01:07work for something that interests you you know and then the money will follow you right it will come

01:17born into a construction family yes we would call you a nepo baby I mean just say I mean a talented
01:24one I mean surprisingly speaking not just like my father is civil engineer my mother is a civil
01:29engineer which is not common you don't usually have people coming from Egypt as a civil engineer
01:33my brother is a civil engineer my uncle is and you are I'm not I love it you're the people officer
01:42right the chief people officer what does a chief people officer do taking care of the people which
01:48is the most important thing of each and every company because what makes or breaks a company
01:53is its people and without people you cannot do anything so I take care actually quite some time
02:00ago about two years ago I was thinking of like reworking and editing part of like we keep on reworking
02:06on on the department on the people department so I was thinking of uh changing my title to chief
02:11happiness officer yes of course no no that is a thing as well right yeah because right now I think your
02:17biggest resource are the human minds as well with AI coming in etc how do we keep them happy mental
02:23health is a huge issue do you look into that as well of course mental health is big and part of the
02:29I mean in in at our work we do a lot of initiatives so a big part of the initiative in at work is mental
02:36health and we have actually we just signed up about a couple of years ago with the firm the main idea of
02:45the firm is mental health that you can give them call at any point of time 24 hours they're open
02:50uh different uh you know professors at different times of stages depends on what you want for example
02:56if you want to quit smoking for example you can give them a call and tell them what's your case
03:00uh how long you've been smoking what do you want to do and they can guide you and tell you what to do
03:05actually you're right if you've lost a very dear friend or or a soulmate you can give them a call and tell
03:11them your situation and they can tell you what you can do so it's such a nice service and that that
03:17has been used quite frequently not just for the person who's working in the firm but also his family
03:22member so the wife and the kids as well uh marim i have to ask you you are also very you bat for women
03:28in construction industry because my husband is a civil engineer again uh but i doubt if i have met many of
03:36his female colleagues maybe couple uh yes but i i see him talking mostly to men yeah that's quite
03:42interesting are there less women well first of all good for you somebody's earning yeah thank god
03:49yeah no but on a serious note worldwide not just here in dubai worldwide construction industry is a
03:55main dominated industry that's a fact but what i did is like joining the construction a couple years ago
04:02i i i i tried my best to uh for posts that can have male and female i try to give an advantage for
04:09male for the female uh applicants rather than for diversity and diversity and gender exactly so for
04:16example like in human resources for example it can be a male or female regardless you choose female so i
04:22i would rather choose a female if there's applicant that's suitable if they're both on par and she's a
04:26female i would take her and clearly i would mention because you're a female right uh marine you have been
04:31born into a lap of luxury i'm assuming by the time you came into the world by the time yes your your
04:36dad was well off etc what's your relationship with money when you're born into money um i mean i mean
04:44my it's all about your parents okay so and it's all about your upbringing uh with my parents and the
04:51the way they they brought me up actually is that um money was a luxury and we use money just for
04:57for things that we need uh okay not we want and uh it was open i mean my parents give me an open hand
05:04anytime i needed money for anything i could just open the drawer and take the money so they were not
05:08that like tough or strict on money and so we never had this attachment so strongly with money that's so
05:14interesting they just let you be and then you had a not yeah that that's interesting that you say they
05:20gave you a free reign yeah yet you did not exactly did you go through a phase where you blew up money
05:25your dad's never you never never i never misused it i was never taken money was not taken away from me
05:31and money was not like uh uh something like a difficult thing to get it was just there okay literally when
05:37i was in university for example in university there was a drawer i know the drawer has much money and
05:43whenever we need something or there's a electricity bill or something or whatever or you need to pay
05:48something you just take it out and you pay what about with your own kids do you have that kind of
05:52relationship what do you tell them because things are different now their access to social media is
05:56different what they could do with money is different things are very different now and since my kids
06:01were born they had like luxury and wealth and everything so i with my kids i tried to make them feel
06:08the value of money strongly like try to instill it in them because i don't want them to believe that
06:13money is something that can come easily because it's not true but if they were born these
06:18find money all over and like wealth let's say no they would find they will think that money a
06:23wealth it comes just as a given and i want to tell them no it's not and you can easily lose it
06:29so i want them to be as careful as possible right indians love a good home for us that is like a
06:35one thing they tell get married buy a home it's almost like a bucket list are egyptians similar in
06:40culture very similar the home is your very similar the home is you and the home is representing you and
06:47you as a character as nature so it's a very similar culture by the way really yeah okay
06:51you have to tell me about your home how is it shaping up is good i mean i'm getting so excited
06:55you know i mean i'm i'm my mind is past the construction phase and now i'm in the interior
07:01designing and decorating it all in my mind you know it's already tools in the furniture and i'm just
07:06you know a couple of steps ahead okay so hopefully one year from now to be up and running excellent and i
07:12hope uh the money keeps coming since your relationship with money is quite democratic
07:16i think right i mean it comes it goes it comes it goes it's the most important thing is it shouldn't
07:22be your goal it shouldn't be your goal it's not like money is your goal your goal should be like you
07:27know to work and that comes and that comes so also many people would argue that it comes from a position
07:34of privilege those who did not have money perhaps would look at it differently right i don't think so okay
07:40i don't that i wouldn't agree on that because i mean anyone who works hard will will attain money
07:45i would find it very difficult for a person like uh i'll give you just an example my um the gentleman
07:51who is to drive for me for years for like 17 years he was my personal driver he uh brought up his
07:57daughter he used to send money for his daughter and she graduated from dentistry yeah and then she went
08:02to australia now she's one of the best dentists in australia and her dad is not even educated oh and of
08:08course so she's she's in great wealth now so right right it's also about like you what do you do with
08:13the kind of money you make he educated his daughter yeah so what do you do with the money as well education
08:18is core of course so exactly what you do with the money so if you don't have a proper education then
08:23it's going to be maybe more challenging but then with the money if you put proper instead proper
08:28education and with that education have a good degree or whatever bachelor's degree and with that work
08:33something hard but working hard is key right and being passionate in what you do right of course
08:40on that note i really hope mariam you're always passionate with homes and with your job and uh
08:45spreading a smile on your employees face as well thank you it's a great job to have it is
08:49chief happiness officer to be it's not to be not easy though not easy not easy but it's a great thing i
08:55mean it's a resource that you're really looking into human resource it is which is pretty cool thank you so much
