00:00I would bring back Beyonce.
00:02Okay!
00:03Definitely.
00:04Another homecoming would be absolutely amazing.
00:05I mean, a little Cowboy Carter version, too?
00:07Right!
00:08Come on!
00:09Bringing the cello vibes with my girl, Uncle Waffles.
00:11What's going on, boo?
00:12Hey!
00:14We're happy to have you here, but you've got to start by saying,
00:16you know, for the people out there that don't know you,
00:18how did you come up with the name?
00:20How did we get there?
00:21Um, so I'm Uncle Waffles.
00:23There isn't really a cool backstory.
00:25My friends came up with it in high school,
00:27and it just kind of carried on.
00:29So, where I am currently, it was never meant to be Uncle Waffles.
00:32Oh!
00:33It was just meant to be Waffles.
00:34But my manager decided that Uncle Waffles made me more unique,
00:36so here we are.
00:38Listen, my name is Tetris Girl, so I understand.
00:40It also was a high school nickname.
00:42Really?
00:43So, it just happens, and then here we are.
00:44Then here you are, 25, and you're like, yeah.
00:47I love it.
00:48Well, you're playing one of the hottest parties at Coachella.
00:51I've got to say, I've been having myself a good time at Revolve,
00:53so how do you feel to be heading out there?
00:54I am so excited.
00:56I'm so excited to be bringing the sound to the world, you know?
00:59I know a lot of people there probably won't know what Amapiano is,
01:02but I'm excited to be their first experience of it.
01:04I hope everyone loves it after they get to see me, you know?
01:07I mean, like, what can people expect from your set?
01:09Authentic Amapiano, but also dance.
01:11I think people haven't seen the dance element of piano on big stages,
01:15so hopefully now they get to experience it more through me, you know?
01:19Yeah, I love that.
01:20I mean, you'll be being one of the first Amapiano artists ever to hit the Coachella stage.
01:24Like, how do you feel about Tyler, even, and, like, how the sound has, like, really blown up?
01:29It's unreal.
01:30It's so amazing to know that from just a small video,
01:34people wanted to get to experience me, you know, holistically,
01:37to get to see me do big stages, it's been amazing.
01:40Seeing Tyler do Coachella now, also getting to curate a better experience, I'm so excited.
01:45I feel like it just continues to open more doors for more people,
01:48because I feel like, you know, we are the dance capital of the world, so...
01:51Hello!
01:52I think people need to get to experience it.
01:56Well, of course, people are out at Coachella vibing with the music, but also the fashion.
02:00I mean, you're looking good today.
02:01So what can I expect from you to bring to the desert, style-wise?
02:05So I'm luckily going to get styled by revolving forward.
02:08So I'm going to be putting on some, you know, some revolve, some forward, you know?
02:12I'm getting to get styled, so I'm so excited about that.
02:15But then, you know, then I'm going to come with my little...
02:18You'll see, you'll see.
02:19Just a little something?
02:20Just a little something.
02:21Okay, can't wait.
02:22And I mean, you've been even slaying stages in like the UK,
02:25so how is the difference in audiences when you're traveling from a country like there
02:28to being out in Palm Springs?
02:29Okay, so the UK is way more familiar with Amapiano,
02:33so the audience definitely understands the music better, they know what to do better.
02:36Interesting.
02:37Yes, you know, it's been really relevant there since 2020, since lockdown.
02:42Wow.
02:43They really absorbed the culture.
02:44In the U.S., we're still breaking in,
02:46so a lot of people are still trying to get accustomed to this BPM.
02:49Is it fast? Is it slow? How do I move to it, you know?
02:52Everyone moves at a certain beat, and not everyone can catch that beat.
02:55You do got to find the beat. You got to catch it.
02:58Yes, so definitely there's a huge consumption issue, but otherwise,
03:03I feel like you guys are willing to learn.
03:05Like, every time I come here, people will not know who I am,
03:08but everyone's going to be like, okay, okay.
03:10You know, you're breaking the boundaries.
03:11Yeah.
03:12That's what you're doing.
03:13The first time I did Doolab, nobody knew who I was,
03:17but everyone was dancing, and I think that's the one thing that I really appreciated about that,
03:21is that everyone still wants to hear, you know?
03:23Yeah.
03:24Everyone's still like...
03:25And Doolab is such a vibe, too.
03:26Yeah.
03:27You catch all the Coachella vibes.
03:28Let's say you are pro.
03:30And you're a Coachella pro girl, but you've also been breaking boundaries in other ways.
03:34Brooklyn Mirage, you were the first black artist to headline,
03:37so how does it feel like to break through that wall?
03:39Okay, a lot happened that day.
03:40I was very scared to take on such a number of people, especially in America,
03:43because we are still emerging, so the sound still just has its small communities.
03:47I was very scared to take on such a big venue and an iconic venue for DJs.
03:50You know, some things are things that define your DJ career, and that was one of the things.
03:55If you do well at the Mirage.
03:57You were like, okay.
03:58So I was so, so scared.
04:00That that day, the whole day, it said it was going to rain.
04:04There was going to be a whole storm.
04:05Oh no.
04:06I prayed we were going to cancel the show.
04:09Oh God.
04:10Yes, we were canceling the show.
04:11It was raining, but people came out and I filled it up.
04:14And to do that as a young black woman, also the first one in the genre, was so amazing.
04:19I know that now, next time I go, I can do even better.
04:22Hey, you're like, listen, book me again.
04:25Yeah, yeah.
04:26Now before I get you out of here, you want to play a couple Coachella games with me?
04:29Okay, sure.
04:30All right, the first one is real simple.
04:31Okay.
04:32It's name your Coachella headliner.
04:33So if you were playing Coachella, who's Friday night, who's Saturday night, and who's on Sunday?
04:37Okay.
04:38Friday, judging from last time, Friday was very busy.
04:41So you need people who are going to be super hyped and super good.
04:45I would bring back Beyonce.
04:47Okay.
04:48Definitely.
04:49Another homecoming would be absolutely amazing.
04:50I mean, a little Cowboy Carter version too?
04:52All right.
04:53Come on.
04:54All right, I see you there.
04:55Beyonce.
04:56I do.
04:57Honestly, I would do Usher as well.
04:58Ooh.
04:59Yes.
05:00Yes.
05:01I do Usher.
05:02Yeah, because he's never done Coachella, I don't think.
05:03So that would be real.
05:04Okay.
05:05The theatrics.
05:06I need how many?
05:08I need three.
05:09Yeah.
05:10Sunday night.
05:11Now, you've had a big weekend so far.
05:12Beyonce, Usher, who's going to bring the closing night?
05:15Wow.
05:16Me.
05:17Yes.
05:18Uncle Waffles.
05:19Main stage.
05:20Yes.
05:21Yes.
05:22Give me a chance.
05:23I have ideas.
05:24Yes.
05:25Goals.
05:2625.
05:27Yes.
05:28Let's do it.
05:29Let's do it.
05:30One thing you know, since you're a Coachella pro, is that one of the worst things Coachella
05:31does to us is book our favorite artists at the same time.
05:33Yes.
05:34And you're trying to figure out whose stage you're going to be at, who you're going to
05:36run and see.
05:37Yes.
05:38So let's see if you had to pick out of these two artists, who you're going to run to.
05:40Yeah.
05:41Bad Bunny or Carol G?
05:42Oh, that's a tough one.
05:45Okay.
05:46Carol G.
05:47I'm a girl's girl.
05:48And she's amazing.
05:49She is.
05:50She's absolutely amazing.
05:51Yes.
05:52Kendrick Lamar or Tyler the Creator?
05:53Kendrick.
05:54I would love to see Kendrick.
05:56I love Tyler's whole thing right now, but I'd still love to see Kendrick.
06:00Okay.
06:01And lastly, we're going to go way back to some legends.
06:03Prince or MJ?
06:05Girl.
06:06I would have to go home.
06:07Again, you're like, you're calling the Uber.
06:08You have the Uber stand.
06:09Yeah.
06:10Or maybe, you know, I have to just run.
06:11Back and forth.
06:12Yes.
06:13That's what I'm saying.
06:14Sometimes that's what you have to do.
06:15Yes.
06:16Hit a couple songs.
06:17Okay.
06:18Yes.
06:19Do a little dodge.
06:20Yes.
06:21Well, I can't wait to see you out of Revolve.
06:24Have so much fun at the festival.
06:26All right.
06:27Let's get started.
06:29We'll see you next time.
06:31Bye.
06:32Good.
06:33Bye.
06:34Bye.
06:35Bye.
06:36Bye.
06:37Bye.
06:38Bye.
06:39Bye.
06:40Bye.
06:41Bye.
06:42Bye.
06:43Bye.
06:44Bye.
06:45Bye.
06:46Bye.
06:47Bye.
06:48Bye.
06:49Bye.
06:50Bye.
