Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) held a press briefing on Wednesday, where he was asked if he lost any personal items in the fire at the Governor's Mansion.
Transcript
00:00Family possessions in this fire, by the way?
00:04I don't know. We had several...
00:09That's a good question, Mark.
00:13We did have several religious items that we were using for our Seder that were from our personal collection.
00:21I know a lot was damaged there. I don't know specifically what.
00:25And I don't know if our Seder plates or any of our other materials were damaged, melted, destroyed in the fire.
00:33I can let you know that.
00:34They were in that room?
00:36They were. We were using them during our Seder.
00:39So we brought Seder plates and other ritual items from our home, from our personal home there,
00:47to celebrate with family and the community that we had invited to the Seder there that evening.
00:52Governor should hear...
00:53I think Ford had a question.
00:55It's similar to what Mark was asking.
00:57First of all, we're glad you're here and having the press conference.
01:00We appreciate the one right after the incident.
01:02The room where the fires occurred, there's heavy damage inside.
01:06I've been told there were some valuable artifacts from elsewhere in the state, artwork, what have you.
01:12Was there a fire suppression system in any part of the mansion?
01:16And what things were lost in that room that you know about?
01:20Yeah. I think, you know, I'm trying to very forthrightly answer all of your questions.
01:24I don't have an inventory of specifically what was lost.
01:28That's why I struggled to answer Mark's question.
01:31We are happy to provide that to you in the state dining room and the state dining room reception room and the state dining room welcome area.
01:42There were many artifacts, many pieces that were on loan from the state museum.
01:49I don't know what's been destroyed.
01:52That next morning, Secretary McNeil arranged to have the head of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission to the residents to do that assessment and to make sure that any items that could be salvaged would be.
02:07And we're happy to give you a full accounting of that for it.
02:10Governor Harrisburg, by the way.
