00:00Hey, what's up, y'all? It is Nikki Bond, and it is another Doggy Dog Thursday with my good friend Sarah from Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, and our special guest today. Who do we have with us?
00:11This is Scooby.
00:12Scooby! Hi, Scooby.
00:14He is a couple years old. He was actually an owner-surrender that could no longer care for him, so he showed up with us. He's very sweet. He's listed as calm in our system.
00:28No way.
00:29As I was going to say, it also says the more comfortable he gets, the more active he'll get.
00:35He's very energetic.
00:36Yes, I was going to say, I think his personality is starting to come out.
00:39It is.
00:40He is also heartworm positive, which will need treatment, but we will actually pay for all the treatment. You are just responsible for getting him to the vet.
00:49Okay.
00:50And it's a pretty, I mean, it's a long treatment for them.
00:53How long would that treatment last?
00:55It's usually about eight weeks, I think. It's, they'll get a high-strength antibiotic, and then they'll get some medicine that will kill off the heartworms.
01:06Okay.
01:06The only caveat to it is they have to be relatively calm during treatment.
01:10Good luck, Scooby.
01:11Yeah, so you just kind of want to keep him a little chill and not go too crazy.
01:15All right. Is there a chance that will come back, though, once it's treated?
01:18Once it's treated, he'll need to be on prevention, which is just, you know, the monthly heart guard or sentinel.
01:23And as long as he's on prevention, he should be, should be good.
01:26Okay.
01:27He just needs to be on prevention year-round, which we recommend for everybody and all of their dogs anyway.
01:31Right.
01:32So, and his adoption fee is actually sponsored this month.
01:36He's $175 instead of, I believe, $250, which is what he usually is.
01:40Our wonderful board president, Mary Ann Wright, has actually sponsored partial fees for all of our animals this month because it is her birthday month.
01:50Oh, that's nice.
01:51So that fee again is how much?
01:53$175.
01:54And that's for all the animals at the shelter?
01:56Well, he's $175.
01:58Puppies are $175.
02:00Adult cats and dogs are actually completely fee-waved.
02:04Okay, and that's for the month of February?
02:07Yes.
02:07All right.
02:07So you have to hurry down.
02:09Yes, because they've still got about a week.
02:10Yeah, just about a week left for that.
02:12That's a great deal.
02:13So how old is Scooby?
02:14I think he's about three.
02:17Three.
02:18Hi, baby.
02:19This has a beautiful color.
02:21Yeah, he's a good boy.
02:23What type of home would you say would be, like, perfect for Scooby?
02:27We were thinking, all his stuff says, you know, just kind of a calm home, willing to give him some attention.
02:34We do suggest kids over eight, just because he is a little...
02:39Playful.
02:39Yeah, he's playful.
02:41We've also noticed that he doesn't really like being picked up.
02:44Okay.
02:45He's very snuggly.
02:46He wants to be in your lap.
02:48He loves giving kisses.
02:48I was going to say, he loves kisses.
02:50But he wants to do it on his own terms.
02:52I mean, we sat down and he's here in a couple seconds, but he's just not a big fan of actually getting picked up.
03:00Which, I mean, when he's in a home and comfortable, that might change.
03:05But at the moment.
03:07Yeah.
03:08And what type of home, again, would be perfect for Scooby?
03:10Just calmer.
03:11And if you do have a dog, we ask that you do a dog meet, which is pretty general with any dog you adopt, just to make sure they get along.
03:18And what time can they come to do the dog meet?
03:21You'll just talk to us and set it up.
03:23We just set up a time that one of our trainer, or we have a couple other staff members that are trained, they'll just bring in your personal pet.
03:29And then we'll have the shelter dog, and we do it through the fence at first, so they can sniff each other through the fence.
03:36Okay.
03:36And, you know, just kind of get used to each other.
03:38We look for some signs there to make sure they're going to get along okay.
03:40And then we'll actually introduce them and keep a close eye, make sure everything's going okay, and then as long as everything goes okay, he'd be able to go home with you.
03:49Yeah.
03:50Yes, that sounds great.
03:51So if you want to meet Scooby, you want to see him and talk to Sarah, you can visit them at Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.
03:59And can you give the website and the phone number?
04:01Website is metrodetroitanimals.org, and then phone is 313-943-2697.
04:09All right.
04:10Thank you, Sarah.
