She now lives with a mechanical valve and ongoing health issues. Her story comes as Surfers Against Sewage report a 30% rise in water pollution incidents over five years. 00:00I used to feel really alive and energised from going in the sea and then last December 23 I got
00:08really poorly and we can only really put it down to the sewage and pollution in the sea so it's
00:16changed my life completely really now. So I was really unwell, I literally couldn't walk my kids
00:23to school, it was really poorly and it turns out I was in hospital for over a month and I had a
00:31blood infection and I ended up having endocarditis which resulted in open heart surgery and I needed
00:38to have a mechanical valve so I now have a mechanical valve and it's been a year now
00:43recovery and I'm still rebuilding my life really, adjusting to things, I have ongoing health issues
00:53because I now need to take warfarin for the rest of my life so yeah it's been pretty bad. It's
00:59disgraceful really, like I'm literally heartbroken from it and that there's no, nobody's made
01:05accountable for that and that it seems that it's okay that we have to adjust our lifestyle to
01:11accommodate sewage bin and pollution in the sea. It's disgusting really and I'm really angry that
01:18it's, there's not more accountability or things being done to stop that.
