U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to China, stating that the "ball is in China's court" amidst rising tensions and escalating tariffs. America's tariffs on Chinese goods have reached 145%, while China retaliates with 125% tariffs on U.S. imports. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that while the U.S. is open to negotiations, China must take the first step. This conflict, sparked by trade practices and the fentanyl issue, has deepened since Trump’s administration took office, with both countries facing significant economic consequences.

00:00China needs to make a deal with us.
00:02We don't have to make a deal with them.
00:04Fair trade deals that he is pursuing with many countries around the world is to put
00:08the American worker first.
00:10Although I do have an additional statement that he just shared with me in the Oval Office.
00:15The ball is in China's court.
00:17China needs to make a deal with us.
00:19We don't have to make a deal with them.
00:21There's no difference between China and any other country except they are much larger.
00:26And China wants what we have, what every country wants, what we have, the American consumer.
00:33Or to put it another way, they need our money.
00:36So the President, again, has made it quite clear that he's open to a deal with China, but China
00:40needs to make a deal with the United States of America.
00:42The United States has been subsidizing Canada's national defense, and he believes that Canadians
00:48would benefit greatly from becoming the 51st state of the United States of America.
00:52As for autos and auto parts, I don't have anything to read out for you there.
00:55But I think the point the President was making is flexibility, and he has flexibility when
01:00it comes to negotiations and talks.
01:02But ultimately, his goal in his fair trade deals that he is pursuing with many countries
01:08around the world is to put the American worker first.
01:11And we had automakers and autoworkers here at the White House on Liberation Day who believe
01:19in this President and his negotiating ability to put them first and to bring those jobs back
01:24to the United States of America.
01:25And the President has been very clear about that in his conversations with the automakers
01:28as well.
01:29Go ahead.
01:30MS.
01:31Deanna.
01:32Deanna, go ahead.
01:33Thanks, Caroline.
01:34One on Ukraine, one on China.
01:35On Ukraine, this past weekend Zelenskyy offered an invitation to President Trump extending an
01:40offer for him to visit Ukraine.
01:42Just wondering if there's any update on that.
01:44Has Trump seen that offer and what he's thinking about?
01:46MS.
01:47I don't know.
01:48Actually, I haven't talked to the President about that or if he saw Zelenskyy's offer.
01:52I'm sure he did.
01:53I haven't spoken to him about it.
01:54I can ask him what he thinks.
01:56I certainly don't have any plans to share on a potential trip to Ukraine, though.
01:59And then on China, this last week, Chinese officials were posting videos on social media
02:06sites depicting Trump, J.D. Vance, Elon Musk in AI-generated videos working in factories,
02:14putting together Nike shoes and iPhones and products like that.
02:19Does the White House, have they seen these videos?
02:21Do you guys have a response to that?
02:22MS.
02:23I have seen the videos.
02:24I'm not sure who made the videos or if we can verify the authenticity.
02:28But whoever made it clearly does not see the potential of the American worker, the American
02:33workforce.
02:34The President believes in the American people, and he knows that we have the best not only
02:39consumer base in the world, but also the best workforce in the world.
02:42And that's why he's so focused on bringing investments home and shoring up our critical
02:46supply chains and bolstering our manufacturing here as well.
02:54This is an update.
02:58.
02:59.
