00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.
00:06Let's honor another first responder on 99.5 QYK.
00:11I've got Suzanne on the phone today and she is nominating her mother, Libby.
00:16Good morning, Suzanne. How are you?
00:18Good morning. Hi, I'm good. Thank you.
00:20We appreciate you reaching out to us and letting us know about your mom.
00:22So tell us about your mom, how she was a first responder and a little bit about her.
00:26Um, she worked for the sheriff's office for 14 years.
00:30She actually worked for Hillsborough County and Pinoff County and retired and then is now a school safety officer at Southern Oaks Elementary.
00:38Oh, that's a big deal.
00:41Yeah, she loves it.
00:43Those kids must feel really safe knowing that they have somebody with her past working there, huh?
00:47Oh, yeah. She loves it. She loves the kids. She loves what she does. She just can't retire.
00:52Now, let me ask you this. Growing up, you know, your mom's always worked for the sheriff's office, correct?
00:57Yes.
00:58What was that like? Because, you know, a lot of times there's not as many women in that profession, but knowing your mom chose that career, what was that like for you growing up?
01:07Um, she's pretty strict.
01:07Um, yeah, she was definitely strict on me, but it was, you know, she was fair. She's a good role model, so it wasn't too bad.
01:17Did your friends, like, want to come over to your house much, or they were like, no, let's not go there because their mom's a cop?
01:23Yeah, pretty much. That was it.
01:24Yeah.
01:25Yeah, you know, my parents always threatened to call the kids' police on me, but Suzanne's mom just goes, just come with me.
01:30Just come with me.
01:31Yeah, yeah. Just when I call, you answer and be home, and that's that. No questions asked.
01:37What was that like, you know, when your mom is out on the job and, you know, not at home? Was that worrisome for you as a kid?
01:42Like, I always, we talk about it from a spouse perspective quite a bit, but what about from a kid's perspective? What was that like for you?
01:48I mean, it was, I don't know. I didn't really look at it too much, like, negatively, I guess, because I always figured, you know, she was the hero, so she'd always be home.
01:58Absolutely.
01:58But, um, yeah, she's been my, she's been with my dad. They've been married for 52 years, so it's been a ride.
02:06But, I mean, I never really worried about it too much, I guess, as a kid.
02:09Well, what are some of the things that your mom and dad like to do when she's not working?
02:13Oh, they like to go to Biloxi in Vegas and go on cruises. They enjoy the life, that's for sure.
02:20They're balling out.
02:21Oh, yeah.
02:21Oh, yeah.
02:22They ever hit any big jackpots?
02:24Um, she is very lucky, believe it or not. I mean, she, I mean, luck follows her wherever she goes with the, like, slots and the cards.
02:31Yeah, I don't know how she does it.
02:32Well, good for her.
02:33We're going on a cruise with Libby. Cannot wait. No, but for real. Suzanne, we want to do this. We want to give you $200 in Visa gift cards from our friends at Crown Buick GMC and the Demesman and Dover Law Firm.
02:46Oh.
02:46It's just a small way for us to say thank you for her service. And it was great to hear her story and how much you respect her and look up to her. And please give our love and thanks to your mom, Libby.
02:57I will. Thank you guys so much.
02:59You got it. Thanks, Suzanne.
03:00What a great career of service. And those are the stories we love hearing. So I want to hear more from you. Who is that special person in your life? Spouse, child, relative?
03:08We want to hear their story, too. For First Responder Friday or Military Monday, you can nominate someone right now. Only takes a couple minutes. Just go to 995QIK.com.
