00:00The Book of Exodus, the story of Moses, a legacy of faith.
00:05Long ago, in the land of Egypt, a powerful pharaoh ruled with an iron fist.
00:11But how did the Israelites come to be in Egypt?
00:14It all began with a man named Joseph, a son of Jacob,
00:18who was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers.
00:22Through divine wisdom, Joseph rose to power as Pharaoh's right-hand man,
00:27saving Egypt from famine.
00:29Because of him, his family, the Israelites,
00:32were welcomed into Egypt and settled in the land of Goshen.
00:35As the years passed, the Israelites multiplied and thrived.
00:40But a new pharaoh, who did not remember Joseph's deeds, saw them as a threat.
00:46Fearing they would rise against him, he made a terrifying decree.
00:51Every newborn Israelite boy must be killed.
00:54Jochebed, a woman from the tribe of Levi, could not bear to lose her child.
01:00With the help of her daughter Miriam, she placed her baby boy in a basket
01:04and sent him down the mighty Nile River, praying that God would protect him.
01:10By divine fate, the basket was found by Pharaoh's own daughter, Bithia.
01:14She took pity on the crying infant and named him Moses, saying,
01:20Because I drew him out of the water.
01:23Raising him as her own in the royal palace, she ensured he had the finest education and upbringing.
01:29But Moses always felt different.
01:32He saw the suffering of his people, and his heart ached for them.
01:36One day, in a moment of anger, he struck an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite.
01:43Fearing for his life, Moses fled into the wilderness.
01:47In the land of Midian, Moses came across a well,
01:50where he saw the daughters of a priest named Jethro being mistreated by shepherds.
01:55With courage, Moses stepped in and defended them, helping them draw water for their flock.
02:00When Jethro heard of Moses' kindness, he invited him into his home.
02:06In time, Moses found peace in Midian and married one of Jethro's daughters, Zipporah.
02:12He became a shepherd, tending to his father-in-law's flocks,
02:16unaware that his greatest journey was still ahead of him.
02:20Then, something extraordinary happened.
02:23As Moses led his flock near Mount Horeb, also known as Mount Sinai,
02:28a bush burned with fire, but was not consumed.
02:32From it, a voice called out,
02:35Moses, take off your sandals, for you stand on holy ground.
02:38It was the voice of God.
02:40He commanded Moses to return to Egypt and demand Pharaoh release the Israelites.
02:46Though afraid, Moses obeyed.
02:48Let my people go.
02:50But Pharaoh's heart was hard.
02:52He refused.
02:53So, God demonstrated his power through signs and wonders.
02:58First, he turned Moses' staff into a serpent before Pharaoh,
03:03but Pharaoh's magicians imitated the miracle, and he remained unmoved.
03:08Then came the ten plagues.
03:10First, the waters of Egypt turned to blood,
03:13killing fish and making the river undrinkable.
03:16Then, an infestation of frogs swarmed the land,
03:20invading homes and beds.
03:21Next, gnats and flies filled the air, tormenting the people.
03:27A terrible disease struck the Egyptians' livestock,
03:29killing their animals.
03:31Then, painful boils broke out on people and animals alike.
03:36After that, hail rained down like fire,
03:39destroying crops and buildings.
03:41Locusts swarmed across Egypt,
03:43devouring what little was left.
03:45Then, an unnatural darkness covered the land for three days,
03:49a darkness so thick it could be felt.
03:52Yet, Pharaoh's heart remained hardened.
03:55Then, came the final and most devastating plague,
03:59the death of every Egyptian firstborn.
04:01But God provided a way for the Israelites to be spared.
04:06He instructed them to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb.
04:10That night, the angel of death passed over their homes,
04:15but in every Egyptian household,
04:17the firstborn perished,
04:20including Pharaoh's own son.
04:23Only then did Pharaoh finally relent.
04:26Pharaoh could bear no more.
04:28He finally let the Israelites go,
04:30and in their departure,
04:32the Egyptians, fearing further punishment,
04:35gave them gold, silver, and fine clothing,
04:39gifts that would sustain them on their journey.
04:42Freedom at last.
04:44But God did not leave his people alone in the wilderness.
04:48By day, he led them with a pillar of cloud,
04:50guiding them through the desert.
04:53By night, the pillar became fire,
04:55providing light and protection.
04:58Pharaoh, however, changed his mind.
05:01He sent his army to chase them down.
05:03Trapped at the edge of the Red Sea,
05:05fear filled their hearts.
05:07But Moses lifted his staff,
05:09and the waters parted.
05:11The Israelites crossed safely,
05:13but when Pharaoh's army followed,
05:15the sea crashed down,
05:17swallowing them whole.
05:19Moses had led his people to freedom.
05:21But the journey was not without trials.
05:24As they wandered the desert,
05:26the people grew hungry and cried out to God.
05:28In his mercy,
05:30he provided for them.
05:32Each morning,
05:33manna, bread from heaven,
05:35covered the ground like dew,
05:36and in the evening,
05:38quail filled their camp,
05:39giving them meat to eat.
05:41Through every trial,
05:42God remained with them,
05:44teaching them to trust in his provision.
05:46As they camped at the base of Mount Sinai,
05:49Moses ascended the mountain
05:51to speak with God.
05:53There,
05:54God gave him the Ten Commandments,
05:56laws to guide his people in righteousness.
06:00But while Moses was away,
06:01the people grew impatient.
06:04They crafted a golden calf,
06:06a false god,
06:07and worshipped it,
06:08forgetting the one who had freed them.
06:10When Moses saw their betrayal,
06:12he shattered the tablets in anger.
06:14But God,
06:16in his mercy,
06:17gave them another chance.
06:19Moses returned to the mountain
06:21and received the commandments once more,
06:24sealing a covenant between God and his people.
06:27Though they had stumbled,
06:28the Israelites would continue their journey,
06:31learning,
06:31growing,
06:32and preparing for the land promised to them.
06:35But the journey was not over.
06:37For forty years,
06:38they wandered the desert,
06:39learning to trust God.
06:41And in time,
06:41they would reach the land promised to them.
06:44Moses' story is one of courage,
06:46faith,
06:47and the power of believing
06:48in something greater than fear.
06:51His journey reminds us
