00:04which is dedicated to the Sea Goddess Maju,
00:07located near Sam Yan area on the land owned by Juala Long Con University.
00:11This shrine has become the symbol of resistance against gentrification in Bangkok.
00:18And the shrine is now facing the relocation plant by the university.
00:22Also known as Amma Shrine, it's over 150 years old, predating the university.
00:27It has long been a spiritual hub for the locals and even served as a shelter during World War II.
00:33Maju is believed to bring safety, harmony, and prosperity to her followers.
00:39The university plans to relocate the shrine near its centenary park,
00:43but the shrine's caretaker and local activists strongly oppose the move,
00:47arguing the new location is unsuitable.
00:50The fight to preserve the shrine is featured in the 2023 Thai film The Last Breath of Sam Yan.
