Transcript
00:00Cole Swindell is here this week to keep us company and we're going to talk all about
00:04your single which is in the top five right now we'll talk all about this new album we'll talk
00:08about the tour but first i'm gonna have to ask you a million questions about this baby
00:12yeah that's uh kind of taken over everything in our lives and i'm i'm totally cool with that it's
00:17been it's been awesome awesome well congratulations first of all thank you how is courtney feeling
00:22how she's great yeah i think the first trimester was a little rough she you know didn't have much
00:26energy and it was kind of i was like wow this is a lot different you know i noticed she does a lot
00:33around here you know she's uh but she's feeling feeling good and um everything has gone great so
00:39far so we're just just really thankful yeah well you guys announced a few weeks ago um as you started
00:44telling friends and family this i'm sure like months ago now who maybe had like best reaction
00:49of everyone you guys told i mean both of my brothers obviously and their wives were really
00:54excited um my uh sister-in-law lynn she's always they have uh three boys and she's they've always uh
01:02wanted a girl so it's it's cool to to see her reaction to this and obviously courtney was hoping
01:08it was a girl so all the all the good things it's i just as long as courtney's good and the baby's
01:13good i'm i'm good with whatever so i'm uh i'm very excited about it though did you have a hunch either
01:18way for a girl i i thought it was gonna be a boy i i didn't think i don't know i just uh i guess
01:24you know one of my brothers has a has a girl so i do have a niece so i guess it was a possibility but
01:30i don't know how that works honestly uh i was just i was fine with whatever so we're um yeah it's it's
01:37i'm terrified and excited and just all the things but it's really cool to hear other people the way
01:42they talk about it and courtney sister laura's had a uh a baby about a year and a half ago and so
01:48she's been dealing with that being an aunt loving that so it just feels feels like good uh good
01:52timing for sure and i won't ask what the name is but have you guys landed on a name uh we're you know
01:58i think we're leaning something family yeah oriented from both of our families so it's uh i know that's
02:04a special special thing so uh we're i think we're close we got a few good options all right good well
02:10we'll talk music now your latest single forever to me and the top five this was your first dance
02:16at your wedding with courtney had she heard the song before that day yeah i had i mean i'd like to
02:22say i kept it for the uh you know the celebration but i did not i had to play it for as soon as we
02:28wrote it i just knew you know i had kind of i wasn't like trying to find my wedding song it just i'd
02:34had some songs written love songs that were different and i you know i was like i just not just wasn't
02:39feeling it for that and i just when we wrote that one it just kind of the whole vibe of it just felt
02:44like i was like this could be this could be it you know and so i was excited and i told her about it
02:48and sent her the little work tape of it um and she she loved it and it just kind of just seemed right to
02:54to use that one but it was a lot of pressure i mean that's a different type of song to write
02:58and i'm just so thankful that people out there have you know been able to compare their stories to it
03:03and just uh it's i don't know been cool to have a different type of song out there for me it's you
03:08know something personal but obviously it's something a lot of people can relate to so have you had has
03:12there been any other song that you put out that people have like used as a first dance song i'm
03:15like trying to think of your catalog in my head golly definitely not i didn't have these types of songs
03:21the majority of my career so i was the i think the songs they were listening to at the bars uh ordering
03:27drinks is the kind i've had but this is uh yeah i don't i think you know obviously you should be
03:33here i think some people have used it in like moments like you know lifetime thing but not
03:37like a love song or anything like this so it's been it's been neat to kind of see that as well
03:42very much a new era for you talk more about the day that you guys wrote this song and kind of how
03:48it all came together yeah we were uh it was in january a couple years back we were at the national
03:53championship the year michigan won i'll never forget that and i just last minute asked my
03:58buddies graylin james i was like hey you want to go out on the road right i got a show this weekend
04:02at the national championship we'll get tickets to the game and maybe we can write some he's like yeah
04:07it's like you mean to bring somebody i said yeah who are you thinking he said rocky block i was like
04:11dude i've been been wanting to write with rocky and uh so that was our first kind of trip together
04:16and we were the first night we were there we were kind of up late talking about what we're going to
04:19write the next day and they said do you have your wedding song and i was like no i don't think we've
04:24we've actually nailed that down and they were kind of talking to me and asking me about courtney and
04:29somewhere i said you know that she's forever to me and they kind of both looked at each other and
04:35like we have to write that and so kind of got a rough start on it and by the time i woke up the
04:39next morning graylin and them had the kind of guitar riff down and it just we literally were almost
04:45late to the game because i was like i could not care less about uh you know making it on time to
04:50the game let's finish this song and we did and you know it's a special song to us and i've been cool
04:55hearing other people's stories and uh to get to write it at such a you know i love sports so to have
05:00that story around it's pretty pretty cool that's awesome and then the new album out june 27th spanish moss
05:0621 songs on here talk about why these 21. yeah it's you know the process was you know parts of it were
05:14great parts of it weren't ideal but it just i think that's what makes albums it's literally
05:19different seasons of life happen in between albums and you know i that's what i've always
05:24tried to do that i said you know the best song wins but you know when you're working on something
05:29for over two and a half years i think you build up stuff that you love and it just kind of that's
05:34you know that's a new thing people are putting out a bunch of songs and i but i certainly didn't
05:38want to just put out 21 songs to put them out i mean these are all i had to leave a few off that you
05:43know i wish i wouldn't have but it just kind of just felt right you know i usually have like 12
05:48songs this is 12 backwards 21 that's not why we did that but it is uh you know it's going to give
05:54the fans the way people consume music and you know they're after a few months of album being out they're
05:58ready for something else so we're going to give them something to hold them over for a little bit
06:02but i'm not going to let it go two and a half years for my next uh next project but i really do think
06:07that the whole process the you know the long as forever to me has been out uh it's allowed me to
06:13get this album just right and uh timing is is everything and i really do it's another instance
06:19i've been proven wrong like this is how it's supposed to supposed to happen and i really do
06:23think the album uh will you know be a result of that for sure one of the things that i noticed
06:28looking at it is just kind of like the number of people you worked with on this album 46 writers
06:34on yeah i didn't wow i didn't even know that well i literally i couldn't figure it out but i
06:38literally put it into chat gpt and i was like how many different people around yeah no that's i mean
06:44you know that was a combination of over like i've been saying over two years and
06:49a lot of different songs different songwriters but also producers i mean that's kind of when i
06:53branched out a few years back is there's just so many talented people in this town and a lot of the
06:57times these people write the songs with you and you know when you're in the room and you're you have
07:03the vibe going it just it's hard to recreate that sometimes so i wanted to give people a chance that
07:08wrote the song if they produced and just let's just do it man let's keep the same energy and like
07:13devin dawson i've always been a fan of his and getting to write um spanish moss with him and a
07:18couple other buddies but then for him to you know step in and produce it and he and him to say you know
07:24that's the first time anybody's trusted him to to do something like that is just that means a lot
07:29to me because i've been a fan of his and to have that song with him and just stories like that you
07:32know there's people will bundy i've never worked with will before and uh to have him do a few uh
07:38jimmy robbins zach crowell jordan schmidt i mean it's just yeah it's almost we were joking like who
07:42didn't produce it but uh but i think that i think it did make the album what it is and i think there's
07:47a lot of different uh types of songs on there and it just kind of fit each producer so we're we're
07:51excited about it for sure to me i thought it was such a cool thing because it kind of like
07:55like what a cool way to just like support this town and the community of creatives here that's
08:00and i'm so glad you noticed i know you understand that and to me you know come up through the
08:05songwriting world i just it's hard to get songs on albums that you know even people putting 20
08:10songs it's still hard i mean there's a lot of talented writers out there and um everybody brings
08:14something different you know i think it's cool to branch out but then you know also have the people
08:18that have written with you uh you know through this whole whole time too so it's uh it's a process but
08:25everyone's unique and this album is definitely unique lots of ups and downs wondering when or
08:30if it was ever going to even be done and to now just be excited about it again there's no better
08:35feeling like we all got into music because of the way i think it makes us feel in some way and
08:40sometimes being in the middle of it is take some of that away as sometimes but it's you know when it
08:44comes back it always does and it's just uh it feels feels right so yeah i can only imagine like the
08:50the emotional roller coaster you go on trying to put an album together and then decide when it's going to
08:54come out and like the timing of like it's just insane it's a lot everything has to have a reason
09:00and like you know have a purpose and it's just uh when you're being creative sometimes that doesn't
09:04work like that you just you are waiting but i think me just being able to do it this long
09:10one of the things you might not know is just knowing when it's right you know i could have easily
09:14been like this is you know we've got a good album here but i think the success of the last one just put
09:19a good kind of pressure on you like i just it's not it ain't there yet and uh to finally have that
09:25feeling like all right i want to go listen to it in my truck over and over like that's a good feeling
09:30you know i kind of i didn't have that for a while and just to to have that back it just knew like this
09:34is now it's right so we'll uh we'll see what everybody thinks about it but it's definitely um
09:39it was a different process for me is your truck where you usually go to listen to songs like is that
09:44you're like is that where you go yeah just because i mean you know obviously they have different sets
09:48of headphones and we all the team that you know we're all listening to proven stuff and um but to
09:53me i like to get out there in the car where people are just going to be listening to it or obviously i
09:58love um golf and just to you know listen to music in carts i like to if i'm out just hitting balls by
10:04myself i might just check it out out there and just to hear it you know in places people are really
10:09gonna listen to it and uh yeah but i think my yeah the vehicle just by myself is is a good place
10:16to listen it always takes me a couple listens like i'll do like headphones kind of just like listen to
10:20it on like a crappy iphone speaker but then like the car is always the true test yeah it's wild
10:25because it does hit differently in different places it really does and i mean to me you know
10:29i'm living with the demos of the songs and then you're doing the album cut and it sounds a little
10:33different and you've listened to the demo a thousand times and it just throws you off for a minute
10:38and you got to remember nobody else has heard this it's fine it's just uh it's a lot that goes
10:42into it that people don't you know see to get it just right but obviously we're already i know we
10:46overthink things as well so it's uh you know it's been fun getting it just right and i i just can't
10:52wait to have new music out i mean that helps everything the touring the you know people are ready
10:57for for new music and i'm ready to me and the band to get in there and start learning these
11:01new songs and take them on the road for sure talk about deciding to name the album after spanish moss
11:07yeah uh you know that's always interesting how that happens i mean we had you know you name it
11:12after a song sometimes you name it you know we've had one with my name obviously uh and this one just
11:18i don't know when we were writing spanish moss it just uh it started with a a story uh i'll try to
11:24make this quick as i can but we were playing golf down 30a and we pulled up this hole and jordan
11:29mint and was like what's that stuff called and i was like what spanish moss and and he's like yeah
11:34that's it that's it and i was like dude i yeah i grew up all around that my i was telling this
11:38story about my dad um a place he loved outside of savannah on the coast and i just remember you
11:44know all the spanish moss around there and it made me think of this story one of the last times i was
11:49with him i left to go back uh for christmas to my mom's and i got home from the coast and i looked
11:55back and there was like something hanging out of my gas cap and i walked back and i looked at it
12:00it was a handful of spanish moss he had i guess slid in there in my gas tank just that's just how
12:04he was he was um thoughtful and he i guess wanted me to think of him when i saw spanish moss so i
12:10told them that story and they're like freaking out they're like do we have to write this and it you
12:14know song where they come from sometimes don't always end up how they're written and obviously
12:18this song doesn't sound anything you know like that story but it just it's crazy how songs start and
12:24how they're born and where they end up and uh to me just having that personal connection to spanish
12:29moss and then i honestly i've never done anything that felt like that the song it just felt like a
12:34new vibe and just uh something cool to name a project and i just i could not be more proud of it
12:39the the actual album cover uh jordan menton if you look at the real picture i'm in the bottom of it like
12:44walking off the green but we cropped it up to where you could see the spanish moss but we took the
12:48picture the day we had the idea of the song and just the whole sometimes it all comes together and
12:53it just feels um you know how it should and that's just that's one of those songs that was worthy of
12:59naming the album after and i think um you know i can't wait for people to hear all of them because
13:02i think it's it's just a different stuff different stuff than i've done before i think for sure i got
13:07the chills when you were telling that story because i know it's a little long but i just it's very
13:11important i think to this yeah no i think it's really important and it's probably like one of those
13:15stories about your dad that like you wouldn't and you would not have thought of that if jordan hadn't
13:20said it so it's got to feel so like that because i mean you think about stuff and what we do and that is
13:26that's scary if we would not have if i wouldn't have been in the cart with him that day it would
13:30have never had like just stuff like that i mean it just makes it gives me chills because you just
13:35don't ever know you you know you look for songs you try to write them there but it just they just
13:40come out of moments you got to be paying attention and that's one that you know that kick that whole
13:46vibe of the album like started that day and it just uh you just never just never know so that's really
13:52beautiful besides spanish moss what other songs from the record are you excited for people to hear
13:57oh man there's uh obviously all of them but i've lived with you know some of them longer than others
14:02that we done we did first and you know there's obviously some great ones in there and then some
14:06of the ones at the very end i feel like completed the entire album so i don't know uh dale jr is a
14:13title that i think people are gonna be like what is that it's it's not what you think it is it's a very
14:17special song to me i think that's uh a unique one uh on there for sure um we can always move on is
14:25just it just feels like a summer jam i really am excited for people to hear those because i've been
14:30singing about you know real life moments some serious stuff but i you know some of these fun
14:35songs are kind of what you know got me into the whole thing so i still like to have those and this
14:40is one that i think it's obviously my wife's favorite her sister's favorite so it's i think uh i think
14:45they're gonna gonna like that one and uh trying to think yeah i think it's fun for you to like be
14:50putting out a record like the week before fourth of july it is yeah to have some of those songs i
14:54mean because there's some the ones that aren't so fun on there as well but i just think you know
14:58trying to find that balance and you know getting older and what can i still sing about and what it's
15:02just uh it's it's different you know but it's still awesome to get to do it and uh you know those
15:07are just a few there's one on there called country boy can't survive um it's it's interesting
15:13uh when i heard that title i was like can't survive and so just the way we wrote that i
15:18wrote that the day before we went in the studio so i think that'll be a lot of people's i think
15:22they'll love that one too so uh just all of them i can't wait for people to hear them all and one
15:26we're but it's fun getting to put out songs as we go you know getting building up the hype to the
15:32album comes out because it's been a long time coming and um i'm just excited for the ones we're
15:36getting to to put out to the to the whole project's out for sure talk about happy hour sad tour you
15:41just announced this last week you got so block graylin james and logan crosby coming out with
15:46you talk about bringing those three guys yeah i mean that's uh you know happy hour sad that's
15:52another one of my favorite songs on there and it just felt like something we could definitely do
15:55you know i feel like everybody on there likes to have a good time and just felt like uh happy hour
16:00sad was the right call but then to have priscilla i've been a fan of hers for a while now and anytime
16:04i've ever been around her she's just so cool man and i uh i've i've been you know always pulled for
16:09her and to have her out um and her fans and all that it's just gonna be it's gonna be really cool
16:15so um i love you know getting to take people on tour that i believe in it's just i've been fortunate
16:20enough to go on tours with people that that did the same for me so just getting the chance to
16:25you know bring some people out i love what they do and um to have them get in the crowd pumped up i
16:30mean i could not think of anybody better you know me and graylin are tight and one of my favorite
16:34writers and just you know logan um he's a georgia boy like me i think so he's i don't know him as
16:40well but um we you know text back and forth i'm looking forward to having him out so he's al dean's
16:46cousin he's right yeah yeah so we haven't spent a whole lot of time together but i know we will
16:50change that on tour so uh just excited to get back out there you know this year was kind of supposed
16:55to be lighter on purpose you know we did the um australia new zealand thing for a couple weeks but
17:00other than that we're you know doing festivals in the summer and the fall tour is really what
17:04we're gearing up uh you know getting this album out late june and then uh getting the tour of
17:08these new songs and um you know can't wait for to see all the people out there man that's what
17:13what makes it fun the crowd so for sure we're talking about you know all the life stuff you've
17:17got going on between like putting out a single record all these things is baby coming before or after
17:22tour like maybe right in the middle i don't know oh gosh yeah it's been a challenge my
17:28guy kevin meads at wma i know he's been struggling trying to keep up with my schedule and make sure
17:34it all works but that's why you you have folks on your team like that because this is a once in a
17:38lifetime uh deal here so trying to figure out how when i need to shut it off and and be at home but
17:44then they come early you know it's just a who knows so we're we're uh we're gonna get the tour going
17:49and and i have some some off time around when the babies do and um we'll pick back up after that
17:54probably a little sooner than courtney would like me to pick it back up but we'll uh you know we're
17:59good i feel for you guys always with this because it feels like it always like you plan these dates
18:03out like a year in advance you never really know so it's and it's our first one yeah so we've we've
18:08never done this so it's just uh i think we'll learn as we go and and if something were to happen
18:13hopefully the fans you know they understand and i've gotta i've gotta be there for that but this is uh
18:18it's just that's a good problem to to have we're we're gonna get to do shows and um finish up the
18:24year with new music a new baby and uh just you know putting a new song out at some point so we're
18:29uh things are looking good and i was excited for you when we back to tour just like bringing graylin
18:34out because he like had so much stuff on this album you're featured on one of his new songs so i feel
18:38like it's a good place for you guys to do more right yeah we've yeah we've done a couple shows uh
18:43together before and we i love writing with him so just to me i mean he's a golf buddy too so it just makes
18:49makes sense you know and i'm happy for him his new stuff he's got coming out he's out there uh
18:54you know killing it i remember that kind of schedule is it's tough on people they don't see that what the
18:59price you pay to um you know have a song out there and to be touring and stuff but he's you know he's
19:05one of my favorites so we're gonna get definitely gonna that's a good point we're gonna write some
19:09songs and hopefully you know when you can go out there and do what you love and then add some new
19:13stuff to it um you know while you're out there touring new songs that can't beat that so for
19:18sure he had like a really sweet post talking about you know when he first came to town like you were
19:21the person he kind of wanted to emulate when you were talking about you know how you moved here as
19:25a writer i'm sure people ask you all the time because i don't think you meant to become an artist
19:29right like that kind of like started to happen and you went with it so like what advice do you have
19:33to people who are like i want to be get out of being just a songwriter to also being an artist yeah
19:37it just it kind of depends i mean that's a personal choice you know i i've played shows
19:43all through college and i didn't write songs i just learned how to entertain i love being on stage
19:49so when i moved here yeah i didn't i wasn't like i'm gonna go get a record i really just wanted to
19:52be a better songwriter i had become like just it consumed me songwriting and being a better songwriter
19:58and you know doing that um and you know working on my craft getting to where i could you know write
20:03my own music and then having the experience on stage it just kind of came together so i would
20:08yeah anybody that's just writing and wants it just depends i mean it's a lot of travel and uh
20:14a lot of things you don't see that you have to do it but if you you know you want your music to get
20:19heard sometimes that's the best way it's so hard to get other people to record them sometimes you got
20:22to record them yourself if you believe in them and you've got people that other people that are
20:26willing to back you and they believe in them and um yeah but graylin i did i told him i was like
20:31i mean you got such a cool voice and it's all about delivery i mean you know the way you can
20:35deliver songs people believe you or not and i just i've always loved what he did and that's cool of
20:40him to to think that but hey a lot of people uh gave me a nudge and gave me that confidence as well
20:46to go chase it because it really does seem crazy you know when you think about it but it's you know
20:51it's it starts with taking that chance there's a lot of people out there that probably could have but
20:56never or weren't able to take that chance and i think you know if you do it you can always look back and
21:01say at least i gave it a shot and i think that's my i'm so glad that i didn't have an option i knew
21:06i was going to be in the music business somehow it might not be a writer it might not be an artist
21:09but i love music too much to not to not be around it every day so exactly i want to run through uh
21:14because while we have you on the show we're playing a bunch of your songs i want to run through some of
21:17the songs that you wrote and just the story behind them um can you talk about story behind never say
21:21never which you recorded with laney yeah wow i mean we wrote this song years ago me and chase
21:28mcgill and jesse alexander we're as the end of reason to drink tour i think laura and elena was
21:33out dustin maybe was out i can't remember we were in new orleans last show of the tour and we i remember
21:39writing that song and kind of we on purpose i had never had a duet like that and you know just the
21:45i remember i was thinking it was cool the answering the back and forth you know even starts with
21:50you know the girl part on there and um you know we wrote it and it just it felt like a great song
21:55then it just took a couple years for it to kind of finally find its home and laney was um you know
22:00coming off her first big hit uh things a man ought to know and uh it just kind of worked perfectly i
22:07you know when i sent it to her i just couldn't i remember telling her she was on vacation too and i
22:12did not mean i know she was just off the road and did not want to be bothered but thank god she
22:17responded to the text because you know she made that song a lot of what what it is you know you got
22:21to have a good duet partner and i just i'm so thankful that she was willing to do that and to
22:26see what you know she's going on to do is just i could not be there's not a better person in the
22:31world nobody that deserves it more than than her but yeah that was the kind of the story i sent it
22:35to her on vacation she listened and she said i'm in and i just i remember telling her i couldn't see
22:41nobody else singing i told my mama other than her the first line of the song so it worked out and uh
22:47you know i think it helped both of us so really cool i remember talking to you around that time
22:51just saying like oh you got you locked in laney at the right moment because that was like from there
22:57it just yeah and i've seen videos i mean i think she still talks about it before she plays it at
23:02shows and just you know that's really cool she's on top of the world and certainly um a small i just
23:08i'm thankful to have her on the song and it just uh she's just a good person and i'm so thankful
23:13she is you know one of the new faces of country music and will be for a long time and you know
23:18when somebody that talented is that good of a person it's just it makes you pull even harder
23:22for them so i uh love laney and duck and her whole uh whole camp for sure all right and story behind
23:28i hope you get lonely tonight wow this is can you remember crazy yeah i'll try to make it quick as i
23:34can but i remember i didn't have a record deal uh fgl was out on tour with luke um whatever year that was
23:40um early on and i was out there writing we wrote this me michael carter and brian and tyler wrote
23:47this song the day i remember listening to it in the little vip room later on that night everybody's
23:52having drinks and we're just like blaring it on this beats box or whatever we had back then and uh
23:58you know comes out uh or it comes out on my album but before that the quick story we uh we knew we
24:04loved it and i think somehow jason aldean heard it or something and loved it and was maybe wanting
24:10to record it and fgl was like yeah definitely give it to aldean you know i mean i don't have anything
24:15going on but i'm trying to get a record deal at the time and um you know we taught them into letting
24:19me keep it for my myself even though i could have used the jason aldean cut and they you know obviously
24:25that was would have been a great move and um jason was cool about it and i just remember carrie
24:29fighting for that song for me because i just it's all about the songs and having something to follow
24:34up chilling that that was my second single and the song that i played during radio tour and just
24:39people were like this is going to be another you know hit i think and that just it that was my
24:43second single and it kind of carried the momentum from the beginning but yeah we wrote that on the
24:48road before i ever had a record deal and some of those songs like that you're trying to get other
24:52people to record you end up needing them yourself so uh just everybody involved with that was just a cool
24:58cool thing if you know i'd like to think i'd be all right if i wouldn't have that song but you just
25:03it was the perfect follow-up and it's kind of uh every song you know even though the format and
25:09just the landscapes kind of changed and the sounds and all that kind of stuff but it's just you know
25:13those are the songs that kind of got you where you are so it's cool to have that and then we're
25:17you know the kind of direction we are going now so yeah so was that like t-shirt selling days for luke
25:22what's that was that someone you're selling no it was like a little bit later it was after i was
25:27you know writing and then had some cuts yeah i think we'd already written this is how we roll
25:31and some of that's the roller coaster and that was just one that i was out there that weekend and we
25:36we wrote and ended up being a hit on my debut album so pretty uh pretty crazy how songs for sure and then
25:43i know we've talked about this before but can you talk about the day that you guys wrote she had me at
25:47heads carolina because i think it was i was trying to find the audio from it but i swear at some point i sat down
25:51with tr and he's like i walked out of that writing session and i was like that song ain't going nowhere
25:55like what did we just write i know he had to go pick up his kids or something so he left and uh
25:59thank god we got it right and uh but no he he played a big part now that he was the original
26:05person i called and just it was planned to be a feature you know me and him do the song and um just
26:11it depended on what angle we wrote the song in and i knew you know just what he would kind of sing
26:15and wouldn't and it just we landed on the angle we thought would be best for both of us and it just
26:20turns out i'm the one that sang it but the day we wrote it we didn't have a lot of time it was
26:25i was literally cutting the next day or two or something to finish the my last album it seems
26:29like it always comes down to the last minute but thankfully it has but um yeah we wrote that song
26:36and it just when we first did it though it really wasn't right i knew it i was like man i just missing
26:40something i think we need to go back and so me and ashley gorley and we sat in the room and i think just
26:45kind of you know tweaked it a little bit more and finally got it to where you know when we played it for
26:49somebody they just flipped out and that's uh that was it but that was one of the last songs i recorded
26:54on my last album and it turns out to be one of the biggest songs of my career the one that people wait
27:00on the whole show now you know we make them wait a little bit to hear that one but it's just um it's
27:06it's wild that's another wild story of how that happened and last minute and i can't imagine the last
27:11project without that song and you know the things it's done for for my whole camp so it's been really cool
27:17it was career changing for you but then i also feel like it was kind of changing for the genre
27:20because when i think about like all the people that have used interpolation since then and had
27:24really cool songs like that's like a i always think like you know certain songs can't exist without
27:29like another somebody said to me once they're like you know uh hardy never writes one beer if eric
27:34church doesn't have two pink lines or something yeah you know what i mean yeah it's just that's what
27:38i'm saying i mean it's all inspires you know the next whoever that is and i think to you know have
27:44songs like that or they don't happen all the time but to be you know so i'm not the first one to ever
27:49do that either so it's just uh but to be you know to see some come after it it's nice to be somewhat
27:55first uh you know usually the ones that you're scared of i was terrified i was like i'm going to get
28:00crushed for this and you know you just usually those end up being the biggest ones the ones you're
28:06scared so there's a few like that on this new album that i know they're great but it's just you have
28:10that still like people are gonna you know but it's just it is what it is i'm um you know different
28:16songs for different folks and it's just uh i think we've got a a good blend of it on this uh
28:21new new album spanish moss awesome well i'm excited to hear it this summer get it to you yeah
28:27yeah it'll be great excited to see the tour this fall congratulations i feel like so many good things
28:31have been happening in your world these last few years and it's really fun to watch it's like you
28:33were saying about laney like yeah you see good things happening to a good person like it just makes
28:37you feel better about what we're all doing absolutely likewise and i uh i appreciate
28:40the time today and i can't wait for you to to hear it all awesome thanks cole thanks katie
