Transcript
00:00It's a bit windy, it's a bit cold, but you're hardcore, you're here.
00:06And this is a model of a pump track, basically, isn't it?
00:09It is, yeah.
00:10So this is what you'd like to have built, what, here at Chase Water?
00:14Yes, because there's £7 million being invested in Chase Water.
00:18So we've been told to push the opportunity and try and get it here.
00:22Obviously, it's very spacious.
00:23Yeah, yeah.
00:24And it's something for everyone, and it's inclusive to all.
00:26Well, that's it, people travel from quite far, don't need to come to Chase Water.
00:31So it would be used by quite a diverse range of people, big range.
00:36So what's going on today, then?
00:38Other than raising awareness for that campaign, you're doing bike checks, is that right?
00:42Doing bike checks, yeah.
00:44We've got Phil Kelly over there.
00:45Yeah.
00:46He needs a cycle coach.
00:48He's doing three bike checks for us.
00:50And then we've got Chelsea here, and we've got the ladies behind us.
00:54Cool.
00:54Doing bike registering as well.
00:56Ah, so is that the safety checks for if it gets stolen and stuff, yeah?
01:00That's correct, yeah.
01:01Is that where you come into, that side of things?
01:03So basically, the bikes will then be put on a bike register.
01:06Yeah.
01:06For any reason, the fortunate event is that the bikes are safe, and it'll be registered on
01:11a bike register.
01:13Wow.
01:13We'll be able to find it, give it back to the owner.
01:17So it's just that extra precaution, really.
01:19Great.
01:20And also a deterrent as well, and hopefully, less bikes can be stolen.
01:24Yeah.
01:24Well, great stuff.
01:26Yeah, because some of these bikes are worth a few quid now, aren't they?
01:29Yeah, they are.
01:29Yeah.
01:29Yeah, but they do sometimes pop up down the line, don't they?
01:33I know we did something at Blockswitch Police Station, and they had a load of push bikes
01:38there.
01:38So like you say, if you can reunite that with its own, they're all the better.
01:42Absolutely.
01:43Well, good luck with your campaign, guys, and well done for all you're doing here today.
01:46I'm braving the wind.
01:47What's your name, man?
01:49Jamie.
01:50Jamie.
01:50Hello, Jamie.
01:51And this is your bike, isn't it?
01:54Yeah.
01:54So you're just having a checkover on it?
01:56Yeah.
01:56So what is it you enjoy about cycling and biking?
02:03Is it the outdoors?
02:05Yeah.
02:05And you're an off-roader?
02:07Yeah?
02:08You like your bumps?
02:08Yeah.
02:09Your bumps and stuff, yeah?
02:10How long have you been into biking, then?
02:12Um, I think I'm okay.
02:16You said you were too?
02:17Cool.
02:17And this bike's very smart, mate.
02:19Now, the guys here are trying to fundraise to get a pump track in Birdwood.
02:23You know what a pump track is, don't you?
02:25Would you like a pump track?
02:27Yeah.
02:28How cool would it be?
02:30Good.
02:30Yeah, you'd really like it, yeah?
02:32Cool.
02:32Well, let's go and see what our man's doing around here.
02:35Hello, sir.
02:36Introduce yourself.
02:37Hi, it's Phil.
02:38Hello, Phil.
02:385212.
02:40Where are you from, Phil?
02:415212 Cycles.
02:42Oh, where's that then?
02:43Mobile bicycle repairs.
02:44Okay, so what base?
02:46In Birdwood.
02:47Birdwood, yeah.
02:48And how far do you travel in doing that then?
02:50As far as Solihull.
02:52Wow.
02:52And in about a week's time, Mallorca.
02:55Yeah?
02:56Oh, fair do's, mate.
02:57So I work at various events.
02:59Yeah.
02:59Ironmans, all that sort of stuff.
03:01Oh, great stuff, mate.
03:02Yeah, just checking over the bike here for the young fella.
03:04So you're helping out today.
03:05It's important, isn't it?
03:06Yeah.
03:06Because it's a big thing now, cycling.
03:08But, you know, I do see kids riding around and I do think, I don't think that bike's even
03:13got a brake.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And it's very important in a roadworthy.
03:16You do see some things that are a bit worrying, to be honest.
03:20So usually brakes is one of the things.
03:21But then cables.
03:23Yeah.
03:23And then the chains are in usually not great condition.
03:26Yeah.
03:27So I've been able to give those a check over, make sure it's safe.
03:30How's Jamie's bike looking?
03:31Not too bad.
03:32Yeah?
03:32Could be able to do with a new gear cable, though.
03:34Maybe get a new cable, Jamie.
03:36Yeah.
03:36But other than that, not too bad.
03:38The brakes are good, actually.
03:39So it's all right.
03:40Well done, Jamie.
03:41I'd personally clean the chain a little bit, though.
03:44I've cleaned it.
03:45Did you?
03:46When did you ask me, innit?
03:47Did you?
03:49Did he?
03:50Well, what have you got to say about that, sir?
03:52Well, I'll show you how to do it.
03:53So ladies, there is a petition, isn't there, for this pump track?
03:58There is, yes.
03:58It's online.
03:59And you can see here we've got a paper version.
04:03There are lots of paper versions around Burntwood in lots of different places.
04:08Please give me a signature.
04:09So if people want to find it online, what does Google build on the pump track?
04:14There is a link on the Facebook page that's the pump track built on Burntwood.
04:19And it's also part on the Staffordshire County Council website.
04:24Please go on.
04:25You have to register up, but it only takes two minutes to do so.
04:28Great stuff.
04:28Good luck, ladies.
