The Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, is a crucial reform that brings transparency, accountability, and inclusivity to the management of Waqf assets in India. This reform aims to ensure that Waqf land and resources are used for the public good, preventing misuse and corruption while empowering marginalized communities, particularly Pasmanda Muslims. The Bill’s provisions include digitizing Waqf assets, providing public access, and including non-Muslim members in Waqf Boards to ensure broader representation. Despite protests and misinformation, the government’s goal is clear: to create a more efficient, transparent, and inclusive system that benefits all of India.

00:22The bill is passed
00:24Hello and welcome. My name is Divya Sharma. Today we turn our focus to a subject that has sparked fierce protests, loud headlines and unfortunately a lot of misinformation.
00:41Mass protests have erupted in several India Alliance rule states, fuelled by a well-crafted narrative that claims the VAKF Amendment Bill 2025 is anti-minority.
00:54Protests against the VAKF Amendment Bill have emerged in opposition rule states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
01:03These demonstrations appear to be politically motivated.
01:08Because what's being labelled as controversial may just be one of the most progressive and necessary reforms India has seen in decades.
01:16And many are seeing it that way even in India Alliance ruled states.
01:21Let's separate fact from fiction.
01:24What is VAKF?
01:26Let's begin with the basics.
01:27VAKF refers to property, land, buildings, assets donated by individuals from Muslim community for religious or charitable purposes.
01:37Now in principle it's meant for public good.
01:40But in practice.
01:42For years VAKF boards operated like parallel empires, answerable to no one, free to declare any land as VAKF land, even government or private land and often without due process.
01:54Section 40 of the old act gave them unchecked powers.
01:59That's now gone. The repeal of Section 40 is not about interference.
02:03It's about ending land grabs in the name of faith.
02:06No more backdoor declarations.
02:08No more harassment of private landowners.
02:11No more political appeasement in the cloak of religion.
02:14The VAKF Amendment Bill 2025 brings what was long overdue.
02:22Transparency, digitization and public scrutiny.
02:25For the first time the assets of VAKF board will be audited, digitized and made accessible.
02:32The reform is designed to benefit the very people it claims to serve.
02:35Especially Pasmanda Muslims who have historically been left out while elites and clerics run the show.
02:43VAKF
02:54The bill has passed from now, and passed from now, VAKF общем and local authorities.
03:00The bill also allows the inclusion of non-Muslim members in Waqf boards not to dominate but
03:17to democratize, to ensure broader representation, including voices from Bohras, Aga Khanis and
03:23Muslim women, groups who were never part of the old setup.
03:30The bill also is a very wide range of the civil suit, if there is an appeal of the provision
03:472013 by the city of RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT, RIT,
03:56Now here is a real twist in the tale, despite the noise on the street, several opposition
04:21rule states have quietly supported the spirit of amendments.
04:26Some regional parties that publicly criticise the BJP have admitted off record that the
04:30previous system was broken, riddled with corruption, land disputes and misuse of Waqf assets.
04:39Because let's face it, land is power and the Waqf monopoly over land without checks was
04:44unsustainable.
04:49The new bill also protects tribal land from being declared Waqf, ensuring that the rights
04:54of vulnerable communities are not bulldozed under religious claims and it gives the government
05:01the power to reclaim state owned lands wrongly claimed as Waqf.
05:05It's a step to protect not just legal titles but also India's integrity.
05:11Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of Hisar airport accused the Congress of altering
05:18Waqf Act for political gain and appeasement of Muslim fundamentalists.
05:23He questioned the party's commitment to minority welfare.
05:27Modi said the amended Waqf law ensures justice for Dalits, tribals and poor Muslims.
05:36And let's not forget, this isn't unprecedented.
05:41Countries like Turkey and Qatar have modernised their Waqf systems, digitised their records and
05:47brought in broader governance models.
05:50What India is doing now is simply aligning with global best practices without compromising
05:56on its secular values.
05:58So the next time you see a protest, ask what are they really opposing?
06:03Transparency, inclusivity or accountability?
06:07Because a Waqf amendment bill does not target any community, it targets a system of exploitation.
06:14It uplifts the spirit of Sapka Saad, Sapka Vikas by protecting public land, empowering marginalised
06:22voices and ensuring that endowments serve the people, not power centres.
06:28And in that, it doesn't divide Bharat, it defends it.
06:32This is more than a reform, it is a rekhnik.
