Artists sculpt biblical scenes into Bolivian sand dunes

Artists gather in Oruro, Bolivia, to create large Easter sand sculptures depicting biblical scenes and Way of the Cross stations on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. Good Friday leads on to Easter Sunday, the most important and joyous date in the Church's liturgical calendar - commemorating the day Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead. In the western part of the country, the dunes transformed into an enormous canvas for nearly 200 Argentine, Peruvian and Bolivian artists who recreated biblical passages and the Way of the Cross stations.
