06:58as if they were frozen by the effect of Leo Messi.
07:01Leo Messi causes that effect,
07:03and it causes it especially to the players of Madrid.
07:17I really don't think about the game when I'm in the field.
07:23It's going to play, and it's going to play like this.
07:28It's going to open the space,
07:30and it's going to find the way to continue,
07:32and it's going to end with the goal that it ended up being.
07:35But just to get the ball, I can't imagine anything.
07:39What I always remember is that a game on my training,
07:41the boys from Barça B,
07:44we always mix the team together.
07:46I was with a game on Barça B,
07:48and Messi encarou it,
07:50and I was behind, against the goal.
07:52I was like,
07:53I don't get in,
07:54I don't get in.
07:55And then the guy went back,
07:56and I said,
07:57stop, stop.
07:58And when he was shooting,
07:59we just did it like this,
08:01and the two on the floor,
08:03and the two on the floor.
08:04So if you enter,
08:06he will drive you.
08:07If you hold it,
08:08he will drive you too.
08:09So it's almost impossible to mark it.
08:11Messi has been fighting since the base category.
08:16When Messi came to football in 2005,
08:19the World Cup in the Netherlands,
08:20we did a semi-final,
08:21Brazil and Argentina,
08:22and he was the best player in the game.
08:25He was the best player in the competition.
08:27Everyone saw that there was a phenomenon.
08:31Everyone was firm on him,
08:32and he didn't respond to anything.
08:35He didn't complain.
08:36I've never seen him complaining
08:37of a stronger point.
08:39This is the difference.
08:40Everyone knows that
08:41the more you beat,
08:42he will come up.
08:43So it's cool.
08:44I admire him.
08:45He's playing in the world
08:47both sides of the world.
08:48I was lucky to see him.
08:50He did all the things
08:52to play around the world.
08:53I would like to see him in the world
08:55and to be able to play around the world.
08:56He's the best player.
08:57You made him a thing.
08:58How can you play?
08:59All the time is the jump.
09:00The Olympics were one of the most specials in my career, one of the most remembered and
09:08the most beautiful for the Olympic Games, not only for being a champion, we had the
09:15chance to get it, but also for the life that I had to live in the little time we were
09:21in the Olympics.
09:22I have a very beautiful memory of that championship.
09:27The Olympics were an outstanding day, we tried many times, we lost finals and it was special.
09:35Bielsa convinced everybody that it was worth it.
09:39Leo, I think he had these issues with Barcelona about being released.
09:44He managed to get there, it was very important, it was an outstanding day.
09:49We won World Cups, but the Olympic Games is something that we really, really wanted.
09:53In fact, our neighbors, the Brazilians, they had to wait a bit longer than us and they
09:57also waited for a long time.
09:59So the Olympic football, it's not a World Cup, but it's very, very important.
10:02It was something that Leo Messi was fundamental to achieve.
10:07But for anybody to doubt what he's been doing for Argentina, it's outrageous and I think
10:17they probably will realize when he's gone.
10:19In a way, Argentina is living a golden era because they've been in a World Cup final, they've
10:26been in two American Cup finals and when you win or lose it's just down to little details.
10:33It could have gone one way or the other.
10:35Some of them, of course, were goals in extra time or were wins at penalty shootouts.
10:43So to say that Leo Messi is not doing well with Argentina is basically not realizing that
10:48they are living a special moment.
10:50Why did you pass the game really?
10:56Well, it can happen, right?
10:59They're games, they're different ways.
11:01I also played Madrid for four games.
11:05They are tournaments which they decide on as a way or another.
11:12And, well, that time we played with us so well.
11:17It was special for everyone, for how it won in Bernabéu, because it had been a new position for me in that game,
11:27because we had invented something new with me, and we would probably be talking about all of that.
11:36Well, for sure it's not the easiest player to stop.
11:40You know, he has so many qualities, and he can do so many different things that it's difficult to find out how to stop him.
11:49I was in that match, I remember that when we ended the match, we came back together in the flight,
11:57and I said, have you seen the best match of Leo Messi?
12:02He said, no, the best match will be the next match.
12:05But that day, you saw the faces of the people in Bernabéu, and all of them said,
12:12oh my God, why Messi is the Barça?
12:15Yes, obviously, in that moment, I thought, I imagined that goal, and well, I entinted,
12:30and thanks to God, it came out, and it was a very important goal for me, in the individual, for the team,
12:40for how it was placed in the final, it was one of my goals most beautiful for me.
12:48The truth is, in that moment, it seemed difficult to win with Ferdinand in front, but well,
12:56it fell right where I was, where I didn't have a mark, and it was just the center for him to win.
13:04How did you play a game?
13:11We always tried to defend ourselves well.
13:14We had a good team, who defended us well.
13:17There was Ferdinand, there was Vida, there was Patrice, there were players that were experienced in football,
13:22and we knew that we would be playing with a great quality team.
13:25We, at the same time, had to defend ourselves, but we had players to attack,
13:29like Cristiano Ronaldo, like Tev, like Rune, like Disson Park, like Giggs.
13:33So, for us, we were at the same level of Barcelona this year,
13:36because we had already won the English Championship,
13:38and we were also disputing the second Champions League of our second Champions League.
13:42So, we were very confident.
13:44That was the moment of the game, where we were at the top of Barcelona,
13:54where Tevys had lost a ball, where he had crossed, he had shot, the goal had caught,
13:59and we were at the top of Barcelona.
14:01And at the moment, we didn't take care of him, he ended up making a goal.
14:04Daniel's crossing.
14:05Daniel.
14:06The 2009 Champions League final started, really, in the Clásico, previously.
14:12Because, just before the Clásico, Pep Guardiola asked, very late in the day,
14:20Leo Messi, to come to the training ground.
14:23Messi doesn't live far away from it.
14:25And showed him some clips, some videos, and said,
14:27you know that space here, in between the holding midfielders and the centre-backs,
14:31I want you to play there.
14:32That was the beginning of the false nine role that he played for Barcelona.
14:37Barcelona killed Real Madrid.
14:40But, of course, it seems to me that Manchester United had not stood that game properly,
14:44because what happened in the Champions League final,
14:47was that Messi started on the right-hand side,
14:50Eto'o was in the centre of the attack,
14:52and, after ten minutes, having Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance for Manchester United,
14:58that could have put them ahead,
15:00still nil-nil,
15:01and Pep Guardiola asked Eto'o and Messi to change places.
15:05So, Eto'o went onto the right-hand side,
15:07Messi came inside,
15:09and then he became not just a false nine,
15:11but linked as well with the midfield.
15:13They created superiority in the midfield.
15:15Manchester United did not know how to deal with that,
15:18and, basically, that was the beginning of the victory.
15:21of the victory of Barcelona.
15:23Eto'o,
15:25what is the best of the year of Barcelona?
15:27Is that something a nice thing to be able to be the goalkeeper
15:28of the Worlds?
15:29Is that something that is a beautiful goalkeeper
15:33of a league that has helped quite a lot of a lot of levels
15:36It's something really nice to be the goalkeeper in a great league, so important, with so many players
15:46of a lot of level level in this league, and being the best goalkeeper, it's a very good statistic.
15:57This is a player that my generation has not seen before. I don't think we've ever seen before, and it's down to the consistency of his efforts, his performances, in big games as well, the fact that he's carried a team like Barcelona
16:27to win everything, and Barcelona won with Pep Guardiola, with Tito Villanova, with Tata Martino, with Luis Enrique, and in the middle of all that, there was one thing coinciding, and that was Messi.
16:40So we're talking about the team that perhaps is one of the greatest in history, certainly one that has changed history, but again, it coincides that has Messi in it.
16:57It was a long day, because everything was done, being the goal 500, the 3-2 in the last minute, a game where we, if we didn't win, we almost left out of the league.
17:13It was a goal that gave us hope to continue to dream with the league, a game where we deserved to win, and, well, winning it in the last minute was very special for all the barcelonists.
17:29For me, because he is the best player in the world, it's, for me, he managed to stay for 10 years at the same level, and his level is different from the rest.
17:41So, to be able to do it for 10 years, it's something of very little, or almost nothing, and then he joins us with the quality that he has, and he's already transformed into the best in history.
17:56I think that the goal is not all in a game or in a player.
18:15I want to be a nice player and a great player.
18:24I want to be a surreal player, a player outside of the planet.
18:28One of the greatest in the last years, and he's so influential for Barcelona.
18:45The impossible is to do it simple. In training, he does things that no one does, but in a way that he almost didn't do it.
19:02So I think that's the difference.
19:05The most important thing to talk about him will be a lot, because he's a guy who doesn't have comments.
19:16What he does inside the field is inexplicable. He's a great player.
19:25Leo Messi is a source of happiness. Happiness is the highest level.
19:29Here they say that Leo Messi is better than to do love with your partner, because it's more prolonged than Leo Messi.
19:37And that's what people feel here in Barcelona.
19:45This question about Messi being the greatest player ever,
19:48it's one that perhaps in ten years' time will look back and say,
19:51why didn't we even ask?
