00:11Hi, today we have Rashida on the phone right now who's honoring her husband Robert for First Responder Friday.
00:18Good morning, Rashida. How are you?
00:20I'm well. How are you guys?
00:21I'm doing great. So, first and foremost, you are also a first responder, so we appreciate what you do for our community, Rashida.
00:28Okay, and you guys actually met on the job. So, tell us about how that meeting went down and what you guys do and where you serve in our community.
00:35So, we are with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
00:39We actually met out at a bar, and when he asked to buy me a drink, he was like, don't you work for the Sheriff's Office?
00:47And I was like, no way.
00:49That's great.
00:50And he was like, no, you do. I've seen you at work. And I was like, no, it's not me.
00:54And then, eventually, I told him it was. And then, of course, at that point, you see him every day.
01:00Right.
01:00And we went on a couple of days after that, and we decided to tell everybody at work.
01:06So, I went to a different division, and we kept hanging out and talking.
01:09And a year later, he asked to marry me.
01:11And we've been married ever since then, and it's been super awesome.
01:16He used to help me on calls. I would call him for help on reports.
01:20He's been with the agency for 12 years, and I've been for about five.
01:24So, he knew a lot more, but he helped me all the time.
01:27So, we just got closer and closer.
01:29What a great story. I love that.
01:31And how long have you guys been married?
01:32So, as of August 9th, we've been married for two years.
01:36Let's go! Way to go! Rashida and Robert, I love this.
01:40You know, Rashida, this is interesting, because I don't think we've talked to a couple
01:43where they both worked at the same place and did the exact same thing as a first responder.
01:48It's got to be awesome to have not only, you know, your partner that you love,
01:51but also a person that really understands what you go through on a daily basis.
01:56Because I know you guys are trying to decompress after a shift.
01:59I mean, is that something that really plays into your relationship?
02:02It's honestly, like, the biggest advantage ever.
02:05I know sometimes people think that working with somebody and being married to them is like,
02:10you know, it could be too much, but we're in different divisions,
02:12and he's now recently been promoted to corporal, so we're on completely different opposite ends.
02:17But him having so much knowledge, if I come home with anything, he's taught me how to decompress.
02:22Wow.
02:22And so then, if I go through something on the streets and things that we've seen and heard,
02:27he's also seen and heard, so it's someone to talk to about it.
02:30And then we both know how to not talk about it and to live normal lives together.
02:35But him being there and understanding, especially him having more years on,
02:38he's actually, like, a clutch for me.
02:40But for him, he does have someone he can vent to and open up to,
02:43where he doesn't have to feel that he has to be, you know, a macho man all the time,
02:47which actually helps him in the long run to still live that normal life
02:50while we're out there helping everybody every day on their worst day.
02:53I know what you're saying about the macho man thing,
02:55but I'm sure, Rashida, you get to see that soft side,
02:57which is a great thing to have, that great balance.
02:59Oh, yeah.
02:59All right, so when you're not working, you guys are out having fun.
03:02What are some things you guys like to do?
03:03Well, we have an 18, well, 19-month-old now.
03:06Goodness gracious.
03:07I'm a big boy, yeah.
03:09Everything happened real quick.
03:10But, so we love to hang out with him, obviously.
03:13We go to the zoo, go to the aquarium.
03:15We love the beach.
03:15We love going to Treasure Island and staying on the beach.
03:19But we love to eat.
03:20So when we find a restaurant or find something new, anything that's opened up,
03:24we're like, okay, let's go there.
03:25So date night is a huge deal, and we love to try out new foods and new restaurants.
03:30What a great story, and you guys sound like an amazing couple,
03:33and this is so awesome, and we're so thankful for your service.
