Two sisters appeared before a Magistrate's Court in Melaka on Thursday (April 17) to face charges following an altercation that occurred while their critically ill father was hospitalised.

00:00Two sisters appeared before a magistrate's court in Ayya Kero on Thursday, facing charges
00:10following an altercation that occurred while their critically ill father was hospitalized.
00:1647-year-old Normala Othman and 45-year-old Julaiha Othman both pleaded, not guilty,
00:23to charges of public affray when they appeared before Magistrate Uthman Abdul Ghani.
00:28The incident allegedly took place at approximately 2.50 p.m. on January 19 at Malacca Hospital's
00:36Ward 42, Bed 2A. According to sources, the dispute arose over disagreements about their father's
00:44care arrangements. Their father passed away the following day on January 20. The sisters were
00:50charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code, which carries up to six months' imprisonment,
00:56a maximum fine of 1,000 ringgit, or both upon conviction. During proceedings, Deputy Public
01:04Prosecutor Farah Nabiha Sofian requested bail be set at 6,000 ringgit for each defendant.
01:11Defense Counsel Mohamed Mawardi Zainuddin from the Legal Aid Foundation appealed for a lower amount,
01:17noting both sisters were caring for a sick mother and supporting young children.
01:21After consideration, the court granted bail at 800 ringgit for each sister and scheduled
01:27the next hearing for June 3.
