Man United defender Leny Yoro put his body on the line during his clash against Lyon.

United faced the French side in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on Thursday night. After a dramatic first leg, the scores were level at 2-2.

Goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot put the hosts 2-0 up on the night, but Lyon fought back and took the tie to extra-time thanks to strikes from Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico. The Red Devils eventually progressed by a monumental 7-6 aggregate win after coming from 4-2 down on the night to win 5-4.

However, United came under pressure towards the end of the normal time as Lyon pushed for an equaliser, and one defensive moment left fans in awe.

As Lyon's Malick Fofana cut inside the area when the score was 2-1, Yoro slipped as he attempted to keep up with the winger.

However, the Frenchman didn't give up and remarkably dived in front of the ball to block Fofana's shot with his head.

Yoro was left on the ground following his head-tackle, but after some treatment, he was able to return to action.

Speaking on TNT Sports' commentary of the clash, United legend Rio Ferdinand was left in awe of Yoro.

'I hope he's alright,' he said. 'But I can't help laughing. He slips, he loses his balance. OOOH. Look at that, he slips over. WOW.

'Surely he'll be alright, ball to head. He deserves a little clap, though; he was brave there.

'He got done in the first instance, loses his footing, but he's clamouring to get over and puts his head in the way. That's what you want from defenders, isn't it?'

Meanwhile, Robbie Savage was left shocked as he added: 'Did he just hear that? I think Yoro tackled with his head!'

The incident bore a resemblance to former United defender Phil Jones, who tackled Olivier Giroud with his head in a game against Arsenal in 2015.

Elsewhere, former England and Chelsea defender John Terry was also seen showing some impressive commitment during his career, with one particular incident against Watford in 2017, where he completed a tackle via his head, going down in folklore.
