Dans un bar de Manhattan, elle fait la connaissance de Steven, un compositeur d'opéra en panne d'inspiration. Celui-ci est malheureux dans le couple qu'il forme avec Patricia, une psychothérapeute souffrant de nombreux TOC. Bien qu'attirés l'un par l'autre, Katrina et Steven n'arrivent pas à se faire confiance. De son côté, Julian, le fils adolescent que Patricia a eu d'une première union tombe amoureux de la fille de Magdalena, la femme de ménage que sa mère vient d'embaucher.
