00:00Gatwick Airport faces potential disruption as staff prepare to strike. Travel plans for holidaymakers in London could face significant disruption as staff at Gatwick Airport prepare for industrial action over ongoing disputes.
00:16The strike action is expected to continue through to April the 22nd and beyond, raising the potential for delays, cancellations and baggage issues during a busy travel period.
00:30Baggage handlers and flight dispatchers employed by Red Handling, one of the ground handling companies at the UK's second busiest airport, are set to walk out over several grievances.
00:43These include missing pension contributions, delayed wage payments and alleged breaches of shift regulations.
00:51According to the Unite Union, hundreds of workers have rejected a recent pay offer aimed at resolving the dispute, meaning the strikes will go ahead.
01:03The industrial action could affect operations for several airlines, including Delta, TAP, Airpeace and Norwegian, with around 50 flights per day at risk of disruption.
01:14Passengers flying in and out of Gatwick during this period are being advised to check in with their airlines for the latest updates.
01:23Delays at check in, longer queues and baggage handling issues are all possible outcomes of the strike action.
01:31Now, in response to the allegations, a spokesman for Red Handling stated that our shift patterns are fully compliant with UK law, with adequate breaks and downtime provided for staff.
