Another day, another must-win clash; this time in Group D. Australia & Denmark locked horns hoping for a win that will take them to the knockout stage of #Qatar2022.

Both sides were too cautious and the lone goal of the match came through Mathew Leckie's incredible solo run on the hour mark that sent the Socceroos to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2006 & only for the 2nd time in #FIFAWorldCup history.

While both France & Australia ended the group stage with six points, the reigning champions edged the team from down under on superior goal difference.

00:00At the Algenoob Stadium, it is the decisive day in World Cup Group D.
00:08Australia and Denmark come together.
00:12Both still with real strong hopes of qualification today for Australia.
00:18Will victory make certain of it, a draw will probably be enough.
00:25Denmark begin proceedings in the Algenoob Stadium.
00:30Jensen, a little more progressively than we might have expected.
00:37Scott Olsen, Lindsten, vital block by Degenek.
00:40Absolutely critical from the man who's coming it right back today.
00:45But when they start to move forward with the ball,
00:48once they start getting Ericsson 30, 40 yards from goal, you've got to tighten up.
00:51See, that's too easy.
00:53Finding holes again, Jensen fed by Brathwaite.
00:56We didn't feel he had a lot on.
00:59Matt Ryan equal to the challenge.
01:02It's far too easy, they're wide open there.
01:06I mean, that's just a simple ball round the corner.
01:09Jensen's delivery could be useful.
01:16Kaspris Michael thinking about something, look at this again here.
01:19Well, Mailer where he likes to be, causing problems.
01:24Showing the outside.
01:25Oh!
01:26And somehow smuggled away by Ryan.
01:28It was a really uncomfortable moment for him.
01:31Well, Scott Olsen had an opportunity to shoot there.
01:35Jensen.
01:36Scott Olsen!
01:37Oh, and he really didn't get hold of that at all.
01:41And here's Lindstrom.
01:44Red shirts arriving.
01:45He's won his battle.
01:48And Behic on the gallop.
01:56Lindstrom.
01:57A little injection of pace.
02:00Not a quality of cross.
02:04Will be kept alive by Lindstrom, who's done really well.
02:10And then Felti was pulled back by Danik.
02:14Referee agrees.
02:15And both full-backs in the book now.
02:17It's rather well-timed.
02:22Behic, it's all very intricate.
02:23Golbert losing his footing.
02:28I imagine the message has got through.
02:30Here's a break led by Lecky.
02:31He's all on his own.
02:32No help whatsoever.
02:35Matthew Lecky!
02:36Here he goes.
02:41He didn't lead the support.
02:43He did it on his own.
02:45I'm going to have to do it all myself.
02:47And he did exactly that.
02:49Great goal, wasn't it?
02:50Brilliant finish.
02:51Look at Behic, right in the middle of the screen.
02:53Running forward.
02:55The ball is delivered to him perfectly.
02:57Now he's still got tons to do from this area.
03:00He's got two people he's got to get past.
03:02And the shot, I think, goes through Mahler's legs.
03:06Which gives Kasper Schmeichel no chance at all.
03:10Look at that.
03:11Incredible.
03:14Backus.
03:19Getting them up the pitch.
03:22And also forcing the challenge that results in a yellow car.
03:25Lindstrom hoping to unsettle Degenek.
03:28That hasn't really happened all night.
03:31Skorv.
03:33Ericsson drifting.
03:34Able to pick it up.
03:36Oh, and Ryan does enough.
03:41Backus.
03:44Moy.
03:46It's Australia Day at the World Cup Finals.
03:52Another green and golden generation is born.
03:57Australia 1, Denmark 0.
