45:16my dad
00:45:17would pray
00:45:18for a bountiful
00:45:19Easter harvest
00:45:20and
00:45:21every year
00:45:23it seemed
00:45:24that his prayers
00:45:25were answered.
00:45:29So why did he,
00:45:30of all people,
00:45:31have a heart attack?
00:45:34When he died,
00:45:35I,
00:45:36I came home
00:45:37to help my mom
00:45:38on the farm.
00:45:40And after his funeral,
00:45:41I just,
00:45:42I stopped praying.
00:45:44I stopped
00:45:46going to church.
00:45:49And then
00:45:50this year
00:45:51of
00:45:51all years
00:45:53when we
00:45:53needed our
00:45:55biggest Easter bloom yet,
00:45:57we've had the worst
00:45:59winter
00:45:59in,
00:46:00in decades.
00:46:02So am I supposed
00:46:03to trust that's just
00:46:04a coincidence?
00:46:05Or is that
00:46:06a punishment?
00:46:06I don't think
00:46:08God's waiting for us
00:46:09to get out of line
00:46:10just so he can
00:46:10reprimand us.
00:46:12But it's not
00:46:12punishment.
00:46:14Look,
00:46:15I like to believe
00:46:16that God,
00:46:18he,
00:46:18he loves us
00:46:19just as much
00:46:19in good times
00:46:20as bad.
00:46:22Maybe during
00:46:23hard times,
00:46:24he just wanted us
00:46:24to get a little
00:46:25closer to him.
00:46:27Comfort,
00:46:28support,
00:46:29love.
00:46:32God loves us
00:46:33as always.
00:46:35I mean,
00:46:36you're a pastor
00:46:37so you have
00:46:38to say that,
00:46:38right?
00:46:40Technically.
00:46:42I am.
00:46:43But I'm still
00:46:45making steaks.
00:46:47Also,
00:46:48supposed to take
00:46:50care of people
00:46:51and right now
00:46:53getting this
00:46:55flower.
00:47:00There.
00:47:03These are winners
00:47:07from previous
00:47:08years.
00:47:09And then
00:47:10there's mine.
00:47:14Well,
00:47:15there's still
00:47:15time till Easter.
00:47:20Oh,
00:47:21good timing.
00:47:23Lori!
00:47:24Good morning,
00:47:24Ladybug.
00:47:25Hey,
00:47:25please tell me
00:47:26that you have
00:47:27another lesson
00:47:28ready because
00:47:28I still don't
00:47:29feel like I'm
00:47:30getting it.
00:47:30Patience makes
00:47:31perfect.
00:47:32It's time
00:47:33for your
00:47:33third
00:47:33principle,
00:47:35purpose.
00:47:36Now,
00:47:36we've been
00:47:37working on
00:47:37floral arrangements
00:47:38but it's
00:47:38important that
00:47:39every design
00:47:40says something
00:47:41on a more
00:47:42deeper personal
00:47:43level.
00:47:44You have to
00:47:45find inspiration
00:47:45outside the
00:47:46flowers to
00:47:47put into
00:47:48the flowers.
00:47:49Okay,
00:47:50I'm following.
00:47:51So here's
00:47:51what I want
00:47:52you to do.
00:47:52The church
00:47:53is hosting
00:47:53an Easter
00:47:54basket raffle
00:47:55tomorrow
00:47:55evening at
00:47:56Parish Hall
00:47:56to raise
00:47:57money for
00:47:57the local
00:47:57food bank.
00:47:58Church members
00:47:59and non-church
00:48:00members are
00:48:01creating and
00:48:01donating
00:48:02individualized
00:48:03baskets.
00:48:04Now,
00:48:04the items
00:48:04in these
00:48:05baskets,
00:48:06they all
00:48:06mean something
00:48:07very personal
00:48:07to their
00:48:08curators.
00:48:09So,
00:48:10you want
00:48:11me to
00:48:11arrange an
00:48:12Easter
00:48:12basket,
00:48:13but how
00:48:14is that
00:48:14supposed to
00:48:15make me a
00:48:15better floral
00:48:16arranger?
00:48:19Lori?
00:48:21Sorry,
00:48:22dear.
00:48:23Um, not
00:48:25every lesson
00:48:26reveals itself
00:48:27right away.
00:48:29Okay,
00:48:30I will,
00:48:31uh,
00:48:31do my
00:48:31best.
00:48:32You always
00:48:33do.
00:48:34I'll see
00:48:34you tomorrow.
00:48:44Any ideas
00:48:45on where I'd
00:48:46get some
00:48:46inspiration for
00:48:47an Easter
00:48:48basket?
00:48:49I just
00:48:50might.
00:48:50here's a
00:48:56good one.
00:48:57I used
00:48:57to love
00:48:58it when
00:48:58Dad would
00:48:58push me
00:48:58around in
00:48:59the wheelbarrow.
00:49:00And you
00:49:00always came
00:49:01in needing
00:49:01a bath.
00:49:02Remember that
00:49:07Christmas?
00:49:09That's
00:49:09probably the
00:49:09best Christmas
00:49:10ever.
00:49:12You know,
00:49:12I still use
00:49:13those pruning
00:49:13shears.
00:49:17Feeling
00:49:17inspired?
00:49:19I've got an
00:49:20idea.
00:49:24Oh,
00:49:24thanks so
00:49:25much for
00:49:25coming.
00:49:25Don't forget
00:49:26your raffle
00:49:26tickets.
00:49:29So,
00:49:30what do
00:49:31you have?
00:49:32I did a
00:49:32my first
00:49:33garden basket.
00:49:34I got
00:49:35something like
00:49:35this Christmas
00:49:37as many,
00:49:37many moons
00:49:38ago,
00:49:38and it
00:49:40really meant
00:49:40a lot to
00:49:40me.
00:49:41It gave
00:49:41me a sense
00:49:42of independence
00:49:43and purpose,
00:49:44so hopefully
00:49:45it'll do the
00:49:45same for
00:49:45someone else.
00:49:46You,
00:49:46ladybug,
00:49:47have aced
00:49:48the assignment.
00:49:49When you
00:49:49have a special
00:49:50connection to
00:49:50your arrangements,
00:49:51it's going to
00:49:52show in the
00:49:52final product.
00:49:59Grace,
00:49:59can I have
00:50:00your help,
00:50:00please?
00:50:01Sure.
00:50:02Well,
00:50:06well,
00:50:06well,
00:50:06look at
00:50:07that.
00:50:07Garden
00:50:08basket.
00:50:09Where's
00:50:09the mulch?
00:50:10Oh,
00:50:10didn't go
00:50:11with the
00:50:11aesthetic.
00:50:13Where's
00:50:14yours?
00:50:14Uh,
00:50:15it's a
00:50:16faith-based
00:50:17basket,
00:50:18complete with
00:50:19mustard seeds.
00:50:21Very on
00:50:21brand.
00:50:22Mm-hmm.
00:50:23But why
00:50:23didn't you do
00:50:24something that's,
00:50:25you know,
00:50:25like a rock-climbing
00:50:27basket with some
00:50:28ropes,
00:50:29carabiners?
00:50:29I know,
00:50:30I know,
00:50:31I can't control
00:50:31everything,
00:50:32but one thing I
00:50:33can control is how
00:50:33people in the
00:50:34church see me.
00:50:36Maybe there's
00:50:37something important
00:50:38about sharing all
00:50:40sides of yourself.
00:50:42It's a little more
00:50:43complicated than that.
00:50:47But of course,
00:50:48I'm here to meet you
00:50:50where you're at.
00:50:52I'm sorry,
00:50:52are you coming
00:50:53for my job?
00:50:53Mm-hmm.
00:50:54I'll stick to
00:50:55farming.
00:50:56For now.
00:50:58All right.
00:50:59Well, for now,
00:51:00I should go
00:51:00emcee the event.
00:51:01Yeah.
00:51:13All right,
00:51:14and now for all
00:51:15the green thumbs
00:51:16in the church,
00:51:17we have a basket
00:51:19donated by
00:51:20the wonderful
00:51:21Amanda Raymond,
00:51:22a beautiful starter
00:51:24set for the next
00:51:25great gardener
00:51:26out there.
00:51:27Would you look
00:51:28at all those
00:51:28tickets?
00:51:29All right.
00:51:30See what we've
00:51:31got.
00:51:32And the lucky
00:51:33winner is
00:51:342842.
00:51:382842.
00:51:40That's me.
00:51:41Well,
00:51:42there we go.
00:51:43Constance Hughes.
00:51:45Constance Hughes,
00:51:46everyone.
00:51:46Thank you,
00:51:47Constance.
00:51:48You enjoy.
00:51:49Okay,
00:51:49everyone,
00:51:49I think that
00:51:50wraps up
00:51:50our event
00:51:51for today.
00:51:52Thank you all
00:51:53for coming out.
00:52:00Hey.
00:52:02Look over there.
00:52:04This,
00:52:04this is for you.
00:52:06Really?
00:52:07Yeah,
00:52:07I think it's,
00:52:08oh.
00:52:14You're welcome.
00:52:16Hey,
00:52:16look at that.
00:52:17Uh-huh.
00:52:19That right there.
00:52:20power of God's love.
00:52:24I, um,
00:52:26I do have to get
00:52:27home and practice,
00:52:28but, uh,
00:52:29I was wondering
00:52:31if I could show
00:52:31you something first.
00:52:33Yeah.
00:52:35Yeah,
00:52:35of course.
00:52:35I do have to get
00:52:47and voila.
00:52:49Wow.
00:52:51You got good secrets.
00:52:55Look at those stars.
00:52:58God's freckles.
00:53:00And that's what my mom
00:53:01used to say.
00:53:01Can I ask you something?
00:53:06Sure.
00:53:07Anything.
00:53:08I,
00:53:08I haven't been to church
00:53:10in a year
00:53:11and
00:53:12you're a pastor.
00:53:16What do you see in me?
00:53:19So much.
00:53:21I,
00:53:22I don't look at someone
00:53:23and wonder how often
00:53:24they're going to church
00:53:26or praying every day
00:53:28the size of someone's faith.
00:53:30Well,
00:53:30that can change
00:53:31as life changes.
00:53:33But
00:53:33the size of someone's heart,
00:53:36that's what I see.
00:53:38I see that in you.
00:53:42The way you,
00:53:43you love your family,
00:53:44your farm,
00:53:48your flowers.
00:53:49and I might be
00:53:53losing all that soon.
00:53:56I know the stress
00:53:57of all this
00:53:58must be a lot.
00:54:00But I have faith.
00:54:03I see that in you too.
00:54:06You do?
00:54:08I do.
00:54:11I'm praying for you.
00:54:13Be patient with yourself.
00:54:16That's my, uh,
00:54:17sermon for tomorrow.
00:54:18The fruit of patience.
00:54:21Well, that's a tough one.
00:54:24Yeah?
00:54:26It is.
00:54:28But it's worth it.
00:54:34Um,
00:54:36you,
00:54:36you, uh,
00:54:37you probably have some flowers
00:54:38that need to be arranged.
00:54:40Yes.
00:54:41You should probably get going.
00:54:43Uh,
00:54:43thank you
00:54:45for bringing me here.
00:54:48Yeah.
00:54:49Yeah.
00:54:50Okay.
00:54:51Yeah.
00:54:51That's it.
00:54:54Patience.
00:54:57Right.
00:54:58Everything's set.
00:54:59Yeah.
00:55:00Oh, Amanda!
00:55:02Hi, Lori.
00:55:03I remember doing
00:55:05these eight races
00:55:05back in the day.
00:55:06This is your fourth principle.
00:55:08Balance.
00:55:10Oh.
00:55:10Hmm.
00:55:10All right, kids.
00:55:13Oh.
00:55:14And Amanda.
00:55:15Welcome.
00:55:17The first race
00:55:18is a practice race.
00:55:19Okay?
00:55:20Time to perfect your strategy.
00:55:21If you drop your egg,
00:55:22don't worry.
00:55:23It's a horrible egg.
00:55:23Just pick it back up
00:55:24and keep going.
00:55:25All right.
00:55:26Come to the starting line.
00:55:27On your marks.
00:55:29Get set.
00:55:32Go.
00:55:33Go, go, go, go.
00:55:34Careful, careful.
00:55:35You got it.
00:55:37Go, go, go.
00:55:39Oh, no.
00:55:40That's it.
00:55:41That's it, Timmy.
00:55:42Go, go, go.
00:55:43Yes.
00:55:44Oh.
00:55:44Oh.
00:55:45Great effort.
00:55:47Great practice round.
00:55:48Okay, the real race
00:55:49starts in a few minutes.
00:55:51Do your stretches.
00:55:51How did I used to be
00:55:52so good at this as a kid?
00:55:54Think of it like this.
00:55:55Look at your floral design
00:55:56and you have an imaginary axis
00:55:58going right down the middle of it
00:55:59and you can distribute flowers
00:56:01on both sides.
00:56:02Well, think of it
00:56:02the same way with the race.
00:56:05Center the egg on the spoon
00:56:07on that same axis.
00:56:08Center on the axis
00:56:10to create some balance.
00:56:12So, feeling confident?
00:56:15About as confident as I can be
00:56:17after one attempt.
00:56:19Well, good.
00:56:20Because I'm racing too.
00:56:21Oh.
00:56:23Can I make a friendly wager?
00:56:25I'm listening.
00:56:27Well, if you win,
00:56:29I'll make you lunch.
00:56:30If I win,
00:56:32you have to listen
00:56:33to my Sunday sermon.
00:56:36You know what?
00:56:38Fine, you're on.
00:56:39All right.
00:56:40Line up in the starting line.
00:56:41First one to the finish wins.
00:56:44And get ready
00:56:44because this one's going to be
00:56:46a lot faster than the last one.
00:56:47Are you ready?
00:56:49On your mark.
00:56:51Get set.
00:56:52Go.
00:56:54Oh, gosh.
00:56:55Don't drop it.
00:56:56Oh, gosh.
00:56:58I'm not deep.
00:56:59I'm a pastor.
00:57:00I've never cheated.
00:57:01Oh, no!
00:57:02Oh, no!
00:57:03No, no!
00:57:05Oh, good job, guys.
00:57:07You did great.
00:57:10Good work.
00:57:11Wow.
00:57:11You really got me.
00:57:14I don't think I've ever seen
00:57:16somebody look so happy
00:57:17to lose a bet.
00:57:18Well, losing means
00:57:19I get to take you to lunch.
00:57:23Well, Ladybug,
00:57:24those are the four principles
00:57:26that I can teach you.
00:57:28Harmony, contrast,
00:57:29purpose, and balance.
00:57:30But there's still one left.
00:57:32Master four
00:57:33and earn the fifth.
00:57:35That one's in here, my dear.
00:57:37You have to discover it.
00:57:38And in the meantime,
00:57:39you need to do
00:57:40the three Ps
00:57:41of an expert floral arranger.
00:57:43The three Ps?
00:57:45Practice, practice, practice.
00:57:54All right.
00:57:56Almost there.
00:58:04It's incredible.
00:58:07Come on.
00:58:14So.
00:58:15This
00:58:16is what I wanted
00:58:17to show you.
00:58:19They're snowdrops.
00:58:21I had no idea
00:58:22what they're called.
00:58:23I just
00:58:23thought they were pretty.
00:58:27They're perfect.
00:58:30Snowdrops can grow
00:58:31in adverse conditions
00:58:32like frost,
00:58:34but they also
00:58:35tend to be
00:58:35the first flowers
00:58:36to bloom in spring.
00:58:39They, uh,
00:58:41kind of remind me
00:58:41of you.
00:58:45Thank you for taking me here.
00:58:47Oh, we're not done yet.
00:58:49Nope.
00:58:50We
00:58:51are just getting started.
00:58:53So,
00:58:58the other day
00:58:59at the raffle,
00:59:00you were talking about
00:59:02how
00:59:03it was complicated,
00:59:06your image
00:59:07and how the church
00:59:08and how the church
00:59:08saw you.
00:59:09What did you mean
00:59:10by that?
00:59:11Yeah, um,
00:59:13when I told you
00:59:14about my accident
00:59:15the other day,
00:59:16I wasn't able
00:59:18to tell you
00:59:19the whole story.
00:59:20You see,
00:59:22when I fell,
00:59:24I lost my footing
00:59:26and one of my students,
00:59:29he was tethered to me.
00:59:32He fell even further
00:59:33than I did.
00:59:35And, uh,
00:59:37he wasn't as lucky.
00:59:40He didn't make it?
00:59:43No, he did.
00:59:44Thank God he did.
00:59:45Just, uh,
00:59:49he's in a wheelchair now.
00:59:53When a day goes by
00:59:56and I don't think
00:59:56about that poor kid,
00:59:59I blame myself.
01:00:02I can't even bring myself
01:00:04to rock climb again.
01:00:07I'm sorry.
01:00:11You know,
01:00:12many ways I feel like
01:00:13moving out here
01:00:14was just my attempt
01:00:15to get away
01:00:17from the memory
01:00:18of it all.
01:00:20I feel like
01:00:21such a hypocrite
01:00:21sometimes.
01:00:22You know,
01:00:22I'm asking people
01:00:23to find joy
01:00:25in their sorrow
01:00:26and here I am
01:00:27running for my own.
01:00:32We all have
01:00:33chapters of our lives
01:00:34that we wish
01:00:35we could rewrite.
01:00:39My dad would say
01:00:40without Tess,
01:00:41there could be
01:00:42no testimony.
01:00:46Being open
01:00:47and vulnerable
01:00:49shows your humanity.
01:00:53It gives people hope.
01:00:57I really like that.
01:01:01Have you decided?
01:01:27your great word
01:01:28will reach
01:01:29so many young people.
01:01:30I know.
01:01:31I want to help.
01:01:34And you more
01:01:35than anyone
01:01:35know about
01:01:36my adventurous side.
01:01:37What better way
01:01:38then?
01:01:39There's no way
01:01:39around this relocation thing.
01:01:41Unfortunately not,
01:01:42given the need
01:01:43to be near the mountains.
01:01:45But think of
01:01:45all the upside.
01:01:47It's just
01:01:48too good of an opportunity
01:01:49to pass up,
01:01:50isn't it?
01:01:50Well,
01:01:58it's a pleasure,
01:02:00Samuel,
01:02:00as always.
01:02:01It's good to see you.
01:02:02Take care, friend.
01:02:03You too.
01:02:03Amanda?
01:02:17Amanda?
01:02:21Amanda?
01:02:21Amanda?
01:02:21Amanda?
01:02:25Good morning, Amanda.
01:02:36I'm afraid
01:02:36I had a bit of a fall
01:02:37carrying groceries
01:02:38this morning.
01:02:39I'm at the hospital now
01:02:40getting some x-rays.
01:02:41Don't worry.
01:02:42I'll be fine.
01:02:43Keep practicing.
01:02:44I believe in you,
01:02:45ladybug.
01:02:47Really?
01:02:48Is this part
01:02:49of your master plan?
01:02:50I'm not.
01:02:55Here's the good news.
01:03:00You are the creator
01:03:01of your own garden.
01:03:03Yeah,
01:03:04there might be
01:03:04a weed here or there.
01:03:06Those you just pull out.
01:03:08They weren't supposed
01:03:09to be there
01:03:09in the first place.
01:03:11But with what's left,
01:03:14why not water
01:03:15that with love?
01:03:17Let the light
01:03:17shine down on that
01:03:19and it'll grow
01:03:20into a life
01:03:21that is beautiful.
01:03:25You're right.
01:03:27Thanks, Dad.
01:03:28I needed that.
01:03:38Hi.
01:03:39Amanda,
01:03:40you and Derek,
01:03:41you just missed
01:03:41crossing paths.
01:03:42Oh, my.
01:03:45You did these?
01:03:47Um,
01:03:48this morning.
01:03:50Well, ladybug,
01:03:51I think you are ready
01:03:53to go win a competition.
01:03:55Well,
01:03:56there's still
01:03:57one missing piece,
01:03:59but I think I know
01:04:00what that final lesson is.
01:04:02You do?
01:04:04True beauty
01:04:04comes from the heart,
01:04:06so the key
01:04:07to a winning arrangement
01:04:08has to be
01:04:09love.
01:04:14Bravo.
01:04:15Oh.
01:04:16The final principle
01:04:17of love.
01:04:19A winning floral arrangement
01:04:21is filled with the love
01:04:22that you put
01:04:23into making it.
01:04:26Amanda,
01:04:28I very likely
01:04:30won't be on my feet
01:04:31in time for the competition,
01:04:32but I promise you
01:04:34I am going to be there
01:04:35in spirit.
01:04:37That really means a lot.
01:04:40So,
01:04:41um,
01:04:42what's going on
01:04:45with you and Derek?
01:04:45You know,
01:04:49when someone
01:04:50shows you
01:04:51who they are,
01:04:53just believe them.
01:04:55Not just the bad traits,
01:04:57but the good ones, too.
01:05:01Forgive them.
01:05:02It sounds like
01:05:08we could all
01:05:09use a little more
01:05:10harmony in our lives.
01:05:14Yeah.
01:05:14You're so right.
01:05:19Could you do me a favor?
01:05:21Sure.
01:05:21Sure.
01:05:28Oh.
01:05:29Hello.
01:05:30I'm Amanda Raymond.
01:05:32We've never really talked.

01:05:36but there's a very important

01:06:22the two of you
01:06:23are as far apart
01:06:24as you each think.
01:06:25Anyway,

01:09:48I have to go.
01:09:49Let's go.
01:09:49All right.

01:10:54ever seen.
01:10:56But the winner of this year's Easter competition is...
01:11:10The winner is...

01:11:27Congratulations to all our participants and happy Easter weekend.
01:11:34I tried.
01:11:37Sorry.
01:11:38You're apologizing?
01:11:39Can you imagine the look on your father's face if he saw what you accomplished today?
01:11:45He'd be over the moon.
01:11:47Now that's the truth.
01:11:49He left.
01:11:51Big day tomorrow.
01:11:53Lori, I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me the five principles.
01:12:02I realized that they're all things that I've been missing in my own life.
01:12:07You've given me a renewed sense of purpose on Easter.
01:12:13That's the most important lesson of all.
01:12:24Congratulations.
01:12:25It's really beautiful.
01:12:28We're having an Easter brunch at the farm tomorrow.
01:12:32I wanted to invite you.
01:12:34It's sort of a final send off.
01:12:37I'm not sure that I can, but I really appreciate the invitation.
01:12:42It would mean so much to me if you could make it.
01:12:44We'll see.
01:12:49Thank you for the sunflower.
01:12:52You're welcome.
01:12:53Happy Easter to both of you.
01:12:57Happy Easter.
01:12:58Happy Easter.
01:13:12Warm weather on an Easter Sunday.
01:13:14Doesn't get much better than that.
01:13:16It's just wonderful to see the best version of my daughter back.
01:13:19Joyful and hopeful.
01:13:23You're my mom.
01:13:24You have to say that.
01:13:25Yes.
01:13:26Come on.
01:13:42Dad did so many of these for other people, and we never did one for him.
01:13:48Thank you for organizing this.
01:13:50Oh, it wasn't just me.
01:13:52It wasn't?
01:13:53No.
01:13:54Pastor Derek called me and asked if it was okay.
01:13:55I'm gonna go get our seats.
01:13:56Amanda.
01:13:57Pastor.
01:13:58Pastor.
01:13:59I'm gonna go get our seats.
01:14:00Amanda.
01:14:01Pastor.
01:14:02Pastor.
01:14:03I'm gonna go get our seats.
01:14:04Amanda.
01:14:05Pastor.
01:14:06I'm gonna go get our seats.
01:14:07Amanda.
01:14:08Pastor.
01:14:09I'm gonna get our seat.
01:14:16I'm gonna go get our seats.
01:14:17Amanda.
01:14:18Pastor.
01:14:19I'm going to go get our seats.
01:14:21Amanda.
01:14:23Pastor.
01:14:34On this Easter Sunday,
01:14:35there is just one more fruit of the Holy Spirit left to talk about.
01:14:43Love.
01:14:46Today, it's about a resurrection.
01:14:49And in that resurrection, love wins.
01:14:55You see, God loves all of us.
01:14:59After all, we are made in his image.
01:15:06And yet, I realize I haven't been completely open about my own journey.
01:15:19God places people in our lives for a reason.
01:15:22And someone very special in my own life taught me the importance of being who God created me to be.
01:15:29Before God's path led me here,
01:15:38I was involved in a terrible rock climbing accident.
01:15:44It was a moment that irrevocably changed in several lives, mine included.
01:15:50And though I was lucky enough to have forgiveness from those around me,
01:15:54I was unable to find it in my heart to forgive myself.
01:16:01For today, in the spirit of the resurrection,
01:16:07And I'm committed to embracing who He created me to be, including my love for rock climbing, a gift from God.
01:16:26You see, our relationship with God is rooted in love and forgiveness.
01:16:32And just as God forgives us, we too must learn to forgive each other and ourselves.
01:16:42After all, forgiveness is the purest expression of love.
01:16:52So, on this Easter Sunday, let us walk this path of love together.
01:16:59Amen!
01:17:08Amen!
01:17:09Amen!
01:17:12I'll get it.
01:17:25I'm making up for a late bloom.
01:17:27I think it looks delicious.
01:17:31Hi!
01:17:31Hey!
01:17:33Happy Easter.
01:17:34Happy Easter.
01:17:37Listen, I, uh, I just want to let you know how much it meant to me.
01:17:41You know, seeing your face at church this morning, it really warmed my heart.
01:17:46And, uh, congratulations, by the way, on yesterday.
01:17:51I, um, couldn't save the farm, but, um, I did my best.
01:17:57I'm proud of you.
01:17:59And I'm proud of you for showing the church your authentic self.
01:18:05It took a lot.
01:18:06It took a lot.
01:18:08Hey, Mom.
01:18:09I'm gonna miss you.
01:18:11Miss me?
01:18:13Yeah.
01:18:13Aren't you taking the job?
01:18:16Turn it down.
01:18:19Why?
01:18:20Because there's something here.
01:18:23Something special.
01:18:25With you.
01:18:26With us.
01:18:29And I feel like it's just begun.
01:18:32And, uh, I can't wait to see where it goes.
01:18:36Or grows or blooms.
01:18:38Okay, I'll stop.
01:18:40That is, of course, if, uh, if you're open to it.
01:18:47Constance.
01:18:48Constance.
01:18:48You made it.
01:18:50I did.
01:18:51Uh, come inside and give you a tour.
01:18:55Uh.
01:18:57Uh, come in.
01:19:08I have to do it.
01:19:10Yes.
01:19:11Thank you, Loretta.
01:19:13And I just have to say, I'm so sorry.
01:19:17Please forgive me.
01:19:18We both played an equal part, Constance, so...
01:19:22I ask of you the same thing.
01:19:26Oh, yeah.
01:19:33I have an announcement.
01:19:38This is such a beautiful farm.
01:19:42Run by a beautiful family.
01:19:44And, Amanda, you are the most talented young...
01:19:48Young...
01:19:49I
