00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at some of the most emotionally intense and
00:08epic moments in the original Duel Monsters era.
00:1610.
00:20Bakura Confronts Pegasus The Duelist Kingdom tournament has just ended.
00:25Pegasus lost against Yugi and lost his chance at getting another Millennium Item to restore
00:31his beloved Cecilia.
00:32Think he's suffered enough?
00:34Apparently Yami Bakura doesn't think so, as he breaks into his room to confront the fallen
00:39creator.
00:46He smugly gives Pegasus a bleak tarot reading, then challenges him to a shadow game, the
00:52win against the loser's Millennium Item.
00:59Unfortunately, Pegasus is still fatigued after his duel with Yugi, so he loses the game quickly.
01:05As the victor, Bakura stands ominously over Pegasus and forcibly takes his prize, the Millennium
01:11Eye.
01:12If we don't see the eyes removal, hearing Pegasus's anguish is enough to give us the
01:17willies.

01:21Atom's Biggest Flex In the very last duel of the series, Yugi and
01:29Atom face off in a ceremonial battle.
01:32The outcome will determine if Atom is ready to move on to the afterlife.
01:42Considering they shared a brain up until now, the two are neck and neck, dishing out one
01:47iconic card after another.
01:49But then, in one of the biggest flexes in the show, Atom manages to summon not one, not
01:55two, but all three Egyptian God cards back to back.
02:07Bringing out all three legendary beasts is an enormous feat on its own, but we can't help
02:13but shiver as Atom recites Ra's ancient chant.
02:16The only thing more impressive is Yugi's strategy for slaying all three gods.
02:258.
02:26The Creator of Light With the help of Yugi and friends, Yami finally
02:31remembers his true name, King Atom.
02:41With his memories and power restored, the heroic Pharaoh takes the diabolical Zork head-on with
02:47one last ace up his sleeve, all three Egyptian gods.
02:51While Obelisk, Slipher and Ra are mighty, even they aren't enough to take on Zork alone.
02:57So Atom pulls the ultimate flex of combining the trio.
03:06Together, they form Halakdi, the Creator of Light, who eviscerates the Dark One with one
03:16beacon of light.
03:21In the actual game, anyone who tributed the God cards to summon the Creator of Light automatically
03:26wins the duel, and seeing it displayed in a final showdown is nothing short of glorious.
03:337.
03:34Yu-Gi and Joey's Song
03:36After so many brutal battles, Yu-Gi and Joey must face off in the Duelist Kingdom semi-finals.
03:53But before the match begins, the US dub of the episode surprises us with a musical montage.
04:03The clips showcase Yu-Gi and Joey's journey throughout the tournament, highlighting their
04:07personal growth, ambitions, and friendship.
04:10The song, no matter what, further emphasizes how strong their bond is.
04:15No matter the match's outcome, they'll always have each other's backs.
04:31They had no reason to include this epic music video, but we can't deny how misty-eyed it
04:36made us as we near the end of their respective journeys.
04:406.
04:41Ragnarok
04:42At last, Yu-Gi and Yami-Marek face off in the Battle City Finals to determine the fate of
04:53the world and Marek's pure half.
04:55Yami-Marek has a clear advantage with his winged Dragon of Ra, but Yu-Gi has one last
05:00ace up his sleeve, Ragnarok.
05:08By removing all his monsters from play, his Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl lead a
05:13massive army of monsters to eliminate Ra from the field.
05:17And when we say all his monsters, we mean it.
05:20From Little Karibo to both Slifer and Obelisk, they all unite to rid the world of Marek's
05:26evil half for good in a glorious, satisfying light show.
05:31Seeing Yu-Gi's entire deck on Parade was worth it alone.
05:345.
05:35The Pharaoh's Anger
05:48Following a devastating loss, Yu-Gi sacrificed his soul to save Yami's, leaving the grieving
05:54Pharaoh without his closest friend.
05:57The sniveling Weevil challenges Yami to an Orikakos duel and plays a dirty trick to rile
06:03him up.
06:04Unfortunately for Weevil, he pushes the wrong buttons and gets the full force of Yami's
06:09fury.
06:14He plays a magic card that lets him attack Weevil every time he draws a monster, and he
06:19takes full advantage of it.
06:21Even after Weevil's life points hit zero, he keeps attacking until Teya finally snaps
06:26him out of it.
06:27It was unnerving to see Yami lose his composure, but let's not pretend Weevil didn't deserve
06:32it.
06:33Please, Pharaoh!
06:34No more!
06:35Let me go!
06:374.
06:38Joey's Near Victory
06:39The Battle City semi-finals have officially begun and the first match pits Joey against Yami
06:45Marek.
06:46Joey is determined to end Marek's madness, but the latter raises the stakes by turning
06:51the match into a shadow game where both duelists feel their monster's pain.
07:07Joey feels the burn from the winged dragon of Ra, but shocks everyone by surviving the
07:12blast.
07:13If he can call out even one attack, he'll win the duel.
07:16He's even got Marek shaking in fear.
07:19No!
07:20You can't!
07:21You should be wiped out by now!
07:23Tragically, Joey collapses from exhaustion and automatically loses the duel.
07:28This loss hurts us more than it hurt Joey, but his causing Marek to panic proves that
07:34he deserves more credit as a duelist than he gets.
07:41No!
07:423.
07:43Kyber Sacrifices God
07:47Ishizu Ishtar was the woman who gave Kyber Obelisk the tormentor and inspired him to start
07:53the Battle City tournament.
07:55During the quarter-finals, the two finally phase off and Ishizu's Millennium Necklace predicts
08:01that she will win using a trap set to destroy Obelisk.
08:05Maybe I should rethink my strategy and call off Obelisk!
08:08However, after an unexpected vision of the past, Kyber changes the future.
08:13He sacrifices Obelisk to summon his beloved Blue-Eyes White Dragon, who helps him win
08:18the duel.
08:19Before I can summon my Blue-Eyes White Dragon, I must sacrifice two monsters.
08:24First this!
08:25Oh no!
08:26That's right!
08:27It's my Egyptian God card!
08:29Even disregarding Ishizu's trap, it says a lot when Kyber willingly gives up an Egyptian
08:35God for his most iconic monster.
08:38Even Ishizu is shaken up by his changing fate.
08:41Let's be honest, who wouldn't want to end a duel with their favorite God?
08:462.
08:47Exodia Obliterate
08:50Of course, we had to include one of the very first flexes in the anime.
08:54To defend his grandfather's honor, Yugi faces off against Kyber in the dueling arena.
08:59Kyber has the upper hand, with all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons on the field.
09:04However, with one lucky draw, Yugi plays one of the most legendary monsters in the game,
09:09Exodia The Forbidden One.
09:12Draw your last pathetic card so I can end this, Yugi.
09:15My grandpa's deck has no pathetic cards, Kyber.
09:19But it does contain...
09:22The unstoppable Exodia!
09:24Assembling all five pieces of Exodia is nothing short of a miracle, and guarantees an automatic win.
09:31And Yugi pulled off said miracle in the very first episode.
09:35Exodia!
09:36It's not possible!
09:38Sadly, this is the only time Yugi got to use Exodia before losing the cards.
09:43But it was well worth it.
10:08The first round of the Battle City quarter-finals pits Yugi against Yami Bakura.
10:16The lads are having the former pinned with a deadly trap.
10:20If Yugi doesn't win this round, it's all over.
10:23Fortunately, he draws just the card he needs.
10:26And in an earth-shattering display, he summons the Egyptian god, Slyfer the Sky Dragon.
10:36Slyfer's very presence dominates the arena as his enormous tail coils around the airship.
10:43And when he attacks, it's a miracle Bakura survived to tell the tale afterwards.
10:55Between the music, the visuals, and Yugi's voice acting, the anime turned the simple act of summoning a monster into a heart-stopping theatrical experience that still dazzles us to this day.
