00:00Hi and welcome to In the Doghouse with Gloria, I am Kristen Herman, this of course is Gloria,
00:26and for November we are talking about, you know, giving thanks, obviously, eating a whole lot, it's a great month for that,
00:32but it's also Adopt a Senior Dog Month, and Gloria, as you can see, is a senior dog, she is 10 years old,
00:40and she is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and adopting a senior dog is a really great idea,
00:45and we're here to tell you all the reasons why.
00:47What a lot of people don't realize is that when shelters become overcrowded, older dogs are among the first to be euthanized,
00:52and luckily Justice Rescue is a no-kill shelter, but not all shelters are,
00:57and there are so many great adoptable dogs out there that are older, and Justice Rescue has a lot of great options.
01:03One of the great reasons is that, you know, puppies are really cute, but they're not potty trained, they're not housebroken,
01:09and a lot of senior dogs, most senior dogs are, they also know many of the basic commands, like sit, lay down, paw, all of those things already,
01:18you don't have to teach them anything, Gloria knew the basics, she never had an accident, not even once, and she's 10 now, you know, that's pretty cool.
01:26Oh, and Gloria wanted me to tell you that you can teach an old dog new tricks, she says that they have a better attention span, so it's easier.
01:32Older dogs are also calmer and less energetic than younger dogs, they have all of their adult teeth,
01:38so they chew less, and they're better with children, and they're really good snuggle buddies, they'll go to bed with you,
01:43they're just so happy to be at home with you, and we'll give you unconditional love.
