00:00now the qualification results were interesting we had some moments that
00:11maybe might lend slightly artificial feel to some of the qualification
00:17rankings maybe that we get a fair amount of movement position to position as we
00:26compare like for like from qualifying to the final
00:44warm-ups in progress and we still have to come the men's still rings final it's
00:50always that lovely moment of juxtaposition isn't it
00:54gymnastically in artistic gymnastics is there any greater a contrast of events
01:03than to have the women's uneven bars and the men's still rings so running one after
01:07the other just shows the great range in the sport and how much there is that
01:12comprises artistic gymnastics let alone before we get into the other forms of
01:17gymnastics I'm sure that a lot of you know that there are World Cup events just as
01:27there are Continental and World Championship events and indeed Olympic events in
01:33rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics there's a televised World Cup series as
01:42well for those particular disciplines of the sport and we also have the non
01:48Olympic disciplines of gymnastics as well acrobatic gymnastics and aerobic
01:55gymnastics making up a full complement of indoor forms of the sport and then the
02:01the newest member of the gymnastics family parkour many of those featuring at the
02:10World Games the World Games which will be happening in the People's Republic of China in Chengdu later this year
02:20so just a little reminder of what else is out there really in the diversity of the
02:32sport how much there is to watch how much there is to enjoy but for now let's focus on
02:38enjoying this women's uneven bars final which is to begin shortly we've got one last
02:43warm-up to happen the split warm-up system the split warm-ups were introduced a few
02:58seasons ago for the apparatus finals in FIG competition and a good thing too
03:08because it gives the athletes time to prepare properly to have this little
03:13period of contact with the apparatus it is after all quite a long time after
03:19that general warm-up so important they get this opportunity and it actually has
03:26been a very fine thing for television because it gives us just a moment to
03:31look at who's in the field to reflect upon the sorts of dynamics we might see
03:37changes from qualification to the finals it's worked very well and it's been an
03:45important change athlete safety is at the heart of it of course
04:07we are poised to begin
04:11Kate MacDonald from Australia fourth best in qualification with a score of 13.4 she is
04:24a two-time medallist at the Commonwealth Games including the beam champion in
04:29Birmingham and she has been the Oceania champion on the uneven bars
04:38the 24 year old is from East Melbourne in Victoria and she is an Olympian from Paris great way to start a very experienced and proven performer
04:51starts with the Maloney that's a little bend in the handstand position but controls it
04:59well into the catcher and in the pack salto
05:03and she gets the job done very nicely Kate MacDonald tidy performance on the uneven bars
05:18student of the Bachelor of Environment course in the environmental management and sustainability at
05:33Deakin University she's spoken of the fact that she was actually aiming at the
05:40Commonwealth Games for the uneven bars title didn't expect at all to be the
05:46beam champion funny isn't it how sometimes athletes go in with one clear aim and
05:55then on the crest of a wave they roar their way to a totally different accomplishment
06:00this mounts well
06:14the
06:21the
06:31tattoo of the Olympic rings to immortalize what is already immortalized in the record books
06:39she has done that which almost nobody will ever do competed at the very greatest stage in all of sport
06:5013.4 that's exactly the same total score as qualifying but there is a bit of a difference in how she's acquired it the execution's down a tenth the difficulties up a tenth
07:0313.4, that's exactly the same total score as qualifying, but there is a bit of a difference
07:14in how she's acquired it, the execution's down a tenth, the difficulty's up a tenth.
07:20We go to Sanna Fierman of the Netherlands, third best in qualifying, 13.466.
07:33She won a bronze medal last year at the Baku World Cup, the year before a silver in Cottbus.
07:41Another Olympian, part of the Dutch team that nearly made the final in Paris.
07:48She starts with the Straddlejaeger somersault.
07:55Good pike position there, was well performed, good amplitude.
08:00Maloney, and then up a hard wash.
08:08Van Leeuwen, lots of interesting gymnastics going on here.
08:18And rotates nicely around a couple of times in the top position to conclude.
08:23Sanna Fierman of the Netherlands.
08:25Pipe Kachev was very well established, she hit the pike position nicely.
08:53Good acute body position, really bending at the midsection.
09:06Here's the Pak Salter and then later on put in the twist of the body,
09:12innovated by Mahini Baharwaj.
09:14And then the double tuck to conclude.
09:36Put in the twinkled foot.
09:55Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
09:59Oh.
09:59she was a finalist at the world championships on the uneven bars in 2022
10:0913.233 puts sana fearman in second place
10:19higher difficulty score for mcdonald she had some
10:27well-combined skills the australian
10:29from the people's republic of china yang fanyue
10:50second best in qualification the
10:56innovator of the yang skill performed at the antaglia world cup
11:02don't believe that she performed it in the warm-up
11:06well
11:11this is a good performance
11:20oh oh unfortunate right at the end
11:34gosh that was exciting
11:38so she did perform it there
11:45i'm not entirely sure that she performed in the warm-up
11:54didn't do it i think in the final in antaglia either
11:58so let's have a look back at this performance from the asian champion
12:07and she is the 2024 asian and chinese champion
12:11well how exciting to see one of a few new skills performed this season on the uneven bars
12:25well how exciting to see one of a few new skills performed this season on the uneven bars
12:39then right at the end she just stumbles out of the dismount having performed that
12:58remarkable full twisting layout jäger
13:05i did wonder if we were going to see her brand new skill the 20 year old from yunan
13:12i did wonder if we were going to see her brand new skill the 20 year old from yunan
13:40mcdonald's leader
14:1013.766 she is into the lead with a 6.4 degree of difficulty so the execution
14:23score is the lowest that we've seen so far but the complexity of that routine
14:28easily carrying her to first place now this is where it gets really interesting
14:37because Jayla Hang scored 13.766 in qualifying and that's exactly what we've
14:43just seen produced by Yang Fanyei and it's not as though Hang's routine is
14:50lacking in complexity itself we've got a 5.9 in qualifying
14:57that was an awkward moment
15:02just not fully establishing those positions
15:10handstand issues
15:12but there are great moments of gymnastics in this routine it just isn't fully hanging
15:26together today but that's again okay this is a 17 year old athlete
15:30and you have to give athletes time to establish themselves as seniors
15:39you have to give them time to develop their consistency
15:43she's been wonderful to watch in 2024 and so far this year
15:55oh that's a great conclusion
16:00no denying the immense capacity of Jayla Hang
16:09no denying it
16:15and it's all part of learning what this sort of competition is like
16:25it's all part of being out there on the world cup circuit that's why the
16:29american team have sent her out to these international assignments to
16:34develop experience
16:42she's got some very impressive release and regrasp work
16:56it's the same sort of thing that i was saying in the men's pommel horse final that
17:04you can't define young athletes by single
17:07you can't define anyone by single routines
17:11and certainly not at the early stages of a career
17:16it's just simply
17:18the wrong thing to do
17:20a vulgar way to treat an athlete whose
17:24career is based on so much that goes on in training on
17:28so many things that we don't see on international television and on so many
17:32years of experience
17:35we have to always paint a broad picture of an athlete's career
17:41rather than being too microscopic on detail
17:44she won a medal on bars at the pacific rim
17:57championships last year where she so brilliantly won the all-around title as
18:00well
18:04and we hope she'll be back with us
18:06for some
18:07tournaments in the future as well

24:18Lila Mokoi
24:20on the occasion of her 19th birthday
24:22Lila Mokoi
24:24on the occasion of her 19th birthday
24:26Lila Mokoi
24:28on the occasion of her 19th birthday
24:30she won the uneven bars title at the
24:32Hungarian apparatus championships
24:34in September of last year
24:36she also won medals at the masters championships and the national championships
24:40on this apparatus so she very much is somebody who's performing
24:44with great ambition on the bars
24:46she's
24:48dramatically upgraded
24:50her work over the last couple of years it's been exciting to watch
24:54that
24:56sadly
24:58just a little off
25:00position
25:02causes her to lose the
25:04swingfulness
25:06her
25:24lovely to see the grip variation in the first age of her of this final
25:28Use of the Maloney and Van Leeuwen skills.
25:43And a smooth-looking double tuck to conclude.
25:46She gave herself time in the air.
25:49A lot that was very successful about that,
25:51and no wonder she has a somewhat wistful reaction
25:54as she steps away from the apparatus
25:57because it very nearly went absolutely according to plan.
26:02It certainly did once she got back on.
26:06She was fourth on the uneven bars
26:10at the Ossiek World Challenge Cup last year.
26:27It's a wonderful angle to appreciate how little space there actually is
26:46between the two bars and how little time the gymnast has to complete the edge of a skill.
26:50A little space they've got, more than time perhaps.
27:06Maybe the tuck position lacking a bit of tightness,
27:09but it certainly was controlled.
27:12There's definitely an opportunity for one of these remaining two competitors
27:35to get onto the podium.
27:36We wait for the results in a few seconds.
27:45And then we carry on with the population.
27:50Southing is all out of the score.
27:53Konač i je zuta.
27:55Stiže za koi trenutak.
27:56Stiže za koi trenutak.
28:04with regret it's 11.766 for Lilla Mokai
28:11execution is down by about a mark and a half from qualifying
28:16here's a gymnast who has got the difficulty to really make a case for
28:22herself
28:23Maesa Kusiko 13.266 in qualification
28:29if she gets that here
28:31then she's onto the podium with one to go
28:34can she push the execution up a little higher
28:39turns 20 in a couple of months
28:47very well established on this apparatus
28:54using the original Shapochnikova
28:57Kachev to a packed solto combined
29:00Maloney
29:04yes
29:08now this is interesting
29:11just keeps the swing going
29:22oh that's an authoritative double layout to conclude
29:30Maesa Kusiko from Tampere in Finland
29:34fine performance there from an experienced gymnast
29:42and somebody who really has focused on the uneven bars
29:50since some knee issues
29:52she has three world cup medals has she just added to her collection
30:00it's amazing that she's only 19 because we've been talking about her for so many years
30:18since she won the bronze medal at the junior all-around national championships two weeks before her 13th birthday
30:28she's one of those athletes that you keep double checking the age of because you're sure she must be into her 20s by now
30:39she nearly is super double layout to conclude
30:45super double layout to conclude
30:49the wonderful city of Tampere which is such a lovely space in winter but also in the winter
31:03the wonderful city of Tampere which is such a lovely space in winter but also in the winter
31:07it's a very artistic city it has lots of music festivals so highly reputed fine dining city in Finland as well
31:28I do recommend it it's very nice
31:32that's a very nice score
31:35Maesa Kusiko goes into the silver medal position
31:38she's on the podium guaranteed
31:4013.566
31:43her execution up three tenths from qualifying
31:49that's what she needed to push herself into medal contention
31:52now needing an improvement of just over two tenths from qualifying is Sara Shulikic
32:01she won the silver medal in this event in this place last year this is her favorite competition
32:06she won the silver medal in this event in this place last year this is her favorite competition
32:18oh she's really going for difficulty
32:31how she has worked
32:35how she has improved
32:38she's almost there
32:51and she keeps it simple at the conclusion
32:56Sara Shulikic of Croatia
32:58she produced her biggest international scores so far last year
33:08and she really is so focused on the Los Angeles Olympics
33:13she's playing the long game here
33:15Sara Shulikic
33:16the 19 year old from Zagreb which is
33:19going to be hosting the European Championships
33:23next year
33:25she'll be excited about that certainly
33:30good tight pike position to start her release and regrasp work
33:35and then Kachev going into the edge of her
33:38the form does deteriorate but she keeps the swingfulness going
33:41with admirable tenacity
33:43I just think her development has been
34:03quite fantastic to witness
34:05slight wildness to the leg position
34:14but she minimizes it as best she can
34:19mostly demonstrates
34:23quite estimable toe point
34:25the dismount is a simple one
34:35just a single layout
34:41it means so much to her this competition
34:57Mcdonald 13.4
35:04Kusiko 13.566
35:06Yang 13.766
35:083, 2 and 1 respectively
35:11this is the last score to come in
35:14and it means so much to her
35:19and it means so much to her
35:21anyway
35:23it means so much to her
35:2413.566
35:2813.1 for Sara Shulikic
35:29she is in fifth position
35:31three tenths away from the podium though
35:33very good effort
35:34there is your champion
35:44so much difficulty
35:49even though she had that little issue on the landing
35:52didn't matter
35:53and well done to Maisa Gusiko as well
36:04another title for Yang Fanyue who's proving herself to be a gymnast of very fine difficulty
36:20on the uneven bars
36:22ladies we await your medal ceremony so stay with us
36:26relax take your time
36:28what a combination
36:30we'll have a look back at how the gold medal was decided
37:00classified results in the women's uneven bars competition
37:13bronze to Australia's Kate McDonald's silver won by Maisa Gusiko of Finland
37:19and the gold medal to Yang Fanyue and the People's Republic of China
