00:00Teaching reproductive health this week in my global health course and it's rather ironic that
00:06the cost of giving birth to a baby in the United States is higher there than anywhere else in the
00:11world, which is rather sad because they're monetizing the moment, preying on mothers
00:18who are pregnant to profit and not really being concerned much for the patient.
00:24And the costs can range anywhere from say $3,000 to $16,000 or more and even beyond, if
00:35you are having an insurance company pay for it, many times the hospital will monetize the
00:41moment and try to excessively bill and charge the insurance company until they renegotiate
00:47the true price and the cost of the birth.
00:50And furthermore, the hospitals will try to add on additional fees for the mother and
00:59even sometimes physicians will pursue cesarean births just to speed up the process and further
01:05profit from the patient, that being the mother and the various unnecessary medical interventions
01:12ranging from episiotomies to epidurals to drugs and different treatments and interventions
01:19given to the mother, which can harm the newborn baby, can further add on some prices and fees
01:28to the hospital bill at the end, but likewise it do harm to the child and the mother.
01:36So these things need to be adjusted and corrected and litigated in the United States by attorneys
01:43who actually probably care sometimes more for the patients than the own hospitals and the
01:49doctors who are merely monetizing the moment.
01:53Hello.
01:53Well, here we go.
01:57Now, here we go.
02:10Here we go.
