00:00Ever had wine go bad or gotten a terrible hangover from imbibing in a glass or two?
00:04Well, this is the self-proclaimed snob-free sommelier, Warner Bowen Dowlern.
00:08And she has some wine tips and wine tricks you might be interested in.
00:12The first, store your wine out of the bottle.
00:14Don't put the cork back in the bottle.
00:16I have a way better tip that's going to change your life.
00:18If you were to put the cork back on a bottle of wine that's half empty,
00:22half of this still has oxygen inside of it.
00:24What you really want to do is reduce the amount of oxygen to wine ratio.
00:27What I recommend is a mason jar.
00:29All you do is take whatever wine you have left over,
00:33pour that into the mason jar or any kind of airtight container.
00:36There is so much less oxygen in here than in the rest of the bottle.
00:40That's all well and good if you have a glass or two left over.
00:43But what if you drink the whole thing and get a headache?
00:45Well, she's got a hack for that as well.
00:47It actually happens to me all the time.
00:49When I drink certain wines, my face would flush, it would turn red, it would get hot, I might get a headache.
00:53There are natural compounds in wines like sulfites, histamines, and tannins
00:57that some people might have more of a sensitivity to.
00:59So that could be one factor.
01:00Another important thing to note is that in the United States, wine is not regulated by the government,
01:05which means it's also not regulated by the FDA.
01:07In the U.S., wineries are legally allowed to add over 75 different additives to their wines.
01:12She says she started keeping a list of all of the wines she was drinking
01:15and found that American wines under the $15 mark were the ones giving her problems.
01:20She also recommends a glass of water between each glass of wine,
01:23adding that the wines you buy from the store aren't really meant to be aged.
01:26So if you're leaving them in your homemade cellar hoping to make a cheap wine fancy,
01:30you're better off just popping the cork now.
