South Korea’s former President Yoon Suk Yeol has taken to the stand on the first day of his criminal case over charges that he led an insurrection.
He denied paralyzing the government and said martial law was needed to alert the people to how the majority opposition party was stonewalling the government by impeaching more than 20 officials, which he saw as dangerous.
If Yoon is found guilty, he could face life imprisonment.
