A 25-year-old workshop employee pleaded not guilty at the Johor Baru Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (April 16) to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the death of a good Samaritan who was helping a motorcyclist involved in an earlier accident at KM16 of Jalan Johor Bahru–Kota Tinggi on April 13.

00:45The charge under Section 44, Subsection 1, Subsection B of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a prison
00:52term of 10 to 15 years and a fine between 50,000 ringgit and 100,000 ringgit upon conviction.
01:00Kok also faces disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving license for at least
01:0510 years and any probationary license may be revoked.
01:09He also faces a separate charge under Section 108, Subsection 3, Subsection F of the same
01:16act for displaying a false number plate allegedly committed at 4.30 a.m. the same day at the
01:22traffic police station of the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters, Maasai.
01:27If convicted, the offence carries a fine of 5,000 to 20,000 ringgit, imprisonment of one
01:33to five years or both.
01:35The court granted bail of 6,000 ringgit and 2,000 ringgit for the respective charges and ordered
01:41Kok to surrender his passport, report to the police monthly and suspend his driving license
01:47pending the trial.
01:49The case is scheduled for mention on May 19.
01:52Mohamed Taufik was attempting to assist a motorcyclist involved in an earlier accident
01:57when he was struck by the car driven by Kok.
02:00The initial incident involved a motorcycle ridden by a man believed to be a Myanmar national
02:05in his 30s, who is thought to have lost control of the bike before skidding and falling
02:11onto the road.
02:12He sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
