00:22The guys and the ladies and gentlemen of Athletic Brewing heard there was dry January going on,
00:28and I was taking part now for my, like, fourth or fifth or sixth.
00:32I drink so much, I don't even know how many years I've been doing it.
00:35And they brew beer that tastes like craft beverages.
00:42Well, you tell me. That somehow ends up with no booze.
00:45Yeah. I mean, you kind of nailed it.
00:47We make non-alcoholic beer that tastes just like beer.
00:52The easiest way to tell you is to open up that can and get right into it.

02:51So when I do dry January, I run from alcohol.

04:38Where do you come up with the name Athletic Brewing?
04:40American Pacific Northwest Hops.
04:42So originally-
04:43Do you work out with this stuff or stuff?
04:44That was the plan to attract the athletes.
04:49And for years we set up at the finish lines of Spartan Races, Iron Mans.
04:54And some of your local listeners might have seen me at finish lines of trail runs.
04:59And we do a lot of stuff in AC with the AC Tri and Escape the Cape.
05:05We were at the finish line down there.
05:06It's funny.
05:07I mentioned this to one of my triathlete friends that I ride with.
05:13And they said, oh, yeah, Athletic Brewing.
05:14I've heard of those guys.
05:15Right.
05:16And now we're just in a whole other game.
05:19We just didn't realize how big the audience actually was and how well this fits into everybody's life.
05:24Not just people who are training for a race on the weekend.
05:27Everybody could take advantage of this.

05:33Yeah.
05:33It tastes like something I just went up the street into Ocean Township to go to my favorite brewery and said, oh, what do you got?
05:42Oh, we got this new light IPA.
05:43You should try it.
05:44I can't believe there's no alcohol in this.
05:47This is unbelievable.
05:48I trick my buddy's family, friends with it all the time.
05:50You could easily.
05:51I blind taste them all the time.
05:52You could easily put this in a glass, no questions asked, and people would say, yeah, give me any more of that.
05:58And they wouldn't be able to tell it doesn't have any alcohol in it.

07:02I feel like I'm in rehab, but I want to like hug you in the same process to be here because this is non-alcoholic beer.
07:11And yet it tastes.
07:13Just like beer.
07:14Like I can't, I couldn't tell the difference.
07:16No, not at all.
07:16I could not.
07:17If you put this next to any of my favorite craft, I mean, if you put it next to some of the craft beers, I would be able to tell the difference in about 20 minutes.
07:26Because I'd be like, oh, there's the booze coming in.
07:29Maybe there's something to talk about in the placebo effect here.
07:32I mean, you guys drink enough beer and you've drank enough beer for your whole life that now you're drinking beer and your brain's going, hey, it's time to, you know.

07:42I mean, I feel like I would fail a breathalyzer drinking this, but it's non-alcoholic.

08:05All right, so we tried the Upside Dawn, which was like a golden ale.
08:11What's crazy is that I've tried some other non-alcoholic beverages.
08:14All right.
08:15And they have sucked.
08:16Well.
08:17They have tasted like water with food coloring and some skunk.
08:25Yeah, so non-alcoholic beer has been around for a little while, right?
08:30A good 30 years.
08:31Yeah, I used it as an excuse when I was in high school to tell mom and dad, no, I wasn't
08:36drinking.
08:37It was NA.
08:38So, luckily, my owners had the fruition to say, why can't we make this taste good, right?
08:44Like, why can't we have a product here that actually tastes like beer?
08:48And they set off on a project, got laughed at a whole bunch of times, and finally came
08:55up with an amazing product.
08:57Yeah, like they boil it and they add the hops and they boil that.
09:00So, that's what traditional NA was.
09:02They would make beer, right, to 5.5% and then boil it off or aggressively filter it out.
09:08We've come up with a way to finish the beer to completion at .5 or less alcohol, which
09:14helps us retain hop characteristics and yeast profiles, just like beer.
09:21It's nuts.
09:22It's full-on nuts.
09:25We've got one more beer to try here.

09:27It came out a little later, but it's really been lighting the world on fire.

09:33So, if you drink IPAs, you know where the IPA world has gone.

11:16So I pour a finger or two of my favorite brown liquid, and I would chase it down with some
11:23heavy IPA.
11:24Well, I put a little less booze behind that and chase it with this.
11:28Getting all the alcohol you need out of the bourbon, right?

11:31Get the flavor out of the beer that you're looking for.
